The 2015 High School football season is here.  All the teams are ready to fight for the Conference Championship and the State Title.  There has been some changes in the Conference as far as Coaches, Foreman and Lafayette County has new men leading their campaign this year.
The Coaches has picked the Pre-Season favorites: 1. Gurdon 2. Mt. Ida 3. Lafayette County 4. Dierks 5. Murfreeboro 6. Mineral Springs 7. Foreman 8. Spring Hill.  What an exciting time of the year.  Cool weather coming and the sounds of fan cheering, cheerleaders yelling, bands playing and whistles blowing.  If a true red blooded American can't get excitied about this time of year, then move from this Great Country.  So on to this week picks.

Monday Aug. 31
Hot Springs Lakeside JV at Dierks
HS Lakeside JV is kind enough to come to "the Hollar" to take a beat down.  Enough about them.  Dierks went 6-5 (3-4) last year and lost to Rison 44-6 in the 1st Round of the Play-offs.  They did not play last year.  The Outlaws are coming back stronger this year to prove a point.  Coming back this year is Sr. RB Trendin McKinney, Sr QB Tyler Kesterson and a very big offensive line.  McKinney is one of the premier backs in the league, and when he gets moving, so does the Outlaws.  OMR is going with the Outlaws 42-7.

Monday Aug 31
Bearden vs Lafayette County at UAPB
Bearden went 8-3 and lost to Junction City 42-0 in the 2nd Round last year.  Lafayette County went 7-4 (5-2) and lost to Magnet Cove 28-24 in the 1st Round last year. They did not play last year.  This is a Kick-Off Classic being held at Pine Bluff.  This will be a big order for the Cougars.  Bearden is one of the toughest teams to play from the 8-2A.  So anytime you play them, you better be ready.  The Cougars will have one of the best backs in the Conference playing for them,(Tre Burks 1,976 and 26 TDs).  They won almost as many games last year as they have the previous 4 seasons (8).  If they can stay healthy and can learn from the new coach, then look out 7-2A.  OMR is going with Bearden 35-21.

Friday Sept. 4
Hermitage at Lafayette County
Hermitage went 3-6 last year, while LC went 7-4 (5-2).  LC lost in the 1st Round to Magnet Cove 28-24.  LC won last year 15-12.  That's right, the Cougars are playing 2 games in 1 week.  They open the season Monday against Bearden and turn around to play the Hermits on Friday.  The Hermits has a very good D1 prospect with Monta' Thomas.  Arkansas, Louisiana Tech, and Mississippi State has evaluated him.  Can he get some help from the rest of the Hermits, or will he have to carry the load by his lonesome.  Counter Tre Burks for the Cougars.  Will the Cougars be able to play 2 games in a week?  Will they be healthy enough, prepare enough, and be rested enough to pull off 2 game?  My guess is yes.  OMR is going with the Cougars 28-14.

Strong at Murfreesboro
The Bulldogs went 4-6 last year, while the Rattlers went 7-4 (4-3) and lost in the 1st Round to Cross County 32-18 last year.  Murfreesboro won last year 36-14.  The Bulldogs bring back RB Marvalus Howard (720 yards), but the numbers game may hurt them.  They had 16 players last year, 4 were seniors.  This season may be like last.  The Rattlers are getting better every year.  Going into this season, they'll have to replace their QB, but things are going to be just fine.  Look for the Rattlers to make a lot of noise this year.  OMR is picking Murfreesboro 35-6.

Magazine at Mt. Ida
Magazine went 3-7 last year, while the Lions went 8-3 (6-1), and lost to Brinkley 37-16 in the 1st Round.  Mt. Ida won last year 42-0.  The Rattlers haven't done a lot since winning the State Championship in 2010.  Rebuilding a team in a small town is hard to do.  This year looks to be a rough one also.  The Lions looks to take down the Go-Devils for the Conference Championship.  They have Sr QB T.J.Wilson, Sr. RB Austin Hickman, and Sr RB Cody Robertson.  Their split back veer is a hard offense to stop when these 3 are on fire.  Having the experence on the field will help the Lions to win.  OMR is going with the Lions 35-7.

Bismarck at Spring Hill
The Lions went 4-7 last year and lost to Smackover 52-19 in the 1st Round of the 3A play-offs, while SH went 0-9-1.  The Lions won last year 24-8.  Bismarck got back to the play-offs last year after not making it for 3 years.  They lost their Head Coach to Benton, but hired from within.  This will be a big help since the kids already knows what kind of Coach he is.  The Bears are coming off the worst record in their schools history.  Can they get back to their teams of 09, 10, 2011?  They have a good RB in Jacob Crow, but he'll have to stay healthy to help them out.  All it takes is a couple of injuries, or mistakes and the Bears are winning again.  OMR is going with Bismarck 21-14.

Fouke at Mineral Springs
Fouke went 7-5 and lost to Charleston 41-14 in the 2nd Round of the 3A play-offs, while the Hornets went 2-7 (2-5).  Fouke won last year 44-27.  The Panthers beat up on the Pre-Season Conference favorites Gurdon last week in their scrimmage 42-14.  If they can do that to a good team like Gurdon, then look out 6-3A.  Coach Barker has came in and went 14-9 with this team.  This year will probably be another 7 win season.  The Hornets are still building under 3rd year Coach Jason Burns.  He'll have some experence coming back at QB and RB.  Will that help the Hornets get back to the Play-offs?  For MS to improve this year, they have to be patience.  OMR is going with Fouke 42-12.

Genoa Central at Foreman
The Dragons went 2-7-1 while the Gators went 3-7 (1-6).  The Gators won last year 33-32.  GC is in their 6th year of varsity competition, having to play against the tough 6-3A.  If they could play in the 7-2A they might have a chance to make the play-offs.  They have some experence coming back this fall, and could win a few more games.  The Gators brings in a new Coach this year.  They still have Jr QB Tucker Hall and RB/WR Kolton Moore.  With these two players and an excited coach, the Gators are looking to get back in the Play-offs.  OMR is going with Foreman 28-20.

The 7-2A Game of the Week
Gurdon at Prescott
The Go-Devils went 9-3 (7-0) and lost to McCrory 24-20 in the 3rd Round last year.  Prescott went 11-1 and lost to Booneville 42-30 in the 2nd Round of the 3A play-offs.  Prescott won 42-20 last year.  Well this is the last year for the Go-Devils to play in the 7-2A.  So they are hoping to go out with a bang.  Coming back for Coach Kyle Jackson is All-Everything Jackie Harville (1,347 yards and 22 TDs).  They'll have to continue doing it the Coach Jackson way to be sucessful.  Gurdon has speed to burn, but will have a defense that likes to hit and take the ball away.  I don't know what happen last week in their scrimmage against Fouke, but just like last year, they play 2 very good 3A teams to start the season. (Prescott and Smackover)  This will get them ready to play the Conference season.  The Curley Wolves are coming into this season Ranked #3 in 3A.  They are expected to win the 5-3A with little trouble.  Sr QB Trevor Pipkin (193-288 for 3,215 yards and 44 TDs) will lead this team.  Coach Tommy Poole has great help on his coaching staff to put a game plan together to get the most out of the kids to win.  This game has been a rival game for as long as I can remember.  Once Conference foes, next year will be foes again.  This will be the last year it will be the first game of the year.  It really doesn't matter when it's played, these two teams wants to beat each other.  This game should be a good one to watch, if you don't have anywhere to go Friday night.  OMR is going with Prescott 42-28.

So there it is Sport Fans, let me know what you think.  Good Luck to all the 7-2A teams this year, and as always OMR OUT!!!!
