I'm not a Curley Wolf fan, but then I'm not Anti-Curley Wolves either. Jut stating a contrary opinion. I happen to think Clinton is far better than posters from South Arkansas think.

I'm not saying you won't win but if you win by that score they might as well give you the state championship trophy after that game. We will see if you're that good. This isn't a 5 seed Charleston coming to town. We were a fumble away from being undefeated and a 1 seed but you may be right. Time will tell!

WHo cares? Every team that has ever won one, had zero at some point. All those titles for Charleston, and still zero points. It just doesn't make any difference. Clinton got a bad draw with Prescott, and might not can pull that one off, but I can assure you Prescott will know they've been in a game.

Exactly. I guess it would be to painful to show some sportsmanship and say great game Clinton, so picking an irrelevant statement to throw out is the best he can do. Absolutely respect and admire the schools that have the tradition but it's obviously impossible for some to say anything positive about Clinton.  Which is totally fine because while the Clinton football players do not post, and most don't even get on the FF forums as they are encouraged not to, they were sent some of the screenshots from the Charleston/Clinton thread and it was the best motivation tool ever.

Likely, since everyone knows there are 2-seeds and 2-seeds. Prescott is a cut above your average 2-seed. But then, there should be an fairly significant 1-2 contest next week, Mayflower at Rison.

This will be a really good game since Clinton hasn't seen a team like this all season. I still think Clinton wins it 33- 21 since Clinton isn't great at extra points they will have a couple blocked.

Clinton is very physical, they can run the ball all day on anybody, have been able to for mostly the past 7-8 years, they would have already had a state championship in the last 7-8 years if it were not for being in 4a and having a conference of Lonoke, Newport, Stuttgart, Dollarway, and etc. Just because they havent had a championship means squat, Dufrene knows what he is doing.

Toss up game in my opinion, but since it's very tough to play in Clinton, I'd give the edge to them.

Haha isn't that like saying Arkansas could have won an SEC title by now if they weren't in the same conference as Bama, LSU, Auburn, etc??

Hold on do you get to start the game with a extra point for every state title you have won? If so I haven't ever heard of this rule before. Truthfully I had no idea at all that past state titles helped teams in the present and future win games. Please tell me how this works sir.

Seeing how he is talking about a state title not a conference title it is more on the lines of national championship for the Razorbacks. But I understand some peoples comprehension levels are on the lower side.

This team this year is about the same as the last 6-7 teams Clinton has had, but the last two years they have been in 3a, sooo that's a pretty good shot.

So the only reason Clinton has not won a state title yet is because all those other better teams were in the way? And now they're not?

Oh I've been caught on the whole time. I'm just trying to verify the logic, or lack thereof, behind what you're saying.

Apparently you don't understand what it means to "run the ball all day on anybody", otherwise Clinton would have at least one state title in the last 7-8 years. I've witnessed a team do that while playing in the 4A with one of the lowest number of students in the classification. In fact, they dropped to the 3A the following year.

And now that Newport and Dollarway are in the 3A with Clinton, you think Clinton now holds the advantage if/when they meet up in the playoffs?

My point is, Clinton hasn't ran on anybody at will, or else they would have a title by now, regardless of classification or conference.

When you say "they would have already had a state championship in the last 7-8 years if it were not for being in 4a and having a conference of Lonoke, Newport, Stuttgart, Dollarway", that implies you couldn't beat those teams.

Since 2010:

2-2 against Dollarway
1-2 against Newport

Pure domination. Clinton sure "ran the ball all day" against them. Wow!!

I took your advice and did the research. I found out BannerMountainMan is still wrong, which is the point I made in the first place before you decided to hijack the argument for him, and I also confirmed that Clinton is an absolute powerhouse now that they're in the 3A!! Fascinating!

Geez you keep going back to 4A this and 4A that. What grade where these kids in when Clinton was in 4A. Just because teams from the past played 4A speed doesn't mean these kids have. You bringing up 4A is no different than bringing up past state championships. If you are gonna argue at least use the present teams not past.

You did but remember our quarterback was out the second half with leg cramps and we had fumbled going in the end zone to go up two scores with a few minutes left. Just saying! I know you will say you forced  all the fumbles so we will agree to disagree. 😁

Glad you stopped by so was it just cramps that kept #9 out of the game against Smackover? I was wondering watching the game.

I was watching him on the sidelines in the second half and it look to me like he was trying to stretch out his leg cramps. It was a hot night and he had trouble with cramps in a previous game also. He should have hydrated himself better before the game but paid the price and hurt his team by not being able to play the second half. Smackover didn't have a answer for him the first half, he ran all over them. Hopefully the rest of the games will be played in cold weather so he won't have that problem again.

I asked how many of those fumbles were forced and how many were actually recovered by Smackover.. Still no answer lol. I also asked if Prescott remembers Turner fumbling inside our own 20 to set up a touchdown for Prescott.. Both teams made mistakes in that ball game. Both teams also dropped a couple easy passes that could've easily been scores along with a few terrible calls by the refs. It's called football. At the end of the day Smackover left with the W. No team has scored over 26 points on Smackover this year. Also, Smackover always adjust well in the 2nd half.  Foreman, Junction City, Prescott, or Harmony Grove did NOT score on Smackover after halftime. That's called coaches making adjustments. So we can talk about all the mistakes we want but holding 2 of the top 3 teams in 2A and 2 top 10 3A teams to 0 points after halftime needs to be brought into the talk too then.

Oh alright I saw him go down very awkwardly on the sideline in the game and thought maybe that had something to do with it. The guy looks good super lanky not sure about how good his arm his didnt see him throw much in that game. But man he can move looks like a good player.

In watching that game it was sooooo sloppy. From the penalties to both teams turning the ball over multiple times. Smackover fumbled inside the 15 at one point and Prescott fumbled on a play that I thought the player scored on it was a crazy game.

Every team can make ajustments at halftime. That's the name of the game I thought?smackover won the game against Prescott by one point. Still been great if Prescott's quarterback could have been healthy the whole game to find out who was actually the better team.

Do u think your coach can come teach our coaches the halftime adjustment of when ur down 6 with 3 min left to make the other team score and throw the ball down right before he crosses the G-Line? Ur ridiculous! Only adjustments y'all made was getting the RB eligible. Or otherwise y'all would have traveled to Newport Or Osceola this past weekend. And would be dribbling basketballs right now. This is a Clinton Prescott thread. Gonna be a good one. 2 good teams and the players will decide the outcome not adjustments at halftime. Why wouldn't those be made before the game. Good coaches have a plan before the game starts not after a half has been played. Good lick to the Wolves and Jackets. A good team will end it's season Friday night.

Throw the ball down? Good try.. He was stripped.. The games Turner missed we still won so what are you saying? Adjustments are made before the game starts by looking at film. Other adjustments have to be made after the game starts because both teams only adjusted to what was seen on tape.

I wasn't there but that doesn't sound like something our coaches would do. Heck we beat Charleston 36 to 22 in the 2016 state championship game and we could have scored again at the end of the game but took ak knee. Our coaches are real good at showing good sportsmanship and putting in subs early in the game. It wouldn't prove anything to score again against a 2 and 8 Mountain View team.

Yes. our 9th grade center snapped it to our 9th grade qb  who handed it to our 9th grade running back who got a block from our 9th grade receiver and scored...not like Clinton keeping their starting o line and the starting d in the whole game against charleston. If you can't keep 9th graders from scoring maybe you shouldn't be in the playoffs...js

And the point of it was? They had a whole junior high season and will have three years to score touchdowns. If it was a seldom-played senior or someone going for a school record, then I could see it. That's why asked. But in this situation, it was unnecessary and says more about the program than anything else.

There was 22 seconds left, not 7:22 left, so give me a break about stopping ninth-graders. Sportsmanship and humility is something that should be taught to ninth-graders too.

If it was actually all 9th graders in the game I really doubt the coach expected that play to turn into a score.

But I disagree with your line of thinking on this. I mean it's not the coaches job to instruct his team not to score. It's the opposing coaches job to teach his team to stop them.

Sportsmanship was on display when the 9th graders took the field.

Have you not seen a team take the "victory formation" with 22 seconds left? I bet the junior high team at Prescott used it this season. It the coaches job to teach sportsmanship and humility too.

We are not talking 7:22 left in the game, we are not talking 3:22 left in the game, we are not even talking 1:22 left in the game, if we were I would probably agree with you. But there was 22 seconds left, a knee ended the game, instead they scored. Sorry, I stand my statement.

For the record, Clinton is 2-2 vs Newport. Clinton beat Newport 55-33 in 2010 and 56-21 in 2011. For the record, those two Newport teams won 4 games each. That is is worst 2 year record since the 1973 and 1974. Newport won 63-28 in 12 and 27-21 in 2013. Those Newport teams won 8 games and 9 games respectfully. And for the record, none of this has anything to do with Clinton vs Prescott in 2018. Good luck to both teams.

Good stuff.  Shifting the argument for 1-3A  (definitely not doing that now anymore one could argue) into an argument against 2-3A.  Youre in a good place, IMO.  Not exactly what argument youre making, but I know youre gonna be right in the end no matter whatever happens in all these games.

My brother pushed his best friend down in 1997 and made him hurt himself. In 2001 that friend pushed sammy who fell on top of margery which caused her to push little tommy the 1st grader down. Well then little tommy told his mom who come to school in 2004 and kicked franky in the nuts causing him to fall on shanika Quan who broke her pinky toe. 10 years later at the class reunion shanika found adrian and broke that pinky toe off in his rearend!! 9 months later in 2015 adrian gave birth to a 6lb 7ounce 9 toed foot. He was so mad that in 2020 he sued Thomas hearneiberg for defamation of foot, therefore adrian was 1-0 against the foot clan..

I think the key in this game will be Prescott's defensive line.   Not sure how they stack up.  I'm going to assume Clinton still throws a wall of blockers, and the other team better not get on their heels.

Don't listen to Curley. He did have a good first half against us, but he was stopped in the second half.

Cramps or whatever he didn't play the second half and that's the reason you squeaked it out by 1 point. That and we thought it was Christmas Day and were giving you fumbles as presents! This is what you get from a fan base who is not used to winning. They are hungry for attention and respect and if they beat Prescott they will get it. Gold had a good reason to say Prescott by 2 scores. We aren't Charleston, we're a 2 seed and a point and a fumble from being undefeated and a one seed. We could win by 2 touchdowns or we could lose by 2 touchdowns. Time will tell.

I'm changing my previous predictions score, still going clinton but score being 40-28. An I think it will be a really good game fun to see how clinton looks vs an equal opponent since I don't think they have truly faced one since heber.

Even if Clinton goes on to win state, they're not going to gain the amount of respect they deserve simply because all their fans are on here tugging on everyone's arm like a little kid begging for attention. "Look at me, look at me! I'm a big boy too!"  ::)

I don't know about this one Elmer.  Because whole lots of fans for a lot of teams do this continuously on here.  Even fans from teams who have been eliminated do it each year..   If that is what we are talking about here.

Charleytown didn't think that the Jackets were very good either and ran their mouths, I believe the clock ran the entire second half and they NEVER crossed the goal line.  I noticed that someone was making excuses why Prescott lost a couple of games, the Jackets have no excuses to make because there are none!  It's hard to argue about being undefeated!!!

Like I said before were not Charleston. We were  1 point away from being undefeated and a number 1 seed. I'm making excuses because if we don't fumble on Smackovers goal line we go up 2 touchdowns with a few minutes to play and win but that's football. You won 10 games against weak teams and we lost by 1 point to the number 2 team in the state so we will see who is the better team Friday night!

Prescott played Mtn View last week and only scored 15 in the first quarter  I believe at their own field not sure though..both teams finished with the same score against Mtn View. I'm sure Prescott is good from what i hear but at the end of the day both teams have worked hard to get here. They are kids and they all deserve to have a great game with everyone cheering. Nobody is trash at this point. They all love the game.

Gotta start somewhere. That's the real issue here... respect is about much more than winning. I respect teams and kids that don't win a lot, but, keep coming to practice and off-season because they love the game and love their teammates. Takes a lot more character to play three years of sub-.500 ball than being on a team that wins a lot. Show me a kid who perseveres and I'll show you a kid with a great shot at being successful in life. Lots of circumstances and results deserve respect.

To be more specific, Frank's is right by the gas station in Choctaw south of Clinton. The Hickory House is the best barbeque in the state from what I have experienced. Know the owners and they are down-home great people. Get the jumbo barbeque sandwich and onion rings and you will have to get some of their famous ice cream. Then you can watch the Jackets teach Prescott about the wing-T.

To be honest, I am a Clinton fan but I think the game will be very close. I think Clinton pulls it out because of the home field and the long trip for Prescott. Can't predict too much defense for these good offensive teams. 40-35 Clinton. That is 2 missed EP by Matt Gonzales.

To be honest, I am a Clinton fan but I think the game will be very close. I think Clinton pulls it out because of the home field and the long trip for Prescott. Can't predict too much defense for these good offensive teams. 40-35 Clinton. That is 2 missed EP by Matt Gonzales.
Our defense will not give up 40 pts. JS... And we can teach the Jackets the spread.

From sounds of this Prescott cld beat NLR all the other 3A teams might as well stay at house I mean they are 1 point 1 fumble from being #1 seed and conference champs.
Actually that would take 2 more points to get the win.

We welcome Prescott into town Friday and pray for safe travels and and an injury free game for both teams. Visited briefly with some Prescott scouters sitting on our side at the Mountain View game and could tell they were fine folks. In addition to the above restaurants mentioned we have a Huddle House that is great and there is a bistro in the strip mall behind the KFC that is really really good. This will be a great game between two great teams, neither of which need the approval or their praises sang by those who have no investment or real interest our town and team, although the support is appreciated by those who have said encouraging comments about our kiddos. We are beyond proud of our boys and coaches and they are proud of themselves and are looking forward to a great matchup and a great night of football! Oh and if you eat at Huddle House the big breakfast platter is great and can feed two people for about $10 unless you are my son who can handle the whole thing in about three minutes. Safe travels everyone!!

I read this really great post which prompted me to read through the rest of Mr. Fudd's posts and could not help but wonder if Ol' Elmer knows what it means to "respect" anyone or be "respectful"???
Elmer Fudd...do you have a child that plays a sport or, perhaps, are you the child playing ???  If you are either, than perhaps you are not the parent that drives all over the state regardless of whether your team is winning or losing and I can't imagine you are the parent that sees the hope and determination in your child's eyes...maybe you are the player that was never encouraged thus your only go to is to discourage others.
Here is what I know about this and any playoff game of any sport...these kids work their tail ends off to get here regardless of division or conference. They put hours in everyday, they get their bodies beat to heck at every game...so they can make their school proud, their parents proud, and their town proud.  At this stage in the game no one is getting stomped because they are trash or too slow...not every team has made it this far and that's something to be respected for.   These games are important for all of these boys on Friday..eight schools will be done for the season, that means there will be a lot of boys who will play their last game....EVER!!! They all have a dream and a hope on that field and then the Elmer Fudds of the world have to come in and try to kill it...shame!!!

I was just looking at stats which we all know that don't mean anything. Clinton played Mtn View and 1st quarter scored 35 points and put third string in. Prescott played Mtn View last week and only scored 15 I believe at their own field not sure though.. I'm sure Prescott is good from what i hear but at the end of the day both teams have worked hard to get here. They are kids and they all deserve to have a great game with everyone cheering. Nobody is trash at this point. They all love the game.
Does lying about the score make you feel like you have the better team? There happened to be a couple of guys from Prescott at that game in Mt. View and the score was 14-0 at the end of the 1st qtr. Like you said comparing scores means nothing buy lying about those scores is something else.

I'm thinking he meant to say after the second quarter for the MV game. It was 35-0 going into the locker room at halftime and after the half the subs went in. You are correct that it was 14-0 after the first quarter.

Im not a Clinton fan but believe their fans have been less obnoxious giving props to their team than most others.  The 1-3A fans now (a lot of them) seem to be doing what they say Clinton is doing even better.  But just recently many thought Charleston would kill them because Clinton sucks.   I dont know Elmer.  I can only respond to what I read on here.   It kind of reminds me of the way Some 4-3A fans used to be a couple of years ago.  Fans are fans.

To comment on the thread though, this should be the absolute game of the week.  I think Clinton wins in a battle but it wouldnt suprise me at all if the Curley Wolves unleash more offense and move to round 3.

No need to say Clinton played 10 "weak teams" because that isn't true. Prescott should have the edge here, so, how about being a little humble and letting the game play out?
I'm an old Curley Wolf and I agree with the above poster; let's be humble until we win the game.  We've won our share and we've certainly lost our share of games.  Good luck to both teams. Get'em wolves.

We are a little salty about our Tigers, but, Clinton looked dang good. Looking forward to seeing the score on this one. Prescott has been relevant for a while, but if Clinton wants to stake their claim to relevancy in 3A amongst the juggernauts, now is their chance. This could turn into a dogfight. Good Luck to both teams. Keep it clean Friday! Prescott, safe travels.

Wow you must be clairvoyant cause that is totally correct. My son came home from practice yesterday, said they watched four minutes of Prescott film and couldn't take anymore.  He was crying so we, of course, sent him to his safe space to cope. They have all decided to spend the week chugging Monsters and Mountain Dew and catching Fortnite dubs instead of concentrating on the game.

For the visitors, band sits on the right side of the visitor bleachers. Fans take what's left.

It's not uncommon for visitors to sit on the home side, to the right.

"Average" teams either barely make, or completely miss, the playoffs.

I disagree. Average teams easily make the playoffs. Above average teams make the final four or compete for a state title

The second-round of the 2018 Class 3A football playoffs this Friday will see Prescott High School square off against the Yellowjackets again, only this time, the more formidable and undefeated 11-0 Clinton Yellowjackets.
Under the leadership of Coach Chris Dufrene, Clinton is riding the wave of a 49-0 demolition of the Charleston Tigers in last week's playoff opener and will have home field advantage again this week up in Clinton.
Before meeting Clinton's Yellowjackets, Prescott took care of the Mountain View Yellowjackets 42-6 in their opening round game last week in Prescott.
Facing Clinton, the Curley Wolves will see a team that looks much like itself.
Both teams come in averaging over 40 points per game, and both teams have seen peak scoring performances in the 2nd Quarter of their games this year, Prescott averaging 17 points, while Clinton is right behind averaging 16 points.
But while both teams have averaged over 371 yards in offense, they have moved the ball in different ways, which could be to the Curley Wolves advantage on Friday.
Both teams have featured strong rushing attacks; Prescott has averaged 253 rushing yards, while Clinton has averaged slightly more at 279 rushing yards per game.
Prescott, however, has shown better balance with a passing attack, led competently by QB Ryan Johnson, averaging 166 yards in the air, while the Yellowjackets have averaged just 99 yards throwing over the course of the season.

Lots of people in here discounting the credibility of both teams. That's just silly. They're both tough. And who knows, it could be the state's best game this week.

My dad is better than your dad, your dad is just average. He can only bench 225, it doesn't matter if he can squat 450, it's all about the bench, he's just average. Nothing about your dad stands out. Remember a few weeks ago when they went fishing together and my dad caught one more fish than your dad becuase your dad's line broke, that means that my dad is better. Your dad is average. It doesn't matter that they both qualified for the fishing tournament. Your dad is average. This may be the first time my dad beat your dad, but that's because your dad is just average. My dad is better.

You misunderstand the term "average."  In an eight team conference, the top three teams are above average, the middle two are average, and the bottom three are below average. Therefore, when 4 and 5 seeds make the playoffs, that puts "average" teams on the bubble of making post-season play or not.  It's just applied statistics.

If were average than Smackover is just as average since we were up 20 to 7 at halftime against you and fumbled going in your end zone to go up 2 touchdowns and put the game out of reach. We were ahead the whole game except for the last couple minutes when we gave you a gift and you capitalized on it. You will see how average you are when you play Osceola!  Remember you won by 1 point because of our gift to you so if we're average you're average! 😁

Back when I played, we should have won every game. Problem was sometimes we didn't score enough or gave up too many points, or both. Otherwise we would have been undefeated!

Home Field in High School Football is generally worth 7 points when both teams are comparable.  So, Technically, We won by 8.  Thanks for the "Gift" anyway. ;D

No on another thread I told this person I was pulling for Smackover to make it to the finals and I was sure he felt the same so it could be a all 5-3a championship game and he comes back and said he is pulling for Clinton and I said okay but the reason I think you're not pulling for Prescott is because you don't want a rematch with us. I would love to play Smackover again but I told him it probably wouldn't happen because I don't see them getting past Osceola. My opinion.

I simply defined "average" from an applied statistics perspective. Some "average" teams miss the playoffs, others advance to post-season play. Some "average" #4 and #5 seed teams beat objectively above average teams. No implication on performance.

Your definition of "average" is about right for the classic Bell Curve model. Ranking the top two teams puts 25% of the teams as "above average" in an eight-team conference. It creates a broad 50% as average, and the same 25% as below average. Statistically tidy.

I think you will all be very surprised come Friday. Clinton has a very versatile team with many many play makers. Prescott may be the better overall team, but I think Clinton is going to come into Friday night wanting it more. Gonna be a great game. Going to try to setup some kind of a live stream. I'll post a link if it's successful.
Can we get a SITREP on the live stream? Ty

bring lawn chairs if y'all want, there are plenty of hillside also to sit in, beats the cold bleachers, and probably just a goodnight of view, it's the same distance to the field as the bleachers

I can honestly say I've never watched a football game from a lawn chair. With a camp Fire I think I'd like this.

Now Oldman I'm just gonna go ahead and tell ya, if you build a camp fire on the sidelines it's probably not gonna end well. My advice is don't do it.

+1. I'm also adding wishes for an injury-free game. That also applies to anyone who might choose to build a campfire on the hillside. He might get injured as the POlice drag him off to the mental ward.

We got jokes up in here!!! Not only do we have Fearless Friday we also have Saturday Night Live and Elmer Fudd's Your host.

Let me start by saying congrats to the KIDS of both teams! Clinton players should hold their heads up. You don't just win 11 games in a row without being a good team. It was a good season.

Now....for the Clinton POSTERS who so desperately begged for our attention and wouldn't heed our many warnings to pull back on the reigns a bit, we told you so.

And since I had the honor of being dubbed the host of Saturday Night Live, I feel that it's my duty to entertain my audience. Relax and enjoy the show.......

Yes Sir! I know how you feel.

Lot's of folks will tell you that any past games or tradition has no bearing on the game being played.

I believe history more times than not has a habit of repeating itself. Tradition applies as much as home field advantage in my opinion.

It was Prescott's tradition that was the deciding factor in me picking ya'll to eliminate Clinton.

Congratulations on the big win!

A 2-5 playoff  record with no teams past the 2nd round says it was the worst conference.

1) 5-3A

2) 6-3A
3) 1-3A

4)3-3A
5)4-3A

6)2-3A
