I'd like to use this thread for local info (like places to eat) as well as overall chatter about the games.

Scores will be on a separate thread each day.  Feel free to start other topics but lets try to gather here for one stop shopping.

Will someone post about what to expect from the city of SILOAM springs ar  and facilities?

Brian G

I'll tell you what I know.

When you come into town on 412 from Springdale there is a Supercenter on the right.  Just past the Super, turn right at the light and go down about a half mile and it's on the left. There is a hospital there to so you know you got the right spot.

The gym is pretty new and has ample seating with most or all chairback.

As far as eating.  You will see a few things right there before you turn.  Otherwise, you would stay on 412 further into town.

They basically have every fast food franchise.  Someone else will need to give you a 411 on local specialties.

Most of the town is congregated along the 412 Hwy.  Probably 10 or so hotels along that same strip to the state line.

Ok thanks looking forward to the trip up from southeast arkansas. Hate this weather though

Brian G

Once you get through the tunnel north of Alma, you're home free.

Another thing, when you go through Siloam and get the state line the world ends there.

If you're stuck or fortunate enough to stay a few days, head back into Fayetteville and there are a lot of places.  Tell me your food preference and I'll steer you there.

Jonesboro came up yesterday, and they weren't originally scheduled to play until Friday on the boy's side. I know they are staying in Bentonville, maybe they can get a scrimmage game against Bentonville for some practice.

itsslim

Sheridan's girls from what I understand. Not sure why the AAA couldn't figure out an alternative solution to work around that though, when the tournament is already behind schedule.

Seriously, weren't they suppose to play the opening game against Jonesboro? It was originally scheduled for Wednesday at 1pm, shouldn't they have been up there on Tuesday?

Sheridan a girls were in Springdale Tuesday, for some reason they left Wednesday morning and now I guess are snowed in.  This weather has put a strain on schools expenses as many teams have been stuck

What if it had just been a one day event, they were going to turn around and drive right back up? Jonesboro has had both teams up there since Tuesday, if our poor school district can afford it, anyone can.

Greenwood and Alma get to play back to back according to the bracket......lines up very well for some.

Very neat smaller town. Very nice revitalized historic downtown area with some neat places to eat, look or walk around and shop some. Very cool area with a little bit of everything. With the weather expected to be nicer over the weekend and early next week it would be a nice area to hang out or go for a walk during the day. Very good trail system that wraps through town and JBU if that's your sort of thing during down time.

As far as eating establishments...obviously there is a lot of fast food and a few other restaurants. If you want a very nice meal I would highly recommend 28 Springs downtown. It a restaurant started by Chef Miles James from James at the mill in Fayetteville area. Its a little pricey but cool atmosphere and great food. If you are in town Friday night or Monday or Tuesday for lunch I would recommend the wooden spoon in Gentry. They are only open Friday nights and Weekday lunches but it is great food and a cool atmosphere. Venetian Inn in Tontitown is a favorite as well. Get the fried chicken and spaghetti and you wont be disappointed. The casino is just across a couple minutes from the high school and apparently has good food as well.

As far as the facilities at Siloam go I will take it a step further than BG...Siloam Springs is very fortunate in that they have great schools and facilities thanks to support from a great community to make it happen. They are not short of nice basketball gyms. The location of the state tournament is at the 4 year old high school. As BG stated...take a right at the FIRST Wal-Mart you see in town. If you take a right at the Neighborhood Market Wal-Mart you will end up at the old high school. Anyway the gym is all chair back seating and as nice of a complete package gym in Arkansas other than Alma. Video boards on both ends of the gym, one of which is huge. Very tall ceiling so the gym feels even bigger than it already is. Great facility for Siloam Springs with a great weight room and theater style film rooms for each lockerroom. Will be a neat environment for the visiting kids as I assume they will be doing their starting lineups with the lights out and their spot lights and all that type of stuff. Hopefully a lot of fans make the trip and it will be a great event for the kids.

Hit me when any specific questions and I can probably answer or get you an answer if I can.

There we go.  I was hoping for someone with more depth about SS.

Definitely a nice and comfortable gym.

Large concession stand on top level too!

Not sure what you consider media friendly but they have multiple scorers tables on both sides at courtside and nice sized filming areas on both sides at the top for filming, etc.  Don't think the media will have any trouble with the accommodations.
