Big cox or little cox would be my two front runners. Would to see them both come back.

If I was going to get a cox, I would want the big one. No homo! Little cox is part of the reason big cox is not at Fairview from what I've heard.
You haven't heard very well. The little cox I'm referring to was the oc at Camden. Scoring points was never an issue. The only issues they had at Camden was the mommas and daddy running the school and no admin with a spine. That's why they can't keep coaches over there
What happened to Bearden's coach?
Rumored to be taking job at CHG

Your right. Everyone knows the problem at Camden is the admin. Just saying that Mike letting his kids run the program was a set back for him.
Why would he want to go back to Bearden? They are the ones that ran him off and he had nothing but success.
Any rumors on who the new AD will be? I figure they will name that first then hire a head fb unless it's going to be the same person
Will AD not be tied in with head fb?
I've heard a rumor of them trying to talk the basketball coach into it but I didn't get that from a very reliable source. If they did convince him I could def see a return of mike cox at Bearden.

Mike Cox return as an assistant or the head coach? I've heard possibly the basketball coach moving over to football or doing both.
I've heard the basketball coach becomes the ad and just assists with football like he has been doing and mike cox comes in to be the head man
Oh ok. I would like to see Mike Cox back on the sidelines at Bearden but I have a hard time believing he would come back. I heard him and the Super didn't get along.

I wonder if any of the Bears will try to come with their coach and enroll at CHG. The two schools are only about 10 miles apart. Both schools run a bus at least to Eagle Mills, which is just about halfway.
Would have to move into the district, get adopted or married
That will make that game more interesting in the future for sure.

Oh yes most definitely this year! CHG has held the Bill Manning Trophy for the last three years now and I'm sure the 2018 game will be filled with a lot of emotion from both schools, and naturally so.
According to Facebook all the people with European descent want mike cox. Still the only name I'm seeing and hearing. That would also add to the fire having cox go up against his former assistant and the guy his passed the reigns to when he departed for hamburg

I talked to a another guy from Bearden the other day.
He said Bearden will always have dudes.
No. They don't have those dudes anymore. They might have had the least talented line that I saw in that conference in this past year. Very very bad.
Still have some dudes. They don't have a dewayne watts or a keyon Lowe or a Ricky brown but they still have some guys that can go
dudes
I would think Cox Sr. would be about over the coaching bug after the Hamburg and Fairview fiascos. Bearden is still talented but not like his good years.... plus he's always chased talent and that wouldn't be the case here. But the entire district will be a little down so maybe he comes back.........BUT
.......Does Bearden really want him back
Depends on who you ask in Bearden. Best thing that ever happened to Bearden was leveling the playing field and getting those bigger schools into 3a. Wasn't it after the 05 season? There has and more than likely always will be talent in Bearden. The key is to get all the non studs to go all out and that's what made cox so successful imo

Do u think with what Hampton has coming back and Fordyce dropping down along with the return of JC the district will be down?
I've heard jc lost a lot from last year. I think Fordyce ends up winning the district this year. Jc Bearden for the 2 and 3 spots then Pc and Hampton for the 4 and 5
Hampton had only 2 Sr starters on last years team . Jc lost about 14 kids and return about 9 kids that saw Playing time in the 2 playoff games I attended
I wasn't impressed with Hampton last year. They were good team without a doubt. And honestly I had forgotten about their junior high until just now. Had some nice players in it so yea I change my earlier statement and say they can challenge Fordyce. Depends on the young players though
I think it's fordyce Jc Hampton and Bearden Pc fighting for last 2 playoff spots .
They took us to the wood shed on the line of scrimmage. Physically whipped us.
Well I was at that game and if Pc doesn't give up the 3rd and 4th and longs that they did in that game they have a legit shot to win the ball game. Defense held their own and couldn't finish on a couple of the touchdown drives that they had. Now who knows what would have happened if the game was even remotely close to officiated. Worst I've ever seen for both sides
Bearden will always have some Dudes. Haha. Hate to hear they're struggling as a district with numbers.
I think we lost 3 to 4 kids that didn't play in Woodlawn game. It was a very physical game
Because they were beat up or because it was Woodlawn?
A couple couldn't play but the others played a little bc it was Woodlawn .
Heard this morning from a guy named Tony that the baseball coach had put in for the job. Played for parker and Russell. Looks like a return to the power I or the wishbone for bearden

I think the baseball coach is also the head junior high coach right?
That he is.
Sounds like Bearden faithful want something new
JC has a lot back but loses a ton of their offensive production. Fordyce will be good but they are still Fordyce and consistently do less with more athletes than most schools in the area. Hampton does return a lot.... but I know that at least two returning starters won't play for them next season. That team is talented but lacked a team leader to get them over the hump in several games last year. Bearden and PC will both be young. Strong Hermitage and Woodlawn will all struggle to field a team.
All that said, Bearden should still contend for the 3 seed with PC, Fordyce, and Hampton.
JC in a down year is still more talented than everyone else.
I believe that the School wants coach hammonds as AD. I heard that from school board member. Mike Cox is very doubtful to come back, he is enjoying his time off haha. I would plan on Tyler Cox being a front runner. Whoever it is will be adopting a young messy team.
As for any Bearden boys going to HG I very highly doubt it. Most boys seem pretty happy he is leaving.
The ones that are happy have probably been listening to village idiots. Horstkamp is a very good coach in my opinion and I think it's going to be hard to get someone in there on his level. Young cox don't want it according to my people in Monticello. So I don't expect him to even apply. I know after cox's First year of retirement he still had that itch. I haven't seen him in about 8 months so the itch may have gone away since then. He would still be my front runner as long as he still has that itch.

I don't know them personally. I know that Coach Horstkamp has always been regarded as a classy guy and one of the assistant coaches took time to speak to my son after CHG beat Bearden last year and wished him and the Hornets well for the remainder of the season. Classy move there, too, unlike some coaches from other schools we've faced before who don't know how to treat kids from the opposing team.

No, it has to be posted regardless. Most schools that will post to the school website and local paper if they want to limit candidates applying for the position. A lot of schools take in-house applicants first, then will open it up for others.

That's what we always thought, but............
Doesn't have to be posted if they are re assigning som one to that job. They would just have to list the vacancy for the persons job that took the other job. If they want to test the waters from outside they have to post it.
I heard from a reliable source that Hammonds not only is secure in his job but got a contract extension for 3 years. 1 year for every time his buddy at PC beat him.
I know most of you referring to hammonds are just up to some tom foolery but you have to admit as talented as bearden has been the last couple of years they have had way more talent in the past and done a lot less with it. They were right where they belonged last year in a district final, regional final, and the state tournament. They just simply ran up on teams that had their number.

I know Lenny. I had a nice visit with him when the Hornets went to BoomBoom country in Hampton. He started out all chipper and upbeat telling me how Bearden was gonna pass all over us and telling me we didn't stand a chance against the Bears on Homecoming night...........then by the 3rd quarter and we had Hampton down 56-14, he saw the writin' on the wall and changed his mind. I know we barely won last year had quite a few out in that game. As far as owning Bearden yes in baseball and the last four in softball. We will get y'all back where you belong this year in football and basketball. And by the way southarks he is a lineman on defense.
So what will Bearden install during spring ball since they are dragging their feet on a hire?
Heard they weren't even starting interviews until the Supt is back from Deployment
Yep believe that to be the case. Spring ball will be a struggle. Lenny wants to run Gathen's old offense. Hammonds wants to run the single wing, Thomas wants to run the spread, bud wants to run the wishbone.

That moment when truth hits the pages of Fearless Friday. It's beautiful.
A loss by 2 in the last second of the district finals and a loss by 6 in the regional finals is considered "owned"? Okay....
Did ya'll beat PC in basketball?............ yeah... didn't think so..... how many chances did you have?

Nothing wrong with losing to a better team. But they didn't "own" Bearden.
PC vs Bearden (Boys)
Football L 0-1
Basketball WWWW 4-1
Baseball WW 6-1
Track WWW 9-1
.... you do the math. Down year for Bearden and up year for PC. Those numbers will balance out I'm sure... but that speaks for itself.
Heard today that Thomas at Bearden has taken his name out of the hat for head man at Bearden and will be following Horstkamp to the grove. Any truth?

I believe that's because mike cox will be returning to Bearden.
Thomas was the OC last year. I believe cox will be the man again also

I'm betting on Cox or Anthony from strong. If Thomas is calling plays at HG next year that's bad news for them.
Quote from: old.dole on May 07, 2018, 11:26:34 am
Yep believe that to be the case. Spring ball will be a struggle. Lenny wants to run Gathen's old offense. Hammonds wants to run the single wing, Thomas wants to run the spread, bud wants to run the wishbone.
And the p.c. fans want to run their mouths.
Who don't want to on here?

I talked to a guy from PC, coincidentally, at GNC yesterday.
Said they're going to be down next year but be good the year after.
hard not to be down when you lose 13 seniors. They will be down but have a playmaker at QB and are getting quite a few kids back out that had left the program previously.
I don't think they'll be as bad as some think but they won't be the same team they were a year ago.
Probably JC, Fordyce, Hampton, Bearden, and PC in that order this season. I could see Bearden, Fordyce, and Hampton flipping spots a little depending on how the season goes but honestly it will be hard for Chapel to knock off anyone in that top 4.

It's all good there ol Dole just couldn't resist it with all the talk about running stuff...
I'm not a pc fan until this year and still dont really consider myself a fan. Kind of a house divided thing when they play my ouachita county schools
Hear Bearden has a top 3. Anyone know the names?
COX, COX, AND COX.
Hope that is true. We would take all three.
I saw the super at the sports banquet last night so maybe it's time to get down to business...
Ole boy up at the softball fields in Fordyce told me they were having a special board meeting either this Thursday or next to make a decision
Hearing more and more it will be Anthony from Strong.
Sounds like may be room for more than one

He's a Bearden alum and would probably do well there with enough players to form a team + enough to practice against.
We got enough to scrimmage there Hornet . Might not have too many on the sidelines though. I think they said 27 out right now.
I'm hearing cox as head man and also try to hire Anthony for the spot vacated by Thomas
Hope your right.

I figured the Bears would have good numbers. It was Anthony's teams at Strong that I was alluding to about barely having enough to form a team of starters plus having enough backups to practice against.
I haven't heard any numbers on how many the Hornets have right now. I'm gonna say around 40 or so. Our black & gold game is Thursday, May 24 for anyone who might want to come check us out.
Odds are, you'll run the same four plays that Bearden has run since 2011.

Bearden has threw the ball much more with Thomas as the OC. However the only passing play he seems to know is 4 vertical routes

If you've got speedy receivers who can catch the ball and a QB like Tyler Berry.........throw it deep and let your guys run under it. That's what they did to us until we figured out that Bearden's O-line couldn't protect him under a full blitz. They're gonna miss Berry next year, guaranteed!

That was the Bearden bear offense the last couple years. 4 vertical down the field. Berry could either chunk it 40 yards or take off running. That was it.
Amen! I was hoping they went to HG as a unit.
So is Bearden making a hire tonight?

They opened up the bottom dollar mercantile and almost put every business in town down. Even the corner had to change ownership

Any team would miss a Berry!
Word will pick right up where Berry finished, and with his receivers, Opponents will not be so quick to blitz. Unbeknownst to most, Line has some help coming from an atypical place!
Heard there was a move in or 2
The players are there Bart need the right leader at head coach . Hammonds and Chambliss have been doing a good job . I think we may surprise some people. Just wish they would go ahead and hire now
Bearden will never have a shortage of skill. The key is having skill with heart and then having something in the trenches to go with it.
Bearden should have made a hire three weeks ago. I do not have ANY faith in the current administration in making a decent decision. All that will matter is if they can hire a coach that will be overworked in the classroom, work cheap, and do all maintenance on their on. Bearden is NOT a good job. I know enough to know that is factual.
Depends on if the pros of having those athletes outweigh the cons you mentioned. I agree though a hire should have already been made. Bears are starting out behind this year imo

Word on the street is there's over 30 applicants for the position. Just about every coach in recent memory that went through there, left with a + net job gain. I think the 30 that have applied would disagree with you.

Word out of Bearden was that interviews have started. Anyone heard anything
Thought I saw Mr. Coach Klein coming out of the superintendent's office today. Look out he had the green playbook back.
I heard the assistant from Wynne thinks he has it on lock.
I talked to bill farmer up at the post office the other day and he said all roads lead to cox

Horstkamp's Hornets looked pretty good last night. Saw some nice scoring plays, nice catches being made, and some pretty good defense. CHG just graduated a ton, but looked to me like they've got able bodies to fill in most of the gaps. They'll be scrappy.
Its a ton of stories as to whom will end up with this job and I'm hearing Greg Anthony from Strong is front runner..is it Cox, Anthony, or the guy from Wynne as I read earlier

Where is Cox from?
As far as I know. Camden assistant, Bearden head coach where he had a record of like 60 something and 6 or 8, then head coach at Hamburg and Camden, now retired, soon to be the head man at the Beartown.
born and raised in the streets of Queen City. Spent most of his youth wrestling bears and killing it on the kareoke machine. Laid the foundation of the buck bus in Camden before heading to Bearden where he put together one heck of a resume dominating a majority of 2a. Then headed to hamburg back to Camden and retired. The last 2 years were spent ripping lips and chasing whitetail. He will soon step foot back at Rogers field where he will make a speech to the masses and utter 2 words before walking away from the podium "I'm back!"

So let me get this straight.... Cox leaves Bearden to chase talent at bigger schools... fails fairly miserably given the talent he had... retires... and the Bearden faithful are perfectly ok with him coming back. Wow... ya'll started on that statue yet? old Dole should start a petition to be president of the Mike Cox fan club.

Louisville took bobby Petrino back after the Aubbie drama, the Atlanta drama, AND the Arkansas drama.

Coach Outlaw from Wynn got the head coach job.
Where is he originally from?
Think he graduated from Monticello H.S. then walked on at Arkansas State.
He may stick around then being from south Arkansas originally
