Situation: K punts the ball....ball lands, touches a K player at 30 yard line. R picks up the ball, returns it 50 yards, gets tackled and fumbles. K recovers. Can R choose to take the ball at the 30 where it was first touched, and disregard everything that happened after?

I thought so.......so if a kicker touches a punt, there is no reason to not try to pick it up and return it. you can always just take it where he touched it. Unless you are afraid the ref doesn't know the rule.

Also you have to remember if the receiving team fouls after the change of possession and/or any foul committed during the down that is accepted then the right of taking the ball at the spot of first touching is canceled
