DON'T CONFUSE THIS WITH YOUR FAVORITE MOVIES EVER. There's a huge difference.

Post up some of the greatest movies ever made and say why you think so.

No. 1 on the list, without question: "Citizen Kane."

This film was made 65 years ago and holds up as well as if it was made yesterday.

Juice-Man

Awww, you took my answer.  I guess I'll put the other obvious answer then.

To Kill a Mockingbird....... or pretty much any Gregory Peck movie.

Super Scrapper

I think you are both wrong.  I think it has to be "Gone With the Wind".    I'm just like

Clark Gable, I "Don't Give a Damx".   (Had to misspell or get bleeped)  lol   ;D  SS

Citizen Kane is good, but I wouldn't say it was the best.

Lawrence of Arabia is probably the best made movie I've ever seen, but I'd add these two the previous movies:

Bridge on the River Qwai
Schindler's List
Apocalypse Now
Amadeus
The Godfather
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Usual Suspects
Lord of the Rings

heathwaldrop

Which "The Lord of the Rings"? In my opinion they got progressively worse, but I'm a Tolkien purist.

Bogey

In no particular order:

Schindler's List
Saving Pvt. Ryan
The Godfather
Goodfellas
Star Wars

Smokey & the Bandit (Joking)

Ben Hur
ET
The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars
Jaws
A Few Good Men
The Shawshank Redemption
Rear Window
Silence of the Lambs
The Untouchables

I didn't care for "Rear Window," and "ET" is highly-overrated sap.

The original with Jimmy Stewart?  Seriously?  Do you like any of Hitchcock's other stuff?

It's very well done visually, and it has one of the best movie soundtracks ever.  The way the music fits the film (especially in the final scene) is some of Williams' best work.

Yeah, didn't like it. Not a Hitchcock fan, or even a suspense fan for that matter. I've always heard that "North by Northwest" is better, but I've never seen that.

I do like Jimmy Stewart, however.

You mean the score I guess. It's OK, but as scores go, I don't think it's as good as "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" or any of the "Star Wars" films.

I thought Drew Barrymore turned in the best performance of that movie. Other than her, the acting stunk...especially Henry Thomas'. Somebody needed to punch that kid in the mouth. Actually, a friend of mine from college said that another friend claimed to have done that very thing to Thomas at some party in Houston. Funny story.

I mentioned this one earlier, then accidentally deleted my post:

Casablanca - some of the most famous movie quotes ever have come from this movie.

I'm with you nolefan on Casablanca, one of the best. The Caine Mutiny is a good one, Inherit The Wind, Braveheart, Psycho and Ben Hur.

I'm not, and I liked Return of the King the best.

The scope was outstanding.  Sure, they didn't have everything, but they had a great deal of it.

I saw The Caine Mutiny again the other day.

I love the ending with Jose Ferrer.  "Here's to the real author of the Caine mutiny!"

12 Angry Men is also great.

The Untouchables
I can't believe I forgot this one.  The Untouchables was the only Costner movie I liked.

I'm also a big Clint Eastwood fan so Unforgiven is a great one.

Mike, I like that new quote in your sig.  dannyj is a moron.

Definitely Schinler's List, Silence of the Lambs, Chronicles of Narnia was decent in my opnion.

Scope was outstanding, but the three best "scenes" in the entire trilogy (in my opinion) either were left out completely or were altered radically in the theatrical version of "The Return of the King." (The extended edition made some improvements.)

The best western ever made is The Searchers, followed closely by Unforgiven.
The best movie ever goes to The Godfather.

It doesn't have Shannon Whirry. No movie rightfully can be described as having "everything" when there's no Shannon Whirry.
