Frustrating loss. Trying to pitch to this lineup is just impossible. If it's not Tex, it's Damon, or Posada, or Cano... I know I'm pretty overmatched here, but it still kills me to lose to these clowns.

I don't feel like posting box scores.

Game 5: L, 3-1

Oh well. I hate losing but the Yankees are clearly the best team on the game. I need to work on my roster and get some better players in there. Time for the off-season.

The Mets also beat the Giants in 5 in the NLCS.

In the Subway Series the Mets put away the Yankees in 5 games. :D

They fixed the age thing on 2K9 but on MLB 2K8 players would retire due to age at like 35 and 36.  I don't understand why baseball games don't realize this problem and fix it.  I still have some guys that suck retire due to age at like 37ish, but never guys with superstars or even just every day players retire because of age at like 37.

Off-season roundup:

Red Sox

11/22 - traded SP Dice-K Matsuzaka and 3B Mike Lowell to Colorado for SS Troy Tulowitzki

11/23 - re-signed C Taylor Teagarden to a 6/11.17M contract

12/3 - signed C/1B Victor Martinez to a 5/30M contract
       - signed LF Carl Crawford to a 5/50 contract

12/7 - released SS Charles Best
re-signed LF Jason Bay to a 6/80M contract

12/8 - re-signed RP JA Happ to a 6/4.18M contract
       - re-signed RP Ramon Ramirez to a 5/12M contract
       - re-signed SP Clay Buchholz to a 7/30M contract
       - re-signed SS Brendan Harris to a 3/2M contract

12/12 - did not tender a contract to 1B Jeff Bailey, making him a FA

12/19 - re-signed SP Josh Beckett to a 5/70M contract

12/20 - re-signed CF Jacoby Ellsbury to a 5/65M contract

12/23 - re-signed RP Randor Bierd to a 2/550K contract

1/20 - released SS Jed Lowrie
signed SS Alcides Escobar to a 4/5.15M contract

2/6 - re-signed CF Rocco Baldelli to a 1/1.62M contract

2/8 - RP Hideki Okajima awarded 1M in arbitration

2/9 - CP Jon Papelbon awarded 10M in arbitration
RP Manny Delcarmen awarded 800K in arbitration

2/11 - RP CJ Wilson awarded 812K in arbitration

2/23 - released SS Ron Bonilla
renewed the contract of 1B Chris Davis for 500K

2/28 - renewed the contract of SP Michael Bowden for 450K

This is what I would call a successful off-season. All those trades I made last year getting good young talent for older players also cleared a ton of payroll, which allowed me to go out and spend a little bit. I'm thrilled to have Tulo at SS now. Looking forward to getting spring training going soon.

RHS

Paps got 10 million? I'd laugh if that was the real life thing.

Tulo at SS is great. Crawford in the OF is nice as well. You've got a ton of speed at the top (if you bat him 2nd) with him and Ellsbury. Throw in Bay and you've got a stacked OF, IMO.

Yeah, that's what the arbitrator decided.

Quote from: RHS on September 28, 2009, 02:02:21 pmTulo at SS is great.

It's going to be nice having some stability at SS now. Last season I started Lowrie, Lugo, and Harris off and on during different parts of the season.

I'm going to have to really think hard about how my lineup will be 1-9, but I plan on having Crawford in LF, Ellsbury in CF, and Drew in RF. Since Bay is slower than all three I'm putting him at DH.

Scratch that. I realized with that lineup I wouldn't be able to fit in Chris Davis anywhere, so I decided to trade JD Drew and get some help in the bullpen. Drew is 34 anyway.

Boston Red Sox receive: RP Manny Corpas, RP Mel Kessler (19 year old prospect)

Colorado Rockies receieve: JD Drew, CJ Wilson

I threw Wilson in there to get them to accept the deal because that was a pretty highly valued pitching prospect. Plus, Wilson was my worst reliever to begin with.

Are CPU controlled teams capable of making good decisions when it comes to making trades?

Are CPU controlled teams capable of making good decisions when it comes to making trades?

I've had my fair share of rip-offs, but this one wasn't that bad for Colorado. Drew is still a good hitter. I just don't have any room for him in my lineup, and it would be better for me to have Baldelli as my 4th OF than Drew (1M vs 4M salary) so I strengthened my bullpen in the process.

AB™

Yeah, that trade isn't terrible for either team, but I know some of the ones you pulled off during the season were rip offs.

msubulldogs21

I've been playing a little bit of spring training, but I simmed the rest and I'm ready to go for the 2010 regular season. The schedule is obviously different but I'm playing the NL East again, only this time I have the Nationals twice opposed to last year playing the Braves twice. J'Lo, for your 2010 schedule are you playing AL Central again? I was hoping to play either the NL Central or NL West. Oh well.

bulldogs1159

I ended up playing most of the spring on mine and I just finished it up. I freaking have the AL Central again this year. I play the Royals, the Twins, and the White Sox at home and I play at the Indians and Twins.

msubulldogs21

That leads me to believe we will be playing the same division during interleague every season. I wish they would've switched it up.

AB™

Haha!  I found something out that 2K9 has that's better!  ;D

I played the AL East in year one and I believe I'm playing the AL Central this year.  I know it's a small victory for my crappy game but I'll take it.

2K9 should make a mission statement: "Closing the gap, one interleague series at a time"

Good to get the season started on the right foot. Beckett was awesome and got the CG SO. Carl Crawford added a 2 run HR in his Red Sox debut.

Also, I forgot to mention this but I picked up Willy Aybar off waivers before the season started. I have no idea why the White Sox signed him in the off-season only to put him on waivers, but I was glad to get him. He's a solid player and has an awesome contract, 3/900K. Nice having a good bench guy who can play INF and OF too.

Back in the saddle. I made a few moves recently:

Boston Red Sox receive: LF Ryan Braun, LF Sanford Crowe (AAA)

Milwaukee Brewers receive: LF Jason Bay, RF Rocco Baldelli

I also called up Brendan Harris from AAA Pawtucket to fill out my 25th roster spot after the trade.

Bitter that you took advantage of me while playing the game for only the 2nd time ever? Nah, not me. LOL

Thoughts:

I didn't expect Victor Martinez to be so bad, although we're only a month in. Fortunately my #1 prospect Livan Costello has played really well, and I've pretty much been platooning him with V-Mart lately. Depending on how things go I may make Costello an everyday starter at 3B, and move Youkilis to 1B. Costello is only 19 years old.

I don't get how some of the guys in my lineup have so few home runs. Tulo with just 1, Davis with 3, Youkilis with 0, and Martinez with 0. Weird.

My rookie #5 SP Michael Bowden has been hit and miss. He has alternated good/bad starts in each game so far. Hopefully he can get more consistent as I don't really have another SP who could fill in right now outside of JA Happ, and he has struggled out of the 'pen.

18-6 is a nice start a month into the season. I just had a 10 game winning streak snapped by Texas 2 games ago.

Wow. Wow. Wow. That was one of the all time great games I have ever played.

First off, I'm down 6-0 in the 1st before I ever even get a chance to bat. Fast forward to the 6th, when I'm down 9-2. Didn't think the odds of coming back and winning were that good right then. In the 7th Youkilis hit his 1st homer of the season to cut the lead to 9-6. In the 8th I made 2 quick outs, followed by a Youkilis single, Costello single, and then Taylor Teagarden hit a 3 run shot to tie it up 9-9. In the 9th Manny Corpas gave up back to back solo homers to start the inning, so naturally I was mad, especially since I worked so hard to tie it up. In the bottom of the 9th the Rangers brought on Frank Francisco to close it out, and with 1 out Pedroia singled. Tulowitzki then comes up and hits a towering 2 run bomb to tie it up 11-11. (At this point there is major fist pumping occurring) Next up is Ryan Braun, who hits a walk off home run into the Red Sox bullpen right out there by the triangle. It cleared the wall by about 2 feet. Red Sox win 12-11. What. A. Game.

I'm also probably going to send Michael Bowden back down to AAA and explore some trades for a 5th starter because I pretty much don't have one. Bowden has really been struggling and I'm not sure it's going to work out.
