Should be between Gosnell, Pokey, Crest and Westside. Who y'all got and why?
Not Westside, but the other three will no doubt fight it out
Why not Westside? I think WS and Brookland are going to surprise some people. That RB for Westside is a beast
I'll believe it when I see it.

Takes more than a rb to win games. No surprises. I fully expect them to be the 4th and 5th seed.
Colts will win this confs
Rivercrest will take it.
Maybe
We shall see. Gosnell will be tough too.
As will Pocahontas
Guys dont sleep on westside here. They have some good talent moved up. I dont see them winning conference but I see them taking 2nd. I truly think pocky will win conference.

Pokey would have to improve drastically in order to place third in the conf. Westside will slip a little.
Who is Gosnells QB this year? Lasts years graduatesd but idk who is moving into that position.

The last 2 meeting between Pocahontas and Gosnell were decided by 7 points or less. Not sure on Rivercrest yet. All 3 play Paragould.
I'm pretty sure gosnell will start 4 sophomores on the line this year there pretty young again this year

Cave city should beat trumann this yr. Not sure they will beat anyone else.
Cave City will NOT come close to beating Truman this year or for the next two years. If cave City can keep Truman from scoring 40, I guess that will be a moral victory.

Have u seen trumann's team? They are way down. At pad camps they struggled scoring on our scout d. The new coach has his work cut out for him. Mark my words them cavemen will beat trumann. If I could bet I would and u could pay me when we play u. Trumann is down and they have a long way to go. I wish them the best of luck but dont see them winning a game in conference this yr.
Yep, Truman is down. Lost some talent and down to about 24 players. BUT, Cave City is horrible.

I am 100% with this statement. They're best years are behind them and are back on track to rebuilding. Cave City doesn't have any backwoods monsters that will carry them to any wins this year I feel. Trumann may only have a couple wins this year, but Cave City will be one of them
Its going to be a long season for both teams. Fortunately those seasons will only last 10 games.

at the lowest pocahontas will be second in conference, colts however have little idea what they are stepping into this year. shut down the run? we gonna pass over you. shut the pass down thats okay dawson will pull it and take ya ten or fifteen at a time. this season gonna be a good good one in pocahontas. however gosnell gon put up the normal fight..... highland just dont even talk
Rivercrest will be very competitive. Depth is low...if they stay healthy, they'll be right up there towards the top.

I ain't slamming the talent, but in 4A you gotta have more depth than 3A... It won't be a cakewalk
The two front runners are Rivercrest and Gosnell. Pocahontas will have more depth than either of the Mississippi County schools. Westside will be competitive, as will Trumann, but both schools lost a lot of talent with last year's senior classes. Highland will be improved. I think Brookland is next and Cave City is last.
Both the Crest and Gosnell are very thin (numbers wise) both have excellent players and should vie for the top spot. However a significant injury to one or two players at either school could pave the way for Pocahontas to move ahead of either or both.
I will just pray that all of the young men and women (in some cases) all stay healthy this season.

Depth does you absolutely no good without talent but talent can win without depth. Rivercrest will dress out about 36 kids this year, a big boost from the usual numbers in the 20's from a few years ago. Plus, we aren't talking about hanging with the big dogs in 4A. We are discussing the Porch Puppies in this conference. A conf dominated by 3A teams last year.
Speaking of Depth, has anybody seen A roster yet?
HIGHLAND only with 38 as of now, after losing some to injuries so far
I don't think anybody is underestimating the Colts ability to compete and win. I don't think anyone is doubting Gosnell's ability to compete and win. But I can tell you Pocahontas is not going to be a push over. This team is competitive and can win some games. I look forward to seeing these matchups. They will be some very good football games to watch.

as far as comparing pocahontas to the 3a. i dont really care if they are that much better or not they dont play the 3a however i do know how they have and will compete in the 4a which is the conference they have dominated 4 of the last five seasons. this year being one of if not the best put together team in recent memory. at receiver we have depth that is close to the size of rivercrests sideline. most notable one who runs a 4.39 40 and will make any person in nea miss him he has hands like glue and the smarts of a college player. oh and he is all state at his secondary post.and behind him is younger players who without a doubt will be all conf this year .so if we move off that and say somehow (will never happen) and you shut down our pass well then we can bring out the hb in snyder who is 6feet and over 200 pounds of pure muscle and the toughest dude around has hands the size of baseball mitts and arms the size of most 3a players legs and close to untackleable.the colts had better hope and pray and beg snyder to get sick that week. and then we have dawson chester our new qb and yeah yeah he is a sophmore which is great cuz yall gonna let a soph put up 40+ through the air and probs rush 100+ hes super quick can through a mile through a tire and run over linemen knows where to put it before the coach does and is not afraid to lower his shoulder. so please please compare the skins this year to last year please because its not even close. so after u beat paragould and think u have accomplished something and then trumann and ocelola give u a game and yall go down and destroy the worst team around being highland then we will come pay yall a visit and bring a lesson on what redskin football look like. ;)

You are putting a lot of faith in a passing game led by a QB that hasn't played High School football. A receiver that apparently had an off year last year since no receivers on Pokey's team had stats worth even whispering about. And a back that did what? Did he gain over 1,000 yards in 10 games? Did your QB make all state or walk out of Little Rock the MVP of the state championship? Did your defense hold one of the top 10 offensive teams in the state to less than 175 yards total? Your depth is about 10 more players than Rivercrest fields, not exactly mighty numbers. You need to stop begging, stop hallucinating, and go back to band practice. your flute is missed. You've beaten Gosnell twice in the last 5 years, you've won the conf twice in the last five years? Dominated? No.
Sounds like we gettin a little cocky... 3A is different in all aspects: fan base, play style, positional needs, etc. I know that the Redskins are going to be more balanced offensively and the D will be more improved/experienced. And you mention sophmores: they're undefeated since 7th grade. Not saying it's gonna continue, but they got the mentality needed
I didn't realize Rivercrest moved up to 4A.. after watching that Junction City game I don't think they'd have a problem in 7A with all that speed and size.
Not going to argue. The WR that you say had ab off season last year did play QB and passed for almost 2000 and rushed for almost 1500. I don't call that an off season.

Pretty darn close by around 50 yards. Great athlete. My understanding is that he is even better at receiver. Sophomore qb is pretty solid.
pretty solid? pretty solid is no reason to move a passer who threw for 1993 yards.

-Demilon Brown is a better athlete than Devon Adams this has been settled in several track meets this spring.
-The 3A-3 including Rivercrest has a history of beating the best of the 4A-3 teams
-Dawson Chester is not an average Sophmore QB.
-Rivercrest also has Kentavious Robinson and JD Wynda if he didnt transfer
- Pocohontas will finish third in conference
-Baty is under pressure to produce this season and they have a better team this year
- Kimble blowing his ACL in basketball is a big blow to the skins

3. Gosnell
4. Westside
5. Brookland
6. Truman
7. Highland
8. Cave city
Top three will be a dog fight no doubt about any of those teams could switch places with each other, Truman lost a lot, highland is still out in no mans land, Westside will be a strong team and will easily secure the four spot but won't have enough to break the top three, Brookland seems to improve each year, and assuming cave city has no back woods monsters we don't know about it's safe to say they'll take up last in conference
Gosnells run game might be better than last years.. there line looks bigger and there backs have gotten way stronger. However there passing game will take a little bit. There best receiver coming in this year was moved to quarterback and they some inexperienced receivers

Not putting my faith into anything. Just a scrimmage game that had Nettleton's coaching staff and RC's staff and all state rb and qb in attendance for. I am sure it was just scouting. I mean I am sure they need all the data they can get on the future 3rd seed in their conference. Nevermind it was just watch Valley View right. Nobody is doubting RC at all. But its not going to be a cake walk like you believe it to be.

Congrats to Pocahontas! Always good to get it going early. Good sign in a scrimmage/jamboree setting.
Looking forward to seeing that new stadium in Wilson... I've heard it looks huge especially in it's location

The "Cotton Patch" had a ton of tradition, but the facilities in that location were among the absolute worst in the state. It's nice to see the school and players get something nice. Looking forward to Friday nights at "The Tez"
It had to be kinda hard to say goodbye to a place with the vibes the Cotton Patch had... But that new place will be around and probably still see some good days

Thank you. I enjoyed talking with some of the Colts coaches and players at the game. Class act all around. Best of luck at Paragould. I think they will do well. Hopefully their coach won't lose his mind like VV coach did. Lol

Does the colts fan base typically travel well?
Not as well as they could, but much better than most in their prior conf.

Pokey came on strong end of last year. Just handed it to Valley View in a game like scrimmage. Rivercrest got it handed to them last year by Newport who is a former 3 4A foe. Rivercrest also lost their head coach. Not sure they won't finish 3rd. Pokey sophomores have never lost a game as a group along with the juniors when they were all together. Dawson is probably the best qb to come through in a long time. Time will tell but Pocahontas will be 1 or 2.

A lot of this season will depend on who's hot when the "Big Three" (Pocahontas, Gosnell, Rivercrest) play each other. This sophomore class is really ready to win in high school and they proved that they are a threat this year against Valley Very.

"NEW" Head Coach been there over 20 years. Pokey lost 3 of their last 5 games in 2017, how is that coming on hot? Answer that one for me, instead of ignoring it. Your sophomore's have never played High School ball. SO many programs out there bragging on their Jr High records. One victory last year over a winning team. Bragging over a scrimmage game, that the other team pulled their starters out of when it was 14 to 0. Pokey apparently kept their's in a while longer according to the stats. Newport did beat Rivercrest, Newport also beat YOUR conf champion. Rivercrest finished winning 7 games in a row and a state title...that's a strong finish.
Coming on strong in terms of how we started. Westsides field goal in overtime was a disappointment but mercy ruling Dumas in the playoffs and playing with ashdown till the 4th quarter was impressive. We're probably still a year away from our best ball but this isn't the same team as last year. Hootens does have it RC, Gosnell and Pocahontas but only because of unproven QB. I've watched Pocahontas football for 40 years and this team has great potential. We showed vanilla at Valley View. Probably because we were being scouted. Hootens magazine will also verify Devon's 4.39 if you'll read it.
Coltfan2005 were you at that scrimmage?
If I was at the scrimmage I would not have to rely on someone else's stats. And I do hope Pokey is better this year, I really do. Wouldn't brag too much about the Dumas win, not if you knew anything about their team and schedule. Except for Warren, Pokey played a harder line-up.
Small update. The VV starters were not pulled. They played the entire game. Pocahontas did pull theirs.

I believe the starters began to come out in the 4th quarter when the score was 28-14.
As a previous poster stated, i think this year's winner will come out of Gosnell, Rivercrest or Pokey. That's not exactly a bold prediction. I could see a three-way tie like we had a few years ago with Highland and Gosnell.
To the Redskins here on the board:
If you aren't nervous about the Young brothers and how much damage the Gosnell running game can do every year, you're not being realistic.
If you aren't nervous about all the studs and tradition at Rivercrest, you're not being realistic.
To the Rivercrest and Gosnell folks here on the board:
If you aren't nervous about Dawson Chester and Devon Adams, you're not being realistic. The Rivercrest coaches certainly are. If not, they wouldn't have showed up for a mid-August Mosquito Bowl.

Couldn't agree more any body can beat anybody on any given night Gosnell is a solid team year in and out that plays tough and rivercrest has a lot of tradition in the past and are reigning 3A champs you have to respect that

I don't know how those placements might fall but I can guarantee they will be exciting games to watch. All 3 teams are legitimate playoff contenders and all have the ability to make a deep run. Rivercrest coming to the conference will make it more competitive for every team. Might even get the 3_4A a little more relevance in the 4A as a whole.

Interesting to hear rivercrest is more invested in winning those non conference games instead of conference games then
And it's interesting to hear Pokey left their starters in 3 qtrs in a scrimmage game. Also interesting to hear that Pokey would take their only constant performer from last year (passing and rushing) and limit his output to passing yards and gadget plays. I have no idea why the coaches were actually at the game, could be they went to 5 Guys and then had a few hours to kill.

And I'm not sure why the coaches made a Quarterback change could be because Dawson is a better Quarterback and Adams is a better receiver but that would be way too obvious wouldn't it so the coaching staff must just be incompetent lol

Last year, it took them until about week 6 to get the defense settled due to moving guys around week by week and a few injuries. This year's team isn't necessarily a bigger group, but have the speed and definitely have the strength to get it done against most teams

That's something else: experience. Yes, we're bringing up a lot of sophomores, but if we can ease them in early on as they get a better grasp of high school ball, then I feel really good about this season.
I am gonna leave it at this. All 3 teams are great in their own right. All 3 have some great talent. We may trash talk some because it is fun. At least we have a lot to talk about and speculate over in this conference. This much talent happening at this same time are going to make for amazing Friday nights. No matter how these 3 teams fall, the 3-4A should have some decent representatives in the playoffs and that is something all the fans can take pride in. Always back our teams in playoff games. Gonna be some fun watching these young men play.

So, this soph is better than a QB who had the stats he did last year? Smart money keeps the man where he was and wins some games with him. Smart money does not take an athlete like that and limit him. He may turn some catches into extra yardage, but the team gives up 1,000 yards in rushing.

And if the kid beat out the kid that had 1,000 yards rushing surely that makes you wonder what this sophomore is capable of and that's for this year +2 more and if that's this case speaking hypothetically maybe the coaching staff and team should be watching pokey not VV and probably skip out on five guys but these are all hypotheticals

Why not Westside? I think WS and Brookland are going to surprise some people. That RB for Westside is a beast
Brookland won't win many games. No imagination whatsoever on offense. It looks no different from the past XX years.
And no outside presence on defense.
That and all Westside has to do is play a team with a decent run stop defense and they are done.
I will freely admit to being surprised by this game. The high score surprised me, the lack of defense surprised me, and Westside losing surprised me. Here's hoping that Paragould's offense isn't infected by waht ever GCT's offense caught.
Lol. No doubt. That would be a trip if Paragould beat Rivercrest, Gosnell, and Pocahontas.

Rivercrest, Gosnell, and Pocahontas are going to do well in conference.
oh...ok.
If Pocahontas hangs with or beats Nettleton then conference championship is likely.
At week two, isn't the conf title likely for 3-4 teams...win or lose?
Only 3 have a shot. Will know more about pokey chances after Friday night. Gosnell isn't balanced and suspect. Rivercrest is yet to be determined. New to the conference and nothing to compare them to.
all state running back, all state mvp qb, offensive line averages 279, excellent young fb, but a defense that is over all untried...that'll be the question. might show some adjusting for the first few weeks. VV passing game might hurt them early in the season. Defense has a good coach with talented players that will get much better with each game. Depth? Not so much.

Trust me, they surprised plenty. I think the main reason they played like they did was everything hitting just right, like experience, other teams' talent, and coaching what they had. They're more than likely a playoff team again this year, but not as good as the top 3 or 4

as far as comparing pocahontas to the 3a. i dont really care if they are that much better or not they dont play the 3a however i do know how they have and will compete in the 4a which is the conference they have dominated 4 of the last five seasons. this year being one of if not the best put together team in recent memory. at receiver we have depth that is close to the size of rivercrests sideline. most notable one who runs a 4.39 40 and will make any person in nea miss him he has hands like glue and the smarts of a college player. oh and he is all state at his secondary post.and behind him is younger players who without a doubt will be all conf this year .so if we move off that and say somehow (will never happen) and you shut down our pass well then we can bring out the hb in snyder who is 6feet and over 200 pounds of pure muscle and the toughest dude around has hands the size of baseball mitts and arms the size of most 3a players legs and close to untackleable.the colts had better hope and pray and beg snyder to get sick that week. and then we have dawson chester our new qb and yeah yeah he is a sophmore which is great cuz yall gonna let a soph put up 40+ through the air and probs rush 100+ hes super quick can through a mile through a tire and run over linemen knows where to put it before the coach does and is not afraid to lower his shoulder. so please please compare the skins this year to last year please because its not even close. so after u beat paragould and think u have accomplished something and then trumann and ocelola give u a game and yall go down and destroy the worst team around being highland then we will come pay yall a visit and bring a lesson on what redskin football look like. ;)
I guess all of these mentioned didn't play last night vs Nettleton. I know it's dove season but they are laying goose eggs in pocohontas. Lol super quick run over lineman , make any person in nea miss. Did I miss something, was he talking about another team. smh. ;D ;D ;D ;D
Still a lot of season left. Young team. They will improve as the season progresses
