With over 30,000 views and almost 1500 post the 1-4A proved again it has the best baseball and the best fans in the state.  Congratulations to all the teams the past year and this conference will be getting it's 3rd straight state championship come Saturday, and has had a member play in the game for the past 5.  At one time a lot of the state would look no further than Shiloh when it came to baseball and our conference.   Just remember 4 or 5 years ago Farmington was playing for it all and they have finished in the semi several times since as well.  Shiloh is the only team to beat PG in the state tournament the past several year, and IMO could have cost us a few straight state championships ourselves. Lol. But that's baseball and the best team probably won.  So all the players in this conference should be very proud of what they have accomplished the past 5 years.  BEST AND MOST COMPETITIVE CONFERENCE IN THE STATE and the records prove it.......
In 2008,  Valley view and Rivercrest played in the state finals.  Gosnell was also in the semis along with Nashville.  So it has not been the last five years that a team from that conference was in the finals.

Ok past 4 years.. thats still impressive

Dime back, I think we got his point.   What he should have said was our conference is heads above your conference.

Never said it was not the best conference, we know you guys over there do not even think this part of the state exists in sports, education, or quality of life.  Just wanted to let you know we do exist over here.

Well I'm gonna go ahead and call my shot right now - PG will win it all next year.

Never too early badger.

hard to argue with that considering what is returning to pg. with kincaid on hill, they will be tough throughout. dont know what yr halbert is, but i think tice is returning also.

Nip/Tusk

Halbert is a junior, Tice is a sophomore. They will be loaded and ready to go. Clear cut favorites.

CLEAR CUT FAVORITES, i bet cameron is glad shiloh is moving on up and out. cameron has done a great job with pg, theyre the denver broncos of the 1-4a

Loveofthegame

Are you guys kidding me???  Per Bob, Trumann is by far the clear cut favorite.  They have Vinson and a slew of other guys that have never got out of regionals but they have always been winners & are working through their recruiting options.   ;D

Leather, did you ever get your draft round from him???

PG - - may not be just the best 4A team, but one of the best in the state next year.  Personally, I hope they win it next year - they have had tough luck the past several years.

Ethan McKinzie, former Gravette pitcher, started tonight for Central Arkansas and pitched six scoreless innings against Mississippi State at Starkville, scattering five hits.   UCA defeated the Bulldogs, tied with Arkansas at third in the SEC West, 2-0.

NOPE, bob has decided not to let us in on what round he drafted by houston in 97. maybe it was the trumann wiffle ball league and his cousin( mary lou) chose him in the 3rd round after ernie from "my three sons" and the " beaver" staring jerry mathers, were chosen ahead of him.

pitching and defense wins titles, and pg will have both next year.

I was going to come post about Ethan and UCA's big night, but should have known that G would beat me to it ::) Struck out 4 and didn't allow a runner to advance beyond first base. Also induced 2 double play ground balls. It's UCA's second win over an SEC team in program history with the other coming against Ole Miss back in 2009.

The Bears are in contention to qualify for postseason play for the first time since moving up to Division 1 athletics. And they are doing it with primarily Arkansas kids from small high schools that were overlooked by the larger schools because they went to a small school. Congratulations to the Bears on a HUGE win for the program.

Pg SHOULD win.. But better watch out for Truman, they might make state this year ;)

Farmington will be the only team who will be any competition for PG next year.  They will always have a chance with a good outing with Strope.   PG will be the overwhelming favorite though.  They only have to replace an outfielder, infielder, and catcher.  Not going to loose much at the plate other than Daniels, so the catching position will be the big one and the other two will take care of itself.  With the talent Cameron has I don't  see that being a problem.

gametime

Never mind,  forgot Nick Sugg will catch for PG for the next 2 years.  PGT123, I hope your kids not a catcher, if so you better find another position for him or he won't see the field for the next 2 years.

Just ask 101 ;)

rumor has it that groundball will be grilling steaks in the parking lot at baum and handing out free chic-fil-a sweet tea along with the sides of beef.

PG will be more strong next year than this year. IMO, I think with no Shiloh and alot of starters coming back for pg, they will win state or come close next year.

leatherneck

hey ground ball , missed your cookout today? where were you?

the saints ended their yearly march into baum and left with the golden ring again this year, bet you're glad theyre gone to another part of the state next year.

Panther13

You guys are over looking a very good Stuttgart team that will have something to say about who wins the state title next year. The East Region could produce a state champion next year despite what the Northwest thinks! With Stuttgart and Trumann who Knows what next year holds?

leatherneck

ya i forgot, just ask bob6...trumann #1 and the team that beat trumann #2. make it out of regionals and then start thinking about state, until you make it out of regionals, refer back to bob6

Well I'm gonna go ahead and call my shot right now - PG will win it all next year.

I think Prairie Grove may be the preseason favorite, but the teams moving down into 4A next year are very strong in baseball, so don't think that PG is going to have a cake walk.  I believe Monticello, Arkadelphia, and CAC will all contend for a state championship.

One of the more talented teams I saw all year was Ashdown.  If they can find any arms to go with their bats and defense, they will be a tough out.  I believe they had just one senior, and he didn't bat.

Someone else mentioned Stuttgart.  I'm not sure who all they return, but their bats were good 1-9.

Loveofthegame

Leather, bob is still showing you a lot of love!  Did you ever get that round out of him??   ;)

As I said on back, Trumann must be the team to beat even though PG has a majority of their team, including pitching, coming back.  The "wait until next year" would be a lot more convincing if the team made any type of run this year & didn't go out in first round of regionals.  PG made it to the semi's & loss to the state champs.  If fact, isn't Shiloh the only 4A team that beat them this year??  Tigers have to be the favorite and for a good reason!  To bad Shiloh leaving the conference next year.  Losing 10 seniors will make them look a lot different next year - -  could have been revenge year like in football this year.

Shiloh & Lonoke was a very good game.  Thought Lonoke came out to play with the first guy hitting a BB to short on the first pitch of the the game, then the next guy gets a hit, then they try to steal him and immediately lose their momentum.    Petrino, like him or not, had a great game with the exception of the base running collison at second.  Odd play, but all he had to do is get up and get back to the base verses through his hands up and complain.

I sat behind plate & the outside corner was very wide.  Both teams took advantage of it, and is part of the reason for low score.  I noticed in the 6th when Harris came up & got 2 strikes that he all but got on the plate because he got rung up earlier in the game on a around the plate curve ball.  Not sure what Petrino was hitting on the radar, but excellent velocity and Lonoke lefty was very good.  Good pace, good breaking ball, and several slot positions.

I thought a big deal in the game was the base running by Shiloh in the 6th.  Can't remember who was on base, but a shallow fly to right  made it interesting at second with the runner at first not sure if he should run & he took a chance and took off.  Beat the throw to put men on first an second then they had the double steal that put them in scoring position on the hit that brought in 2 runs by the freshman with 2 outs.  Went from a 2 run game to 4, HUGE & makes pitching in the 7th a lot easier!

I hate i left.  Sounds like the next game had some very interesting plays and the player getting chunked & being escorted by police.  YIKES!

Fun year of baseball.  There hasn't been much talk about the bats (bbcor), but hitting does seem to be a lot tougher.  good pitching seems to shut down the hitting a little easier.

Congrats to the Saints & I believe I will be saying the same thing to PG next year!!

Bob, Kids peak out at young ages sometimes.. It doesnt mean they're going to be the best in High school if they are really good at a young age... Kids mature, get bigger, faster and stronger.

You do realize that all state selections are voted on by the coaches in the conference, right?  I'm sure there are some politics going on in some instances, but a player has to be nominated by their own coach to even be voted on for all state.

NwaSportsFan

Just because your on a bad team doesn't mean your not good...

infielder

I saw this and I really thought this was funny.  Do you realize Lynch was the number three pitcher on the VV team as a junior and he pitched very little in the post season in 2008.  They were in the semis in 2006 and Lynch did not pitch much at all and none in the postseason.  In 2007 he was the number two pitcher when they went to the semis.  Then in 2010 VV wnt 30-3.  In 2011 they were good until they were ate up by injuries to the pitching staff.  This year remember they played Shilo to a one run extra inning game and they were winning until the coach told them he was going to retire and move to Missouri.  I can tell you for 10 years they were on of the topped coach teams in the state and from 2005 -2012 they were very good.

AMEN!!

Trumann and their WHOLE conference gets eliminated in Regionals and now they want to talk about next year winning it all - - give me a break.  So what, you have 3 all conference players in a terrible conference.  Don't even bring Valley View up - - they were good when they had one stud pitcher carry them for multi years - - Cade Lynch.  What have they done since then - - nothing.  Just because you have seniors doesn't mean your going to dominate anything.  I have heard enough about Trumann for a life time and prefer they stay off the 1-4A board that DOES have the best teams in the state and are showing that by all 4 of them moving on to state.  Go and start practing your legion ball and leave us alone.  Wow, I feel better.
