January 23, 2011, 08:55:54 pm #100 Last Edit: January 23, 2011, 10:17:33 pm by RATTLER43
I will add Karl Koonce from LH and John Mackey from Mansfield. Tom McMurray from Alma and Bruce Dunlap from JC Westside are great as well. Each of these consistently produces winners.

AT

I'm going to be biased too, but Coach McMurray from Alma

7 straight conference championships and 3 5A state championships (well one of them was 4A at the time)

vtown22

staying biased....Michael Stout at Vilonia now..won a couple titles and runner ups in Lafayette County and Stamps...Helping to put Vilonia on map now

+++1 for Coach Stout

~WPS~

Who are the top 5 in the state at each event.  I'll do some research.

RATTLER43

Break it down per classification.

Irwin is over 17' in PV. Mt. Ida

~WPS~

It will take me a day or two but Ill get it

RATTLER43

I can throw my kids' bests out there in 2A.

~WPS~

What ill do is take the state meets from last year and remove those who graduated and place the rest in order by thier time at state, it will be about the top 4 or 5 in each class. I will try to get it posted by tomorrow night. Im already done with 7, 6, and 4a.

great work man...i think there are a couple of issues though...pretty sure stage from vilonia, murphy from magnolia, ellis and fletcher from camden were all seniors last year...i may be wrong but don't think so...either way great work

vtown22

also saw where vilonia's crume would be second on this list in 400 and 4th in triple jump...Bowling would be fourth in the 1600...they were juniors last year

I'm just going off what the AAA website said but i checked and you are right, thanks for the help. @ Rattler43 send me a list of your kids that graduated.

~WPS~

If anybody sees someone who should be in there or someone who shouldn't, tell me and i'll fix it

RATTLER43

I lost
Jon Williams, Andy Moua, and Daniel Aydelott  in shot and Discus
Dakota Kohler in PV/Hurdles
Jericho McElroy in 400m
Joseph Thao in 3200m

Do you want my returners and personal bests but who did not qualify for state? Or is that too much info. We are quite loaded for Class AA. We should battle Augusta and others for a title.

AT

As you can see off of the 5A list that Ballplayer supplied, there are alot of Vilonia's and not very many Alma's. This will be a tough year for the Airedales, but I know that Coach Mac already has them working hard.

RATTLER43

If Alma wins it could be Coach Mac's finest job yet.

~WPS~

You can go ahead and give me the best 1 or 2 at each event and ill sort them in.

~WPS~

Between church and the landers award i haven't had much time to do anything tonight but i'll probably have all classes done by sometime tomorrow.

RATTLER43

800m- Travis Williams 2:09

3200m- Travis Williams 10:47, Churxa Yang 11:28
110HH- Long Yang 17:04
300IH- Long Yang 43.29

Will give others as they compete this year. We should be really strong in discus and hurdles as my underclassmen are really coming on. Our relays will be better than ever as well. Getting revved up again.

RATTLER43

Thanks for all the hard work. I love this kind of stuff.

So when you consider, Western Grove has now taken in Bruno-Pyatt and St. Joe as part of their team and still fall into the 1A by numbers, will they not be looking a bit more competitive this year with trinity? Or did trinity not have anyone graduate. Western Grove did not have a state competitor graduate, Bruno after getting sixth last year only lost one who got 8 points, and st Joe did not loose one either. It might be a little more interesting. And how about the girls side as well with Omaha not loosing any girls. They will look very good for a outright 1A title.

Trinity only graduated a few, but I think they had a few more coming up. That'll definitely help Western Grove, but I'm not sure if it'll be enough. On the girls side I'm pretty sure Acorn is going to win it, and possibly even run away with it this year. Omaha should be up there in second though along with possibly Armorel.

What has Acorn gained this year that will move them up so quickly with all of Omaha's girls returning? I do realize it will be at Acorn however is that really enough of an advantage to get them in first?

Home advantage. I believe the two years that they did host it around '07 and '08 the boys won it with a much less talented team then they've had in the past.

As for the girls this year. They didn't lose anything, but the younger Jackson girl is a 9th grader this year. She finished 3rd i think in 2A state cross country. As a 7th and 8th grader she won high point winning all 6 events she entered in. She can sprint and run distance, and she is Great in field events. She's about 5'7 and she's only about 3 inches from touching the rim. Plus, I don't see Oden listed for track this year...which means I have a feeling Acorn is about to have all of those young sprinters from Oden's team last year to add with what they already have. Could be wrong though on any of that.

Yeah, allstate in 1997.

I knew Cory personally, he used to go to school in Alma. I wish he had stayed at Alma, lol.

I believe you are leaving a boy out of the 4A 400 Meter Dash by the name of Chance Tanner.  He was District champion in the 7-4a and was State Runner up with around a 49.4 I believe

RATTLER43

Razorback Invitational is going on as we speak. A few good performances by the Hogs so far. Freshman high-jumped 7'  Braddy is looking good. Niit had some good runs. Caleb Cross did not. Hoping for more good stuff today.

Grace ran a fantastic 3000!

Razorbacks from Arkansas on the Men's track team update

Neill Braddy (Southside) - has had a nice freshmen season as Rattler said. He has got PRs in the 60, 200, and 400 meter dashes. (6.99, 21.56, 47.58 respectively)

Sam Ewing (Lake Hamilton) - Sam has had a disappointing season thus far. He Pole vaulted 17 ft and 1 inch as a high school senior, but has only got 15-1 so far this year. He still has a lot of time to fulfill his potential, though

Cameron Efurd (Rogers) - He probably hasn't lived up to his expectations, he was a star in high school, but he hasn't had a chance to get his feet wet. He graduated in 09 from high school, but is still a freshmen track eligibility wise. He ran 4:23 in the Mile indoor, but has a PR from high school of like 4:14 I think.

Hunter Bourke (Fayetteville) - A sophomore eligibility wise (graduated in 08, though). He had a good year in the 400 meter hurdles outdoor last season. I don't know if Coach Bucknam expects him to do anything indoor, other than stay in shape. His PR in the 400 indoor is 48.35, but he has only ran 49.15 indoor so far. He also ran a 22.19 in the 200.

Razorbacks from Arkansas on the women's track and field team update

Grace Heymsfield (Elkins) - As Rattler said, Grace has looked great so far. She had a good cross country season, as well. She has run a mile of 5:09.67 so far. Her High School PR is 4:59ish...but remember, that come at the END of the year which is May. It is only January right now. She ran 10:12.34 in the 3000 which is very respectable for a freshmen. I expect big things from her

Kirsten Hesseltine (Har-Ber) - This freshmen high jumper is living up to expectations so far. She has jumped 5-7 already which was her PR (wasn't that a MOC record too?) in high school.

Good to see the home town kids do well on the Hill. Thx for the update.

MHSGrad

Ah, cant you feel it in the air (not now, of course, but the smell is still there)

Here are my predictions for 5A:

Vilonia
Magnolia
Crossett
Camden
Alma

I think the top 3 are set, with Crossett dominating the sprints, they should have a good cushion at 3rd.. Only issue is that their main sprinter can only gain 2 more points than he did last year.. Vilonia, if i remember correctly, is returning 70ish points, whereas Magnolia was in the 30s, and Alma was in the teens.. Magnolia, again, is reloading and will defend that championship.. If you are going to talk about best coaches in the state, why not Coach Brasher? He has two championships as a head coach, 4 as a coach in 5 years at Magnolia.. Since 2005, Magnolia has gone 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 1st .. The reloading we do is amazing, and it all comes down to dedication and heart.. One more thing.. Fields from Magnolia.. This guy is capable of 2:00, 4:30, and 10:00.. he has the guts and determination, he just has to get out there and do it.. They will be strong in the jumps and throws, deep in the sprints again.. Other than fields, tho, distance is lookin thin.. With that said, however, he is the only senior, and we had 3, or 4, 10th or 9th graders running sub 20 minute 5k during XC, so watch out.. Vilonia is the favorite, without a doubt, and if they have their best track meet, they will win.. However, you cant deny the heart of a panther, we come for blood, and nothing but winning is acceptable :).. im ready, im excited for another track season and that state is in Hot Springs!

Almatrackster, you ready to enjoy a season from the bench? Im looking forward to seeing yall at Alma for yalls district meet, you and AB, that is.. Good luck! If yall go to FS Southside's track meet, or any other one in this area, let me know, send me a msg or something, im in Fayetteville now.

oh, and Go Panthers :)

sevenof400

I have to believe with all of the snow in the Fayetteville area, there is a strong possibility that this weekend's HS indoor meet won't happen.  Has anyone heard anything on this?

AT

MHS Grad, I am not ready to see a season from the bench, but I am excited to see how it goes.

I will be going to some meets other than district for sure. It will be interesting to see how Coach Mac does this year...this will be a tough year, but I have confidence he will put together a respectable team.

I'll let you know what meets I go to in the area.

Also, sevenof400, I have been wondering the same thing. It will depend on the temperature for the next two days most likely.

More updates on Arkansas Razorbacks tracksters from Arkansas that I forgot...

Men
Caleb Cross (Newport) - I don't know HOW I forgot about this sophmore hurdler. He has had probably the most success out of all Arkansan team members. He made the SEC finals in the 60 meter hurdles last year as a freshmen, and I think he got 4th place. He almost made the 110 hurdles finals for SEC outdoors, but I think he got disqualified in the prelims for something minor. Here are his personal bests indoor so far...

60m hurdles - 7.78 (8.15 was his best in high school)

He has only had once chance to run this year and got DNF in that one. Hopefully, it wasn't an injury

Jordan Bryant (Conway) - A 2009 high school graduate who is a freshmen eligiblity wise in track. He was a great Arkansas High School 800 runner. I think he was actually a walk-on for the Razorback track team...and may still be? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. He has done pretty good so far this year.

800m - 1:55.65 (1:56 high school PR)

Women
Whitney Jones (Searcy) - I didn't realize she was from Searcy until I looked at the roster. She is a very accomplished runner from Arkansas already. She is apart of the stellar 4 x 4 women's team. Here are some of her PRs

60m dash - 7.54

200m dash - 24.03

400m dash - 53.79

RATTLER43

Whitney was spectacular in high school. One of 10 best female athletes in Arkansas history possibly.
