American Burger Center and Bailey's Country Cookin are the go-to. Also a Mexican place that is acceptable, Sonic, Subway, and the Red Mule for pizza. (Best pizza in Izard County)

For this coming from the east, Meacham's in Ash Flat is excellent!

I think if Corning comes ready to play like they did against Manila, the 3A-3 will sweep in the boys.

We hear that every year, but it never seems to happen.  It usually splits 2 and 2.

On the Boys side I don't see Osceola or Manila losing and I also think Valley takes care of Corning. The Clinton-Rivercrest game is the toughest to predict for me but I'll go with Clinton.

I'm gonna say Osceola, Manila and Rivercrest win and the Corning game is a toss up.

Go big or go home.  Yellville-Summit pulls a Manila and shocks the state and sends Osceola home. (Not serious)
Manila will beat Marshall solidly.
If Rivercrest plays like they did Friday, Clinton could go home early.  If they play like most of the season, then Clinton by 10.
I think Valley will beat Corning, but I will be pulling for the Bobcats.  Hard.

Everyone drive safely and have a good tournament.

They can't handle pressure, turn it over with any kind of ball pressure. Weak guards. Solid rebounders, but the team plays hard.

i feel that there is a few teams that can win  this years state.theres no one team that stands head and shoulders above everyone like a couple of years ago like cedar ridge.but i do like the 3a3 chances of winning it all.

How good is this Yellville team?

Yellville is probably a little better than their 19-10 record shows. They are athletic and play hard all the way to the end. Would have a good chance of making it to state if they were to play in any other region. Unfortunately, the road to state goes thru Osceola. With just a little over 700 kids, they are the smallest 3A school in the state, and will make the much-needed move down to 2A next year.
Title: Re: Region 3 @ Melbourne
Post by: drybones on February 18, 2018, 07:20:08 pm
Yellville was 1 point away from keeping Osceola out of the state tournament 2 years ago. That has been their only state tournament appearance in the past 3 years. This time of year anything is possible. Clinton showed that last year when they beat them 1st round of regionals. Good luck to all the 3a-1E teams in Melbourne.

Might as well give my opinion, I predict Osceola by 30+, Corning pulls off the upset in a tight game,  and while it would not surprise me if Marshall beat Manila (they have two really good players) I think Manila wins. Clinton and RiverCreset is the hard one to predict though. I am going to say Clinton wins and is the only team from that district to advance.

Every year since 2010 people come on here and claim that the 3A-1 East conference is going to get swept.  It doesn't normally happen.  I think Osceola is a tough draw for Yellville-Summit.  Manila is probably much better than Marshall.  Clinton is pretty good and at the very least more consistent than Rivercrest.  Valley Springs won the district for a reason and have played a good schedule.  No reason to think they shouldn't be the favorite over Corning.

It's basketball and anything can happen, but I would bet against a sweep.  On the girls side, MV will win this region.

Colts might not win but in 2011 Colts finished 3rd in conference and 3rd in the district tourney behind all season long favorites Earle and Manila , well I certainly remember how that season ended for the Colts 🏀🏆💍3A State Champs.

That wasn't the question.  But your point is excellent.  I think Yellville might have made some noise the last few years in State, but getting past the 3 is like murderer's row. There have been years when the team out of our district that we think will be the saltiest falls early and someone else stuns.  Like I said in an earlier thread somewhere, the unfamiliarity with each other because of lack of proximity, and the one shot first round nature, sends someone unexpectedly home, and someone unexpectedly onward.  Usually like you point out, by the end of the regional, the strongest team of the 4 that make it past round 1 tends to be the 1 seed going into the state tourney.

You are completely right, forgot about Riverside.  The girls championship will be Riverside or Mountain View.  I wasn't trying to slight Riverside, just failed to realize they were now in this region.  Both are legit and could both be in the state finals.

Riverside was up by 17 to start the 4th and decided to hold the ball the entire 4th quarter. Bergman cut it down to 7 but couldn't get over the hump. I'd love to have the ball holding strategy explained to me. Lady Rebels were clearly the better team and we're headed to a 20+ point victory.

Riverside was up by 17 to start the 4th and decided to hold the ball the entire 4th quarter. Bergman cut it down to 7 but couldn't get over the hump. I'd love to have the ball holding strategy explained to me. Lady Rebels were clearly the better team and we're headed to a 20+ point victory.

big reason why we need a shot clock in highschool Basketball.

They usually don't fare as well outside the friendly confines of home.  But we are all just whiners and complainers.   ;D

Marshall lost by 20 to Clinton and nearly 30 to Yellville a few weeks back before the 3/4 game on Saturday where we were up by 20 before calling the dogs off.  Marshall is reasonably solid.  I hope everyone keeps predicting 30 point blowouts over us.  This region can play a little hoops too from time to time.

That goes without saying. The Valley guys was talking from playing at their house.  They would put their length 3 strong right up front, instead of a full pressure man like Osceola likes with their guards. We have fared much better against most teams than we did against the two games in Valley's gym.  The early Clinton game was a perfect storm of nothing going in for us and everything going in for them combined with us missing our football players. Valley Springs, Deer and Huntsville had our number and beat us twice.  The other losses were a 3 point last minute shot in overtime to Alpena, 12 point loss down at Marshall and a 2 point loss to 4A Berryville.  Huntsville got us by 3 at their place.  So other than the Clinton debacle and the sound beating over at Valley the first trip over, we have been in every game we played this year.  Now I know we haven't seen anything like Osceola, but this year we don't go into regionals with 2 starters sitting with a messed up ankle and another at home in bed with the flu.
T
The seminoles will get our best shot.  Whatever that is worth.  My question is how was the crew calling the games? Tight or loose?  If they call it tight, we might get them in foul trouble on the bigs and we do at least shoot free throws okay.  If they call it loose, it might get out of hand.

Good luck to all, the final four will be set tomorrow night either way.

If my noles come to play and is all about business they wouldn't have no problem beating anyone. Long as they don't look over anyone and play Seminole ball, it wont look good for other teams. Far as yellville, Osceola will be the most fastest, dangerous, physical and athletic team they have played this year. The pressure these guess are about to lay on yellville is about to be crazy. Hope both teams come out ready. I will miss this game have to work. Noles by 10+

+1 Mustang. I've watched a lot of high school games and have never seen a team up 17 at the start of the 4th quarter hold the ball the whole 4th quarter. Every Rebel fan I talked to after the game couldn't figure it out either lol! But at least the Lady Rebels "hung on" to advance to state!

So let me get this right, they held the ball the whole 4th quarter and were up 17? Like didn't shoot the ball?? It's one thing to let off the gas but that right there is the only conceivable way to lose that ballgame!

After playing Yellville at district I firmly believe that Osceola stands no chance at beating Yellville. Yellville is far more superior at everything (Ex. Shooting. Defense, and athleticism) I will take all bets on this. Osceola is over ranked.

They scored 11 in the 3rd not holding the ball, and scored 10 in the 4th holding the ball. They made the free throws when it counted down the stretch.

After playing Yellville at district I firmly believe that Osceola stands no chance at beating Yellville. Yellville is far more superior at everything (Ex. Shooting. Defense, and athleticism) I will take all bets on this. Osceola is over ranked.
Osceola 61 Yellville 45 😂...IT WAS TOO EASY

First off Congrats to Osceola for a good win. They were the better team. Yellville just didn't have the depth. Three starters fouling out and a crippled point guard 3 minutes into the game is just too much. If you was at the game, you would know that we handled the pressure ok, but there were definitely turnovers. Poor shooting under the goal and foul trouble are what got Yellville down.  Good thing the "noles" were not overly confident, unlike the posters on this board. There was no 30-40 point beat down. After reading all the comments on this thread, I have realized that the maturity level is lacking for several posters. As far as who Yellville has played to get 20 wins?  Some more disciplined teams that shoot a heck alot better than Osceola. The kids on both teams played hard, I will be rooting for Osceola for the rest of the tournament, but just not sure if they have all the pieces for a state championship.

It wasn't the "press", it was the length and especially the quickness just in the half court game.  Our point guard twisted his ankle bad in the first 3 minutes.  They taped it up and he went and let's be honest, it wouldn't have made a difference, but it sure didn't help.  But what I mean is that in the half court, Osceola was a half step quicker to get in front and stop drives that Yellville would've completed against less athletic teams.  We missed several shots that we frequently would've made during the year, primarily because of the quickness and length.  But the real difference was in our half court defense.  The constant drives inside finally paid off because Yellville was a step slow compared to the quickness.  3 of our starters, including our 3 tallest starters fouled out, especially our 6'5" post in the middle of the 3rd.  We got a few charges here and there, but just weren't fast enough to cut off the drives, that we would've handled with a less athletic team.

I suspect that there are not any 3A teams more athletic than you guys.  I don't think you will win state, but I think you will go far and will handle Valley tomorrow and will get a chance to maybe get some revenge on Manila Saturday.

We may see some of you again in baseball regionals in a few months.  Anybody got the skinny on who should be stout over there this year in baseball, besides Manila?

After that you won't have Yellville to kick around anymore.   ;D  We'll be playing in 2A, which is what our current enrollment puts us at.  So if you are the supposed number one team in the state in 3A, I guess we are 16 points worse than the number one team in the state. I guess we'll have to live with that.  :D

In the future I think it would be very beneficial for Yellville to try to schedule some games or tournaments in NEA. I think those experiences would definitely help in post-season. Though we are moving down to 2A, there are some NEA powerhouses in that division also.

Good Luck, be careful driving in this crappy weather.

Who do you suggest they play? There are very few 4A+ teams in their area and teams like Harrison won't play smaller schools. They don't have much of a choice without traveling a ridiculous distance.

I can tell you it will benefit every (Hill) school to play some teams in the Eastern half of the state to be ready for postseason. It just seems they play more physical and it seems like the officials let them play more physical so that's what the kids are use too. Osceola's constant pressure is what makes them so hard to beat. You have to have depth and good strong guards which is why Manila can play with them. You will not see many 3A teams like them.

Yellville is the type team, if they had played some "Delta" schools growing up, they might have could made a run in state. Like I said, they had some kids who could make plays, played hard & together. It is just really tough to adjust to the quickness when you hadn't seen it. Best of luck to YS on the move to 2A, good squad.

This is how you handle talking on a message board with a little class.  I look forward to seeing you guys at regionals in baseball.  Sounds like you will be salty again as usual. Yellville will have our best baseball team in probably 4 years this year.  Hope we don't get a terrible draw like we did in basketball and have to face someone like you guys in the first round.

And some of you fans need to learn some basketball.  While Osceola does run a "run and jump" press, similar to what Nolan ran back in the 90s, that is not what caused the turnovers.  We got into the half court and turned it over there like gangbusters, because of quick hands, and us not being quick enough to get by your guys because you are the quickest athletic team we have played this year.  The turnovers were because of your great half court man to man defense, not any sort of organized press.  Valley actually runs a better press, but they are like us and nowhere near quick enough to handle Osceola.  One thing they do better than us though is shoot the three from outside.  If Yellville would've shot better from outside, it might have been more like a 10 point game than a 20.  The only chance Valley has to win going forward in this region is to shoot lights out and run a deliberate half court offense, where they don't drive into double teams and ball slaps like we did all night long.

Good luck to all left.  You might hear from me when we get close to district time in baseball.  Have a good day.

The game was basically over when YS number 24 got injured and number 35 pick up his 2nd fouls. I thought they handle Osceola pressure well before those two things happen.  They did the two thing a team need to do against a team that pressure you with traps.  They made shots and when they did turn it over, it didn't lead to lay ups.  When those two things stopped (with 24 and 35 off the floor) things got out of hand.

That guy was an obvious troll, probably a high school student messing with you.  Most of us with any intelligence found any comment like that laughable.  With ending up with the 3 seed out of our district that I won't discuss any more in here, to Osceola finding a way to lose by one point to Manila to drop to the 2 seed, it seems like the universe conspired to give us a good what for this year.  But that is life.

Judging by the replies and views, there sure is alot of passion and interest in Region 3. I will go out on this: Watching the 3A-3 the last 4 years at regionals, the thing that impresses me the most is the depth that these teams have. Osceola had 9-10 guys that they rotated in and out without missing a beat. I believe 13 different players scored. Same deal with Riverside last year.I guess it speaks volumes about these schools basketball programs.   Yellville has the numbers, but didn't really have a guy to go in take the place of our injured point guard. When the other 3 starters got into foul trouble (especially our big post guy), Yellville had kids to put in, but not quite ready for that level. Probably having a school enrollment about half of some of these schools doesn't help matter. So 2A here we come!

Wasn't  so easy for the Noles tonight. If Valley hadn't missed a couple rebound opportunities the outcome could have easily gone the other way. Fun game to watch as these 2 battled it out. Congrats noles. I hope you enjoy your cupcake.
Too bad they didn't. Oh well maybe next time. No I'll let you have my cupcake since you are kinda sad and salty about that lost last night. It's okay bubba....EASY!! WORK!!!!

Sorry but what made you think that Osceola would be playing Manila Saturday. Smh. Not this time.

And We Lamar get to play one of them after laying an egg tonight.  Been wanting to see Riverside play all year so I gotta feeling that's why.

Lady Rebels weren't on top of their game last night but they were very impressive in coming from 14 down to beat a good Melbourne team by 8 on their home floor. Held Melbourne to 8 points in the second half.

MV. 52-49

Hoxie blew this game. Led by 8 with 3 minutes left. Hoxie's lack of guard play hurt them badly late in the game. However, they still could have won but missed a gimme layup with 7 seconds left that might have won the game anyway.

We didn't show up, plain & simple. Give Colts credit, they did. Explain to me, WHO IN THE HECK, did Valley play all year to win 27-28. Its every year with them, until they revamp & dial up a way tougher schedule, I predict they will always be pretenders.

Who on here was pumping them up so much? I watched them play in one game and knew they weren't a contender. The Drew Central win was impressive I'll give them that.

You're so worried about them being overrated, take it up with Max Preps and the Gazette.

Also pretty sure they have a lot more ships than Manila and even more recent too.

Im not behind a screen, every one in the gym knows who I am. I'm not blaming the kids, coaches fault for not getting a stronger schedule. Anyone who really knows me, knows I would do anything for any kid. Probably need to move to track & field board, a little to sensitive for this one.

Osceola never really turned up the pressure, didn't want to take a chance of a whistle happy ref. Valley did play well & shot extremely well 1st half, but Noles were playing more passive pressure to wear them down.

Who do these teams play all year to rack up 19-25 wins???
Far be it from me to defend Valley, you keep talking this trash repeatedly in this thread.  One victory was against Corning out of your district who was 19-8 going into your own district tournament. 2 wins against us who you dissed at 19-10 before we played Osceola, and we could note you guys who are going to be the 3 seed coming out of regionals because you lost to a team that was like 9-13 before districts started and who got destroyed by Osceola by 30 last week.  Basketball is crazy and streaky.  Clinton sent Osceola packing last year and I bet none of you expected that.  They obviously went and played Drew Central and won and gave their best shot against Osceola and came up short.  They obviously didn't show up to play you guys tough today.

Other than playing your required pod schedule including Brookland and Westside and some decent small schools like Armorel and Buffalo Island, you guys played in a Christmas tournament that got you 2 games against large competition out of Memphis and Springdale.  So pipe down Francis and enjoy your 3rd place finish at regionals, while coming in at a 1 seed. Though I will admit a little bit of enjoyment at your putting Valley in their place yesterday.  You guys make it hard to root for you though, when you all get so smarmy about stuff.  Before another week is out, you will probably be just like us, concentrating on baseball season.

Probably a little of both. It seems Rivercrest always plays better as the year goes on cause they are always late out of football. In Manila's case if the game is in the 50's or low 60's it seems they lose. Who knows tho lol.

Yea, they were tight cheeks in the first half.  Clearly getting out played.  The were lucky to be tied at half and not down by 16 or more thanks to J.D foul trouble and my favor referee uncle Curtis.  I believe RC push the lead to 11 before Oscela help came only.  2 half RC started playing to fast and Osceola made them pay for it.

It was a back and forth game all night but Mt View made some plays late to secure the victory. I tip my hat to the Mt View coach. They had a great game plan to counteract the things the Lady Rebels do well and had the players to execute it. Looked like they had been working on a plan for Riverside for more than a day or two lol!

I'd say our Warriors got their work cut out for them

Lady Rebels have definitely played their way into a tougher bracket! I'm looking forward to that first round game with Lamar. Should be a good one.

Well prepared for the full court pressure too.
I'd like to see the Lady Rebels shooting percentage, it was low. Mostly from driving and throwing up wild underhand layups.  Looked similar to the Regional loss last year.

It's sad, when Riverside girls lose, everyone looks at the bad instead of the negative! Last year was last year. Why bring up the past? I know this is an open forum to anyone, but come on people, winning isn't everything and kids are kids. Yes,im especially upset!!

I'd personally rather them lose in Regional finals than the first round of state. Maybe this loss will help them moving forward in State. I figure that was a wake up call for those couple of Seniors that they have to bring it every night regardless of their opoonent. Huge props to Mt View though.  Very solid team and should make a great run!

I'm assuming you mean positive and not negative in your post but I'm not sure. I mean they've only lost twice now so it couldn't have happened much! That's just the nature of the game. When there is a loss people try to figure out why they lost and break the game down. It's nothing negative towards the girls, they played hard. A Regional runner-up is a nice accomplishment. The only reason the past was brought up was because of how they lost. Game plan looked a lot like it. But if things go according to plan(they rarely do this time of year) then the Lady Rebels will have a chance at redemption when it really counts!
And Baller21, that wouldn't be a personal thing for you to have rather lost in the finals of the region rather than the first round of state! I'm pretty sure that would be every Rebel fan out there.

Same with Lamar layed an egg against a good ctown team.  Just haven't been playing with any intensity lately. Well time to put up or shut up.   Needed to win Regionals but we didn't. So Riverside it is!

Well why don't you tell us the proper game plan General Lee. I'm sure the coach would LOVE to have your whole 2 cents worth. heck maybe UCONN or TENN will hire you down the road!!!

MV mercy-ruled Melbourne a week ago at Valley. . . The same Melbourne that Riverside had to battle with, granted it was at Melbourne.

Only two losses all season and they beat Melbourne, Hoxie, and Riverside, all in the top 5, all in the span of 8 days, but please keep saying how Riverside had an off night instead of giving MV their dues.

They only scored 43 points and I'm not a Riverside person but I bet they probably average about 70 a game. So I'd say they had an off night.

Of the teams the MV has played this season, 11 have winning records. Only 9 of Riverside's opponents do, and two of them are by only one game.

Of Riverside's schedule, only six opponents are still playing in the post-season, including MV, Hoxie, and Melbourne. Of MV's, 10 are still playing: the three from Region 3, Two Rivers (region winner), Harding Academy (region winner), Rose Bud, Bald Knob, GCT,  Riverview, and Star City.

Of course Riverside is going to put down 80 against teams like Armorel and Piggott.

Not to mention, MV has beat every 3A team they have played including 7 in the tournament this week.

C'mon now . . .

Yed props to MV for playing an excellent game.  Our girls have to stick with what they know and what works for them and wins their games.  5 in and 5 out..

I agree that riverside had trouble scoring because of MV defense, they are hard to get to the basket on. I thought MV would be favored by about 6 going into the game, but I wouldn't blame it on scheduling. Unless I'm looking at it wrong on maxpreps Riverside has played 18 games against teams with winning records and MV has played 15 games against teams with a winning record, but Riverside gets to play more games being a non football school so they can have a few easier games in there and still have a tough schedule. MV has a MUCH tougher conference schedule. Sometimes teams can't help it when there are weaker teams on their schedule especially when they are conference games. I'm sure playing 3 win Newport and cedar ridge or 0 win Wynne was not a great help for MV but they had to play them anyways. It would be great to see these two teams matchup again in the finals.

No doubt about it, Riverside played in probably the weakest combined conference in the state. Nobody, 3A or 4A, from that conference made state except the Lady Rebels. Nothing the Lady Rebels could do about that. They will have a chance to redeem themselves starting Wednesday!

They played Hoxie in a non conference game, but Hoxie isn't in their conference for regular season. Brookland was the only standout team in their combined conference this year.

No dog in the fight.. Watched the girls game with riverside v. Mv.  Great game.. Both deserved to win, unfortunately one had to lose.. Would love to see a rematch with the title on the line. #3 from Mv can flat out go! Great game by two very good, well coached teams! If these two play 10 times.. I wouldn't be surprised at all by 5-5 split! Great ball being played by both teams.. Looking forward to see how it shakes out!!

Thank goodness this combined conference nonsense is over with. If you are in a district, then you should play each other at least once before the district tournament.
