Who do you guys think is the best running back in 3a up to this point?

RabidWolf

He might not get much recognition, but #7 from ECS is a load to handle!

benchwarmer99

Gates from fordyce is the best I've seen in 3a.

RowdyReputation40

7 from ECS 22 from Prescott and *insert smackover running back here*and fordyces running back I forget what #

SR30

Jordan Johnson from Glen Rose has already rolled up 1049yds, is averaging 209yds a game and 9.1yds per carry. He rushed for 383yds friday night alone. Pretty solid so far I think.

MICHAELSPAPPY

Best power back is from Lamar.

Jimbo Morphis

change it up. best back not from your school?

BAMA#16

Gates, Johnson, and Davenport. If we had a draft in high school football, I would be taking one of those three.

adaptedtigerfan

Haha. I see what u did there, Oldman.

redandgray

Cecil Langston from Rivercrest is a good one!  In 4 games, he has 726yds 10TDs 9.9 yds/carry.

Randy

Longfellow

Morgan Yates has 805 yards and 11 tds. He's kinda in the same boat as davenport. He plays quarterback but is the teams primary rushing option.

KOJACK

Kelvin Robinson from EC$ is a hand full.

Is this kid as good as Vinson or Kehner?

Johnson is not near as fast as Vinson or Kehner but is powerful and runs hard. Very seldom brought down one on one

AlumniLights

Vinson had it all. Stud back that carried GR through the playoffs and in the title game. Kehner was not as aggressive or powerful but so dang shifty, quick, and had great break away speed.

RabidWolf

Question regarding Johnson. How many carries? I know last year he played Prescott and had a ton of yards. On almost 50 carries?

?different Johnson? From BHG/HHG.
I doubt GR got a ton of yards against anyone last year, much less Prescott. GOML or whatever

SR30

Jon Johnson was the stud from HG last year that racked up yds..Jordan Johnson is making himself known for GR this year.

Malvern 14 carries 89yds 2TD
Bauxite 19 carries 127yds 2TD
Gurdon 27 carries 220yds 4TD
Harmony grove 23 carries 229yds 1TD
Jessieville 32 carries 384yds 4TD

Look for another big game against Bismarck friday night. True test in a few weeks at Prescott but I have a feeling he will put up good numbers there as well..

mack truck

I would have to say Gates. He is fast and very powerful. 972 all purpose yards already with 752 of them being rushing yards. Not to mention, he is the fieldgoal kicker, on kickoff return, Plays at the safety and linebacker postion.Doesnt come off the field. Oh, and I think he is the kickoff guy also. The kid is non stop. Atotal beast in my opinion.

Is it #3 Gates 0r #2 Thomas?

mtindian42

Langston from the crest

LilBeastBIL

I honestly think that 2 or 3 of the Smackover backs could be listed here if on different teams. Purifoy would be a 1500 yard guy on any other team, so could Dewayne Jones or Michael Edwards. Their numbers would reflect it also if they all didnt play on the same team. The same could be said for Rucks

I agree with this statement.  They are all four really good backs. Not many teams have 3-4 running backs as talented as this group is. Most teams have one or two good backs that get the ball handed off to them almost every play.

More like 12-15 runner backs from Smack should be on the list

Paperman

Cecil Langston is the truth. He may not be the biggest or the fastest, but he has great vision and power. He make the Rivercrest o-go!

strongandsteady

Jordan Johnson is a stud from what I've heard

Harmony Grove-Haskell Jon Johnson should be mentioned in the conversation. Despite seeing 9-10 in the box and being keyed on every week. Still manages 690 yards rushing 9.0 YPC and 14 touchdowns and 150 yards receiving 25.0 YPC and 1 touchdown. It may seem like his production has dropped off from last year but if you compare it he is still getting it done.

2014: (5 games)
Rushing 846 YDS 10 TDS
Receiving 49 YDS 1 TD
TOTAL 895 YDS 11 TDS

2015: (5 games)
Rushing 690 YDS 14 TDS
Receiving 150 YDS 1 TD
TOTAL 840 YDS 15 TDS

SR30

Jon should definitely be in the conversation

Seriously?? Lost all credibility after that comment. Little Johnson, 9 yards vs GR?? 9 yds? And you mention him as best in AAA? Must be an uncle. Seriously, 9 yards, 27 feet, 324 inches?? In 1 game?

redandgray

Langston at Rivercrest had 12 carries for 260yds and 3TDs tonight.

You guys are trash man. Y'all calling out kids. Come on up to gr next week and see how it goes. Y'all ask for mayo and you got him. Just like a cockroach when you turn on the lights.

Cecil Langston of Rivercrest has 600 yards and 6 Tds in the last two games pretty strong!

I will be a homer after trying to resist all season, sorry oldman. I can't imagine there is a better RB in 3A than Kelvin Robinson.

Paperman

Only seen him play basketball, but he has great numbers!

SR30

Jordan Johnson only played until half time last night due to a blow out.. add 110yds on 11 carries and 3 tds...another impressive showing

Sick Dog

They are all good but the best is the one with the best blocking and depends on who they play. The best I have seen would probably be Gates or kid from BHG because their O Line isn't outstanding. I haven't seen ECS or any other O Lines so I cant speak for them

The kid is really good!  He had somewhere around 250 on GR last year and over 1,900 yards for the year despite missing almost 2 complete games.   Already has one D-1 offer plus others from D-2 but I am sure they have no idea what they are doing recruiting him.  The GR game was a team thing and we absolutely got whipped on the line.  I don't think any back mentioned here would have gotten more against GR that night w/ that line.

SR30

Jon is a great back and will play at the next level for sure.

Robinson is a beast ,very good speed for his 6'2 frame.

WildcatGrandpa13

Some of the rushes Robinson has are just unbelievable. Breaking 6, 7, 8 tackles is not anything out of the ordinary for him. And to be honest, he doesn't have much help with the O Line. I haven't seen many of the candidates many are talking about play, so I can't make a call, but Robinson has to be up there.

Gulledge from Bald Knob and #3 for Barton are the 2 best running backs I have seen this year. I'm from Atkins
