As a former Boll Weevil player, I am so happy for the kids at UAM. They just knocked off #1 in the nation Delta State on their home floor. I hate Mike Newell but those kids couldn't deserve this more. They play Tuesday against Montevallo for the regional championship. The GSC is guaranteed a spot in the D2 Elite 8, which is the equivalent as the Final Four.

That is a huge win for UAM!!! Congrats on the win!! I hope the we can pull off the same thing against Delta St's girls on Monday night here in Arkadelphia!!

Wow, I might actually get a little school spirit.  lol

The Weevils had a good season, fell last night to Montevallo 89-86. Sweet 16 is not bad, that's further than any UAM team since they became D2. And it's further than any Arkansas GSC school has ever been.

That isn't true.  Henderson State went to the Elite 8 three times (If I'm not mistaken) when Coach Chappell was there.

The news said last night that UAM won 90-81.  Where did you get that they lost?

CamdenFairviewAlumni

OK then, so the actual score was UAM 89 Montevallo 86.  UAM (22-10)  plays Seattle Pacific (25-5) next Wednesday in the Elite 8.

You are right about HSU making it to the Sweet 16, I know once maybe twice, but they never qualified for the Elite 8. No Arkansas school has and the only three to do it the last ten years in the GSC are DSU in 1998, West Georgia in 2003, amd Montevallo in 2004 and in 2006

NO!!!, UAM blew a 17 point lead in the 2nd half and lost by 3, 89-86, IN OT. I WAS AT THE GAME.
If you need proof go to uamont.edu OR  the GSC website.

Actually Henderson State girls made it to the final four last year and got beat in the semi-finals and they are in the Elite 8 this year which starts the 22nd in Hot Springs.  If you live in the area, you should come support them.  Very talented group with only 1 senior.

You sure about that?

My bad man, ESPN needs to get their stuff right.

We are talking about boys teams.  My TECH Golden Suns made it to the National Championship game on ESPN2 in 1999.  They have 7 final fours and 2 national championships to their credit.

Remember also that this is since the Arkansas NCAA era.  The Wonderboys made the final four in 1954, 1955 and 1995.

Those men's Final Four teams were in the NAIA. UAM, Tech, SAU, and UCA all joined in 1995-1996.

No, TECH participated in the NAIA in 1995.  Remember that NAIA was better in the 1990's than NCAA Division-II.

And UCA went D2 with Harding (I think) before the other Arkansas schools in 1992.

How good was the GSC West this year. UAM DSU and UCA going D-1 next year. What a great boost for recruiting next year for all of these schools and others in the GSC.

I meant the school year os 95-96. And the NAIA has always been just as good as D2.

Actually, UCA and Henderson went at the same time. Tech, UAM, SAU, Ouachita and Harding went DII at the same time, but the latter two went to the Lone Star for a short period of time before joining the GSC.

Sorry, mistake in typing. UAM and DSU were great along with UCA (D-1 next year).
