The Harrison gas stations are definitely price gouging........$2.82 last night .  They went up 5 cents overnight.  Our gas has always been a little higher here due to the fact that the 2 families in town that control it have formed a flippen monoply.    Personally, I am getting ready to trade off my mid size SUV (Trailblazer EXT) by this weekend and get a 4 banger that holds 15 gallons and I go go 6 million miles on it.   A VW Bug convertible is looking really nice to me  :D  I kept holding out thinking it would improve.......not happening .  My son drives a Tahoe and he's going to get a big surprise when mama goes shopping for a more fuel efficient ride for him  ;D

On a better note, I did get rid of my 30 foot Travel Trailer last week, therefore I won't be dragging that dang thing to the lake every weekend. I did decide to  keep my boat because it has what is = to a 4 cyl engine.  We can haul ourselves up and down the lake all day long, dragging tubers for $40.00 . My  good friends just purchased a brand new 22 ft Tahoe with a 454 in it.  They asked me what I thought of it when we took it out the first time and I said  "love the boat, but it'll cost you 25 big ones to drive it from the launch to the nearest cove to park it for the day"  ;D  50 gallon tank x $3.00 gallon  :o  $ 150.00 fill up.....no thanks  !     The fuel cost have finally affected my household  >:(

$2.79 - I heard on the radio this morning don't look for it to come down anytime soon.

*Sadly, the gougers have raised a prise a nickel in the last few hours. $2.84

I just spent $32.50 to fill my lil 1989 Chevy Cavalier up.

1-Adam-12

2.79 in Booneville....unless it went up since 4:00 and it may well have.

I fear before I make my road trip in June it will be 3.00 or more.

Mustang1434

At 2 of the more pricy stations here in NLR (Exxon & Phillips 66) it was $2.89. I didn't go by Wal-Mart today but it is probably around $2.85.

Uncle Ivan

It was $2.75 a month ago in Chicago.

It's got to have cracked three by now.

some good news and more excuses

The national average price was $2.83 per gallon, 11 cents more than last week.

Auto club spokesman Paul Gonzales says the price spike is fueled by speculator concerns over a recent decline in the nation's gasoline inventories. "Some refineries are switching to a formula of gas that requires ethanol, instead of MTBE, and there have been spot shortages of ethanol," he said.

They have known for over a 2 years that they would have to make this change IE we get shafted for their POOR PLANNING

"Within 3-4 weeks, refineries completing their transition should be at full production, and as many as 1 million additional barrels of gasoline per day will enter the nation's supply stream and prices should decline."

I was beginning to wonder if there'd ever be light at the end of the tunnel.

After seeing the prices and the anger of others, I decided to check and see what the Oil Companies are making on the gas.  I was quite surprised on what I found.  A barrel of oil is 42 gallons of crude, of which, 19.5 gallons will be gasoline after it is refined.  I checked out the profits from 1990 to present:
            Cost      Cost    Cost   Cost     Profit
Per         of        at      with      Per       Percent

This is a graph of the breakdown of a barrel of oil.    Interesting in what they get out of it.

$2.76 today in Searcy.

Where do you buy gas at?  Everywhere I look it's $2.79.  I know three cents isn't that much to some of you but I use about 70-75 gallons of gasoline EVERY WEEK and believe me, it adds up very quickly!

I heard an interesting thing today about jet fuel.  To fill a 747 it cost American Airlines $48,000 in 2003.  Today it cost them $123,000.  That is a lot of gas right there.

I have another tid bit about how we do things that just hacked me off.  Everyone knows about the strategic reserves that we have for emergencies.  What you may not know is that we put into this reserve 30,000 barrels a day.  Bush just stopped that today saying that the 30,000 is more important for the people not the government.  For how long have we been stock piling gas and who is in charge of this?  It just seems like, to me, that there should be a tbrigger in the system that says "You know, when the gas is at $-.--, then we buy all we can and replenish the stocks or roll over the older stock.  But when it gets to this $-.-- value, we draw down the purchases and hold our stocks at current levels."  If gas is overpriced -and it is, then we as a nation have been lining someones pocket on the tune of 30,000 barrels a day for sometime.  And we wonder why we don't trust the government.

Remember when gas went up to 1.72 right after 911.  I though that was high.  gias now is ridiculouls.

PHIL IS MY HERO aka RTVM

the sad part about it is that it is still almost 20% cheaper now than what it was in 1980.  Of coarse, taking in inflation.  While I think you will never see $1.50 again, it will get back lower in several months, that is, unless the Iran deal goes south!

This is a list of all the refineries that are here in the USA.  The US has not built a new refinery in 30 years. Yet in that same time frame, we have closed down over 30 units.  I am going to research these units and see who owns them (country).  I will post that later.

This is what I have so far on who owns the refineries.  What I have found so far is a lot of these exchanging hands from one company to another.  Some of these may be foreign owned because it is very hard to identify who is the actual owners of most of the units.  Their websites say they are a subsidiary operation but in some cases they don't say by who.  I will complete the others and post them later.

Yea, to quote myself, it's still $2.76 in Searcy, What a bunch of BS!

Did anyone else see the Exxon executive on t.v. the other day?  Said they'll charge whatever they want because they are in the business to make money.  HELLO, I'm in the Real Estate business to make money but my commission fees don't go up just because I want them to.  Now if gas doesn't settle down, they might! j/k
