Bad teams

This must be the worst year ever in high school basketball. A large percentage of the games invoke the mercy rule.

I truly believe its the laziness of the generations. Kids don't go outside and play or use imaginations out in the yard anymore. Its all video game this, and ipad that, and let me grab my phone. It's sad. Used to, they'd tell you to shoot 1,000 shots a day to be a good shooter. You'd have to get extra shooting in after practice just be an average shooter. Now days, spend a few hours after school and it will make you an above average shooter. It breaks my heart, but I fear what you're seeing now has been coming down the pipe for a while.

Shooting has gotten consistently weaker over the last 20 plus years.

I'd just be happy if kids could still hit layups....

I've coached many teams over my career. I have chewed kids out for missing layups in warm ups and warm ups looking like crap. I have benched starters for not going hard in warm-ups, only to be met by parents wondering why I am complaining about warm-ups. "Its warm-ups coach!"

I agree that free-throws and layups cost games. The Free-Throw has become hard shot to hit for kids. And I've noticed that kids either want to penetrate for layups or shoot threes. There is no inbetween. No midrange game.

maybe kids should watch tim duncan highlights instead of curry. Mid-range is a lost art.

Are we talking about pros or 15 to 18-year-olds? I apologize for stepping onto y'alls lawn. I will back away slowly before you turn the sprinklers on, on me.

Haha this thread is cracking me up. I love it when old-timers talk about how much better it was in their day. Here's some reading material: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosy_retrospection

The game is played much faster today than it used to be. Because of this kids are approaching the goal at a much higher speed. This makes it more difficult toss the ball softly off of the backboard. Causing more misses.

Heard a coach put it like that one time and thought it made sense.

It is the weight lifting.  Kids are to strong and shoot the ball to hard. ???

Just kidding I see more kids spending more time on one sport.  A lot of them are playing basketball year around.  I think there is some relation to the 3 point shot and the loss of the mid-range shot.  I also notice a lack of using the backboard for shots.  They ought to remove that box off the backboard.
There is some really good basketball being played if you take the time go watch a few games.

Funny you say that.  Seems Arkansas AAU teams compete on a high national level every year.
