Coach Ellis who played at Clemson takes charge of the 7th -9th Lady Bearcat program and assists Coach Baltz with the Sr girls. For the past 2 weekends they have been working out 4th -6th girls getting ready for travel teams. From what I saw at the red and black game the 7th and Jr girls are athletic and can get up and down the floor.
Annie Camp will be a tough test Monday night at the VV tourney. With a mixture of 3 talented 7th graders mixed in they should do well in conference. Brookland won 4A-3 conference last year and are looking forward to another run this year. I'm not real sure on the starting 5 yet , Because this group has a pretty deep bench. I will know more after Annie Camp game.
Talked to Coach before the Rivercrest game , she is excited about the potential this group has.
A lot of areas need improvement but the girls are working hard. Some good test early for the Lady Bearcats with A very stacked Jonesboro Annie Camp team who I believe will beat Marion in the finals. We have Paragould tomorrow and Riverside Friday. Nettleton , GCT and Jonesboro MacArthur coming up

Now wait a minute. How do they play Dexter Missouris Jr. High team? Missouri JH season is already finished a while back. Unless they played their JV which could be all 9th grade. But might also include Sr. High kids. Which would make all of Brooklands 9h graders ineligible to play JH ball the rest of the season.
Not trying to be snarky at all, just looking to make sense of it.
All I know it was at a Jr tourney at GCT , they had Dexter on their uniforms. None of them looked Sr high to me.
A lot of schools in Missouri have freshmen teams.
Somebody that played at Clemson is coaching small school 7th grade ball in Arkansas?

That's exactly what I thought too!!
This is her Bio off Brookland Websight
Angie Cossey Ellis
Head Junior Girls/7th Grade Basketball Coach
aellis@bpsbearcats.com
Angie Cossey Ellis graduated from Bradford High School and after an All-American year at North Arkansas College, she signed a scholarship to play basketball at Clemson University. In 1999, she was a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship team and competed in the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament. She was named team captain her senior year and was selected All-ACC in 2000. After graduation, she pursued her Master of Arts in Teaching at the University of South Carolina. She started her coaching career as the head coach at Hammond School in South Carolina where she was named the SCISA Region II Coach of the Year and was also selected to coach in the SCISA All-Star Game. After stints as a junior high and 7th grade coach, Coach Ellis stayed home seven years to raise her three children. In 2006, she was named to the North Arkansas College Athletic Hall of Fame. She returned to teaching in 2013 as a 3rd grade teacher at Brookland Elementary. Coach Ellis and her husband of 14 years reside in Jonesboro and their three kids attend Brookland Schools.

The distance between schools wouldn't allow it but I would love to see the Brookland 7th and Jr High girls play SC. Sounds like it would be some good games!!
Hopefully in the State Championship in a few years !!!
Coaching 101
GREAT players don't need to be begged, negotiated with, threatened or bribed to work hard. They WANT to work hard b/c they want to be great.
Haha!!! I hope so that would be nice about the state championship game!!!
And I agree with your next post!!

Thanks Bulldog92 & Oldref,
Talking to Coach Ellis She said she was proud of the effort of the girls in practice and in games.
They are starting to come together as a team. Playing some of the Best teams around this area will help them prepare for conference play.
On the road vs Highland Jan 4th
Looks like Star City and the Bay teams are doing well!!
Good luck to both this season!!!
I'm heading out to the Convo to watch some of the NEA tourney.
God Bless and Have a Merry Christmas!!!
The Lady Bearcats hit the floor running tonight , turning turnovers into points in a hurry , jumping out to a 14-0 lead. I like the unselfish play by everyone. If you was up front on the fast break you got the ball!!!
I believe Kalifa Ford led with 13pts followed by Mallorie Lovrien 9pts
Coach said she thinks the tough non conference schedule they played will help them in conference match ups/ need to get better every game!!!

Coach Ellis's dad is a well respected retired coach from the Searcy/Bradford area. Both brothers coached for awhile I believe. Basketball success runs in the family so Im not at all surprised that she is doing well. Congrats from an old friend of your dads!!

Brookland had a great year despite loosing starter 8th grader Carliegh Smith who was lost all season with ACL. At 5'10 and can run the floor, finish around the rim ,she would have really helped our team.
Looking forward to watching her play next year.

Brookland opened its brand new Arena yesterday, after watching the JR. Girls red and white scrimmage I look forward to watching this group. They should have a good year returning point guard freshman KaNya Ford who did very well at the Lady Razorback camp in her grade this Summer.
She Played with Arkansas Elite during the summer. Freshman Carliegh Smith is returning this year after missing her 8th grade season for ACL. freshman Gracie Gramling will be out about another 2 weeks. Freshman Hannah Boiling was a starter last year. Faith Champlin 6th man last year.
8th graders Samantha Simpkins and Kaitie Rainwater saw time on floor as 7th graders for the Jr. Lady Cats.

Was an extremely fun game to watch — much closer than expected to be, and classy. Didn't see attitude or emotion. Just a lot of fun. Strong girls over there at Brookland.
