OBU suspends men's and women's soccer programs



ARKADELPHIA – Ouachita Baptist University has suspended its varsity men's and women's soccer programs, according to David Sharp, Director of Athletics.



"At this time, it is in the best interest of Ouachita to suspend the men's and women's soccer programs," Sharp said. "I know we'll have a number of students who will want to continue to play soccer. We'll look into club competition for the immediate future.



"Students who are on athletic aid for soccer will receive the aid for the number of years of eligibility they have remaining."



Ouachita began its varsity women's soccer program in 1999 and added men's soccer the following year. Eight of the 15 universities in the Gulf South Conference compete in either men's or women's soccer.
