With the 2018-2020 reclassification being released earlier this month it sparked an interest in me as to what schools have grown and what schools have gotten smaller. This is a list of the schools that are currently competing in the 2-A classification and their enrollment numbers that were used in the 2008-2010 reclassification compared to their enrollment numbers that were used in the 2018-2020 reclassification. I could not find enrollment numbers for the bottom two schools in 2008

Nice job compiling this together.... This kind of stuff is always fun to look at. Those top 5 declines really jumped out there and are quite a big loss of student population. Mountainburg and Decatur also stand out too because they are near close by population boom in NW Arkansas and should not be losing students like that but are.

I didn't say that it was necessarily a bad thing, but it has hurt a lot of schools.

Yep several kids I went to school with or still know in Clarendon flew the coop to Hazen with their own kids.

Tough to say that Mountainburg is at the edge of the NWA boom. They are in a weird spot...kind of the end of the River Valley and start of NWA, but too far away from Fayetteville to really feel the affects of that growth yet. I mean Mountainburg is about 31 miles south of Fayetteville with Greenland and West Fork in between.

Decatur I agree with.

Contrary to popular belief  it's not about sport's if your not growing you are in trouble in our part of the world. Oh and what our football and basketball teams won't be any good , big news we are already there. So why would my mind change?

Quite a few of Poyen's  increase are school choice, many from Sheridan.

Rison board just approved 39 incoming school choice transfers for next year, vs. only 3 out. A big part of the incoming are from Watson Chapel. Sounds like Rison is going to stay solidly in 3A for a while after teetering between 2A and 3A the last few cycles.

Palestine-Wheatley's jump is interesting. I'm assuming that it is largely school choice as well. Have to look at what schools are close enough to PW for folks to jump. Brinkley?

I believe a large amount of PW's increase is from school choice out of Forrest city.

PW gets a lot of kids from Forrest city,  many of those kids are kids that would end up at Lee academy in Marianna. We get kids from Lee county , and we have a few kids from the Brinkley area but not as many as people think.

MomaLion

I think most of Brinkley's kids went to McCrory.  We lost a ton to Marvell Academy and some to Hazen.  Add to that the fact that so many kids now have divorced parents living in different cities...the kids bounce wherever they want to be at that particular moment.
