I would definitely list Horatio in top 10, probably around 4-7. They will have losses to some of the 4A schools in their combined district but if they continue to play the kind of ball they have played so far, they will be a very tough out in postseason.
Pretty happy with it

You'd be a lot more accurate if you had Smackover in the top 3. This team is loaded, and will be for the next 3-4 years. One of the few teams in this part of the state in any classification that is this strong hitting top to bottom. Two GOOD Senior pitchers, and an excellent defense behind them. It will be a true disappointment if they don't make a strong run for a state title this year. IMO

Mallory is going to UCA as an invited walk-on. Not many scholarships to hand out for girls.
Lady Bucks beat Junction City 6-0 to lock in 1st place and an outright conference championship. Don't let the score fool ya. Coach Steele let all the Seniors play through the 5th inning on Senior Night. Our normal lineup only starts three Seniors. Mallory Brewer pitched a complete game, one hit shutout.
Such a great group of girls. Mallory is the real deal.

She is going to school at UCA. Was invited to try out as a walk on. Never said she was offered anything, nor did I mean to imply that. Not that an offer is out of the question, but for now she at least wants to tryout. As of now she is playing softball at Smackover.

Haynes. Probably in the 50-55 range. She's good on mixing up her pitches and keeping hitters off balance. Very good control.
Brewer. 60-65. Generally gets stronger the longer she's in. Very good control and a good change-up.

We will find out this week. 2 or 3 years ago they lost in the regional finals, but took care of business in the state tournament. For the most part, several people counted Bald Knob out since they lost 3 great players. They have a lot of talent that returned, and know how to win close games. Honestly, I just try to get a "rise" out of folks on winning the state tournament. They may not even make it out of regionals, but they are very good. Realistically, probably one of the top 4 or 5 in 3A, but to win it all, you have to be the best every game pretty much from here on out.
Yeah and you have to have a ball or two bounce the right way. Well BK didn't need that last year they were unstoppable.
Atkins is a pretty set team, they have 2 decent pitchers, but their batting is awesome when they get a hold of the ball and in the zone. They have great coaching also. They are a hit when they are playing the game they know how to play.
Clinton is also coming around. They've played a lot of bigger schools during regular season, and that has prepared them for post season. They were on fire at district and I can't wait to see how they play at Regionals.

Pretty sure they did.
Yeah. And then they played GC in the second round and lost.. I believe.
You are correct sir. And then I believe they lost in the consolation game to be the 4 seed going into state and had to play Finley and company.
Bald knob played a nonconference game today at highly ranked Hector....and beat them 15-2...

I'm guessing, by that statement, that BK has won their region. If so, the only way Smackover could meet up with them would be the championship game. If we are fortunate enough to make it to Lady Back field, I hope we have a chance to make you eat those words.

You had me double checking too. I thought I had it studied pretty good until I saw your initial post. Had we lost to Horatio, we most likely would have faced BK in the second round. These girls have worked hard to get where they are. It would be very fitting if we could have a chance to knock BK off the throne in Fayetteville.

They definitely have worked hard. Steele is doing a darn good job with them. Conference champs, district champs, regional champs and riding a 25+ game winning streak. I hope they do get their shot!
They have all had their chance over the past 3+ years. No need to feel confident now. There have been A LOT of good teams attempt to beat them over the past 3 years, and none were successful. Why should we not assume it will be the same result this year?
Supposedly, Rose Bud was gonna overthrow BK! Hasn't happened. HHG, nope! BK is just on a different level than other 3A softball teams. Good luck though to the rest of the field...they're gonna need it.
What was the BK vs RB final score please?? Never mind I found it, 4-0..
Last three years do not matter now. This is a new year. I understand that you have confidence in the team. I just hope Smackover will meet up with Bald Knob at Lady Back stadium. :)
Ok look, I've tried the obnoxious jerk attitude for a few posts now, and nobody is biting. Truth is, Bald Knob is good, but not the team of the past 3 years. I just was hoping to see some hard rebuttal to my over the top posts. Anyway, that's the 2nd time this season I've tried to stir the discussion and it hasn't worked at all. In reality, there are 5-6 teams that have a legit shot at the state title. Bald Knob is one of them, but it will be no cakewalk I can assure you. When Humes, Duncan, and Camp were there, maybe so, but now it's gonna take some luck and maybe some good teams to lose along the way.
Ok now that FNL got that out of the way. The Lady Buckaroos have played well the whole season while facing less than great competition. Now that they are playing better competition they are proving that they are not just winning games because of the lack of competition. Pitching is so huge in softball, this year the Bucks have it and I haven't seen many teams that have better. Actually the best pitchers we have faced this year in no real order are. Phelps from PC (probably the best), the girl from Taylor, and the girl from Horatio. That is it. Last year in the state tournament I only saw 1 team with a pitcher better than ours and that was BK. She is gone now. The bats for Smack got better also.

Looks like a potential match-up between Rose Bud and Smackover in the second round. If we both make it through the first round, and we can get past Rose Bud, maybe that will earn us a little more respect than just beating Horatio.
White Chicken. I don't know if you have seen Centerpoint play, but I would put their pitching up there with the top three we have faced. IMO they looked better to me pitching wise than GC or Fouke. El Dorado's pitcher, Hargett I think, was pretty good too.
I have seen almost every game this year for the Lady Bucks and I would not put centerpoints pitcher in the top. If I had to round out my top 5 it would go the pitcher from Mcgehee then the JC pitcher 4-5. But that is just my opinion.

Leave the analyzing to the experts(or self proclaimed experts) and celebrate the girls accomplishments. Just ;D ;D ;D a little every once in a while.
Umpires down south are not good. There are some that are poor up north but almost all down south are just bad.
There goes big K with the smileys again...haha.
Safe to say, ordering the rings for Bald Knob this year would have saved a lot of time and money. Rose Bud or Harmony Grove might have had a say in it, but rest assured, never was Smackover a serious threat! By the way, it's still not too late to go ahead and crown BK! You would think 4 in a row would get old, but it doesn't!

Smackover has the talent to be a threat. I know this is coming from a homer. I think the stage was too big for us, having not gotten past the first round in the last few trips to state, and then running into a Rose Bud team that had been there, done that, bought the t-shirt etc. A lot of the parents, who are around the summer travel ball circuit, knew that the lack of competition during the regular season would likely bite us in the end. We just don't have the girls, in this part of the state, that are Open/A-Class tournament team players. They have the capability, but when you are not used to seeing it, it is a level of competition that cannot be duplicated when you don't face it until you get to state. Until we can start facing some tougher opponents towards the end of our regular season, we are going to continue to play down to the level of our competition. And then when we get to state, it will be the same old song, we'll only be able to say that we were just glad to be here.
Good Luck to both Bald Knob and Rose Bud for a well deserved re-match.

You are spot on. BK faces the same scenario in football it seems. We are a strong 2 seed in the state playoffs usually, but because of the strength of other divisions in 3A, it shows in the playoffs.

I would like to see us travel out of the state to play some closer teams that are pretty good. I know it's hard to do sometimes and it's definitely costly.. But that would definitely help out.
Going to LA would be great but they won't play because of the point system they have. All the other states would be way to far. Unless it was a tournament close to texarkana. With everyone only having to play the 4a schools once next year that will give us 4 more games to try and find some more competition.

The girls went to Florida with the boys... What teams did they play up there?
The blended conferences have really messed things up. Normally Taylor and Smackover play each other home and home but this year they didn't. This would be a great late season match-up for both teams every year to help prepare them for the state tournament. Also, having conference teams forfeit both games cost you a chance to schedule stronger teams. Those forfeit games count on your total for the year.
PB they played some team from Texas twice. From what I heard they weren't very good.

Dierks was the team to forfeit?
Not in our conference. Nevada twice and I think Lafayette County one time.

How'd that work out for you?
I'm sure Rose Bud would take them off his hands for a huge discount

Not very well for the BK girls, that's for sure. They weren't the best team when they had to be, RB was definitely the better team when it counted the most. BK will have to wait til next year to try to win #4. They already got their rooms reserved at Fayetteville for next year, so that's a plus...
