Is this considered an upset?

WPWells

Longfellow

No. Two Rivers was the better team. Drake Wilks was not as good as advertised. He has an impressive set of moves around the basket, but didn't play defense at all. He also challenged TR's assistant coach to a fight after the game. His family and I engaged in some not so nice words (I did my best to be good), his girlfriend displayed an unkind gesture in my direction, and then a police office escorted one of their fans from the gym

jr17

He umm.? Challenged an assistant coach to a fight?

Longfellow

It was quite humorous. The assistant coach was being slightly rambunctious, and got too excited, but said nothing to the player

BigWolfC/O2017

Seeing BHG hung in there with ECS I though they were really good

WPWells

I recall the way BHG fans acted after Charleston beat them last year so I'm not shocked

Longfellow

I thought they were as well, based on the way everyone talks about them on here. Wilks was said to be such an outstanding player, but all but 6 of his points came in the paint. He does have an excellent set of post moves though.

jr17

Can someone give me Wilks Stat line?

WPWells

jr17

31 pts. 11 Boards, 6 AST 8 stls. Sounds like a heck of a game too me.

urban legend2

He finished with 31 points, 10 rebounds. Very good player, gets emotional at times. But he was the best offensive player on the floor, make no mistake about it. I heard the assistant talk a little at Wilks, that much is true. Whatever he was saying, it got Wilks upset. As far as an upset, not at all. BHG had a pretty good team and played very well last week against Episcopal. But they also lost by 30 plus to Episcopal as well, twice I believe. But it was a very entertaining game tonight.

smallybells

Lol, advance another round or two and meet the buzz saw that is ECS. Save it for next year....maybe.

Longfellow

Urbanlegend2 What exactly did the assistant say to Wilks? If you heard it please explain.

urban legend2

Simple trash talk. At point one, it was a "I told you y'all wouldn't be able to hang with us" and a Gator Bait reference while he guarded Yates in front of him on a few occasions. Unusual for an assistant to act that way but I didn't think it was all that bad. I think the game was emotional for Wilks and he got in his feelings a bit.

urban legend2

But some of the BHG players said the assistant was saying other unfortunate things as well. Not sure on that or if there's any truth to it but it did get heated between a few parents when the gym was clearing after the teams got dressed.

Longfellow

Heated? Lol All we saw was a lady from BHG hollering at TR fans who were not even paying any attention to her. However, I doubt the assistant said much of anything the players are claiming he said. I agree, it was a very emotional game so naturally everything is amplified to those involved.

TeeLee

Did Yates have his usual game?  What was his stats?

Longfellow

All I know is that he had 24 points.

TeeLee

Tks, with the talk if Wilks stats, I assumed Yates didn't have another 53 pt like the other night. good win.

Coaches shouldn't be trash talking kids. If true his head coach should take care of this. Parents should find it unacceptable.

Basketballfan13

Is the asst coach the head girls coach?

Longfellow

Yes he is the girls head coach. He is a good guy, he just gets a little too excited sometimes

Yeah I found that pretty unusual because I've never seen that in high school. One other kid afterwards went to his dad and was saying a few of the things that were allegedly said. He was pretty worked up over it, threatening to go confront the guy but again, he was emotional too, had just played his last game probably. Pretty unfortunate because it was a good game from both teams.

PASS

Longfellow, let me get this straight, you watched Wilks play 1 game. His stat line is 31 points & 10 boards, but according to you he was not as good as advertised. You should be ashamed of yourself for dogging a kid out who just finished playing his last game & laid it all out there on the floor. I'm sure he probably could have handled himself better, but he is still a teenager. Your coach however is a grown man. He is lucky I am not Wilks dad. I would have yanked him off that bench by his neck for taunting a player. Coaches SHOULD know better.
If I were you Longfelow, I would have talked about what a fantastic team BHG has instead of how bad they are. Especially since TR barely beat them.
It's ashame a great game can be ruined by some immature adults. Don't add on to this incident by making degrading remarks about kids on here.
Btw, my kids do not go to BHG and both teams were fantastic. Games like that are what high school basketball is all about. (except without all the extracurricular activity).

Longfellow

Did you explicitly hear Alexander say anything negative to Wilks? I have never heard him berate a player, and if you are such the upstanding citizen, why didn't you say something?

PASS

Longfellow, you are right, I did not hear him say anything. My post should have read IF I had heard him say anything I would have snatched him up. I shouldn't have assumed he did just because people on here say that he did. My apologies, my post WAS misleading.
I still stand by my post. I don't think anyone should attack kids on here. They are going to make mistakes. That is part of growing up.

Speaking of a person being grown and how to act. The woman from Harmony Grove should be embarrassed on her performance after the incident with the coach. I don't know what was supposedly said by the coach, so I find it hard to believe what she was claiming he said! And yes, she tried to have words with me and told me that he called the kid a b!@#h. She proceeded to tell me how we should be ashamed and embarrassed. Lol.... while acting the way she was AND she flipped the bird to the fans and parents of TR! Then their kids and fans had to witness her get scolded by the police officer like she was a child that doesnt listen, or heed warnings. And she was forced to leave the gymnasium! You lady are the one that should be embarrassed! I hope you were the kids mother to go that far to act like that. But anyway hate that it came down to that. I want to say great game to Harmony Grove and I think the kid in question is a very good ball player. And those kids could rain down some 3 pointers! Also great game Gators! Good Luck against Prescott in the 2nd round! Go Gators!

So the fan from BHG acted out in an unacceptable way, got scolded by the police and completely humiliated overall, so it sounds like she suffered some consequences. I imagine she feels pretty bad about it today. But your account supports the idea that the asst coach or girls coach, whichever, also was out of bounds. I think the head coach, AD, and/or TR parents should make sure he suffers some sort of consequences as well. I can forgive an overwrought "momma" a little easier than I can a coach.

I completely agree!! A parents behavior is controlled by the refs. The assistant coach cursing a kid is inexcusable. Couple that with bhg receiving 35 fouls and TR only 9 looks like it was completely one sided. Especially a team as well coached and disciplined as bhg who rarely gets fouls. I understand the parents frustrations. Doesn't matter now because the two best teams ended up in the finals. The refs need to be checked!

I haven't bashed anyone but I have made my humble opinions about charleston and EPC they offset each other. I honestly can't stant the administration og charleston. They are unreasonably pompous !! Would never send a child to that school. Other then that my Cheerios are groovy.

WPWells

You'd get along well with Eagle fan #3. She'd rather send her kids to a concentration camp than Charleston

Here's a stat though:
The past two years Charleston has graduated 130 students. Of those, 10 have scored over a 30 on the ACT. Continue bashing

Charleston is honestly the cream of the crop when it comes to small towns in the River Valley... its pretty obvious the second you drive through a town to tell if a town has pride or it doesn't care. Charleston is one of those picturesque towns that people see as a great quaint town. My better half always says that about my hometown when we go to visit and wants to live there one day but I am too much of a free spirit to go back.

I appreciate you loving your hometown. I was raised in southeast arkansas and we have put dozens of players in the nfl and nba and I too love my town but I wouldn't want to live there now. Just personal preference. I spent a week in charleston last year and the thousand cows that I passed before getting to that town were friendlier thn the school officials or towns people. T least the vows would raise their head and acknowledge that I was there. Again all I can go by is my first and hopefully last experience there. The fans are mean and the coaches ?? Well that's another Storey!! Ha

I am from NWA actually. When I lived in Pensacola while on my travels I always stopped in Lake Village for gas and to eat on my travels back home. I love that town for some reason. Where in SE Arkansas are you from?

Crossers Hamburg area. I still love lake village and Eudora areas.

Hamburg seemed to be our playoff rival senior year... I am from Prairie Grove. We won in football and lost to Hamburg in basketball at state that year. I like it when we partnered with the 8-4A come playoff time.

Yea I hate to burst your bubble. Well, on second thought, I would love to. the foul count was not 35 to 9. BHG was in the bonus in both halves, which means TR had at least 14 fouls. And all of these alleged things that coach Alexander said to Wilks are exactly that, alleged. And Grover, in case you're too thick to understand that, it means they are supposed, not proven. Until any of you can prove what he said, you should really shut up about it. Or you can confront Alexander yourself. I dare you to do it. He would tear you to pieces
Longfellow, are you threatening people? Maybe your coaches anger issues are part of his problem if he is really that big and bad.

Don't think NWA gets all the love 12th. He's been dumping on ECS as well. And I have a hunch, based on his recurring topics, that we have heard this all before- maybe "bigbuckb" from last year (remember "parameter" basketball) has come back re-incarnated as Grover?

WPWells

I had thought that same thing!

WPWells

Longfellow didn't threaten anyone

PASS

Daring people to challenge their coach, he would rip them to shreds. That is a threat.

Longfellow

No saying i would rip them to shreds is a threat. If they want to say something to Alexander they should say it to his face, and not complain on a message board that he doesn't read

PASS

Longfellow, I disagree. That was a threat. You were telling anyone who disagreed to talk to the coach & he would rip them to shreds.

beach bum

Instead of the Supreme Court hearing major cases like this it will get turned over to the Rural Court for redneck justice apparently....

PASS

Btw Longfellow, I see where you deleted the post I am referring to. Why?

WPWells

I didn't think posters could delete their own posts

Longfellow

No I changed my post to remove a grammatical error. It's still there, unless a moderator removed it.
