Food for thought......
Newport 28  Rivercrest 14
Osceola  25  Rivercrest 28
Newport 14  Osceola  41
Newport 6    McGeehee 20
Junction City 64 Mcgeehee 38
No. 1 seed        No. 2 seed
Junction City     Mcgeehee
Rivercrest         Osceola
Only one undefeated team, Junction City, who's not playing at the top of their game. They always seem to find a way to win. Can they be beat, yes. They are their worst enemy. One thing for sure they don't give up whether winning or losing. This will be one of the best semifinals played. Good luck to these four teams and safe travels.....
Junction City
Osceola
Mcgeehee
Rivercrest
Who will be at War Memorial?

Jimbo Morphis

JC can't beat Osceola.  Stupid penalties end their season this Friday.

THA TRUTH

15 or more penalties against Osceola and it won't be a contest.... Jc can win but it's gonna take a big game on the Defensive side of the ball

That could certainly be true, but what if they do play a good game with few penalties? Not saying it will happen but it is a possibility. Junction has some very good RB's so I wouldn't count them out just yet.....

dragondad

In the three games JC struggled the most in, the penalty/play ratio was .2 or higher; Lake Village  .2:1 , HA  .228:1 ,  Clinton  .227:1

In all other games the ratios were  .17:1 or less.

Coltfan2005

you would have to be dumb or 501 to count JC out at this point.

Was really underwhelmed with the way JC played defensively friday.  Still think this is such a shell of what JC teams used to be.  Flying up field against Clinton could've easily gotten them beat.  Just not very sound.  Loaded with good players, but not playing very sound on either side.  I think JC's run ends this week, but I could be way off.  They definitely have the horses to play with and beat anybody in this league.

Even with all the stupid penalties Junction has some decent stats. They've played with brilliancy at times and some arrogant stupidity at others. For sure they have the talent and they possess the will to win. If they play to their ability I'd say they win....

So CalPreps has Osceola by 3
USA Today has Osceola by 5
Hootens has Osceola by 7

I like it when JC is picked to lose,  puts that extra fire in our guys.

Now this is a true Arkansas football semifinal.

17 state titles combined.
91 conference championships combined.
103 total playoff appearances combined.
183 total playoff wins combined.

Great final four.

Best of luck to the Colts and Owls.

and how many in 3A?

Lots of history for all 4 programs. Rivercrest and JC have the most the last 10 years. Good to see Mcgehee back in the hunt.

Only one I know for sure is and six for sure aren't.

The rest are back in the 90's, 80's and 60's so somebody at three of the four schools would have to confirm the classifications at the time of those titles.

AW summed it up pretty well and isn't as picky as you are.

In the last 10 years, that would be 6 and one school has 5 of those.

Win, lose or draw, preparing for an Arkansas high school football game to be played in December is special.  Good luck to all four.

Wasn't being picky. One of the Colt's isn't and I don't think any of Osceola's are 3A. Was wondering how many actually in 3A.

Are any at a higher level?

one of Rivercrests was at 4A and at least one of Osceola's was at 4A.  But the conf's were so different back then sometimes it's hard to tell.

Junction's six state football titles were all in 2A.  (2003, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014)

There was another WMS trip in 2006 but lost that one 20-19.

This fascination with which class the current final four 3A schools won their previous state championships in is a little confusing to me.  Higher or lower, the assumption is the school was property placed by the AAA and they were competing against their peer group when they won their respective state titles.

I assume that would be true for three of the four teams in this year's 3A final four. I know it's not the case for one of the teams.   As was discussed in another thread, a change in the way the Arkansas Education Department transmitted data to AAA caused the AAA to place Junction in 3A for 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 when Junction's student count should have kept them in 2A.  It almost happened again for 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 but an appeal was filed and accepted by AAA.

Power ratings don't win championships, but if one puts any faith in Calpreps power rating, the error is something the current final four 2A schools are probably grateful for.

Junction  34.4
Mt Ida     27.7
Harmony 20.6
Earle       19.6
Foreman  19.0

Maybe that's why they moved JC up to 3A. Just to give the rest of 2A a chance to breath for a few years.

;D

The truth is it was a procedural math error as a result of miscommunication between AAA and ADE.  One that the AAA wasn't real anxious to admit they didn't pick up on.  When it happened a second time, the JC administration was a bit more persistent.

This year's Dragon team would have been pretty salty back where they belonged.  Last year's Dragons, not so much.

I'll give you that one.  Calpreps had the 2016 Dragons power rated at 6.10.  That would have put them 7th in their final 2016 2A poll with little or no difference between 4-5-6-7.

http://calpreps.com/2016/ratings/Arkansas_division.htm

I guess I was trying to be too diplomatic.  I think the 2017 would have easily made the 2A WMS game and been a favorite to win it.

I think their formula is supposed to be classification neutral.

The 2016 team would still have had the Haynesville and England losses but probably would have had wins where they lost to Fordyce and Rivercrest.  Of course they might have also had a regular season bye or two because of the 2A teams that have a tendency to fold mid-season.

Hey, at least this year the Dragon team has another chance to prove what it can do "playing up."  The rest of the prior year teams can only debate it on a message board.

If they don't consider the classification of opponents, that is a huge defect in the system. E.g., losing to a 5-5 5A team is far different from losing to a 2A team with the same record.

I completely admire JC for playing in a classification they shouldn't be in and still competing. These coaches and players could have a lot of excuses but aren't making them.
