Reach on error is basically if the fielder bobbles it. If the fielder fields it cleanly then makes the throw in a hurry (because the runner busted it down the line) and the runner beats him out. The scorers decision is base hit. The fielder shouldn't have taken his time.

Also, Rivercrest had three. One on a bunt that resulted in a "home run". I can also recall a time Vaughn went to throw a kid out at third from center and Dewitt's coach kicked the ball into the dugout resulting in a run scoring. Take away those two mistakes and the game is a little less tight.

Class 4A Bulletin Board Material / Re: The NEW 4-4A
Last post by x14113 - March 25, 2024, 08:45:50 pm
I suppose it is past time for me to eat my words and move forward with a 4A-4 with a certain team in VB Co. I still feel for their awkward placement, though.

One could argue that, even with the return  of certain teams, the conference could take a step back in terms of overall quality (It's not every year a team wins 5 conference games and doesn't reach the postseason). However, there are varying levels of potential between most of the teams, as hinted before the new year.

Title Contenders: Ozark, Pottsville--These two teams will be relying strongly on senior leadership this fall. The Apaches should field their deepest roster on the gridiron in at least nine seasons, but they'll have to redouble their efforts getting over the hump after falling a point short of the top seed seach of the last two seasons. The Hillbillies are expected to rely on a strong sophomore class to fill key vacancies (especially at RB, WR, and OL), but a solid foundation is present through the wealth of experience at QB and LB (Which will be a benefit to whomever steps up to be the new DC). A key point of interest is whether the program's top freshman (who could very well be the best pound-for-pound athlete in the entire school district) gets promoted to varsity before the end of the regular season.

On the Fence: Clinton, Dardanelle, Lamar--It would not be a stretch for any of these three to make a push for the top. The Yellow Jackets get hit hard by graduation in the offseason, but should still field some talented underclassmen. The Lizards boast a talented junior class, but the remaining roster will have to step up if they are to compete for a title. The Warriors have the advantage of playing against Ozark in the playoffs last season, a boon their returning players hope to capitalize on.

Fighting for Week 11: Dover, Mena--These two teams have some catching up to do if they are to make any noise this fall. The Bearcasts were the largest beneficiary of the antics witnessed in the 4A-7 last cycle, and even with a more favorable conference overall, an upcycle of players, and improved facilities, a postseason berth could be a longer reach in this conference, at least for this season. The Pirate seniors do have a history of success, but they have struggled to match their accomplishments in lower levels of play.

Looking to Surprise: Waldron--You know you had a rough season when even Fouke and RCH ran roughshod over you. Whoever the Bulldogs hire to lead the program will need to work to retain the better players on the gridiron, a task made tougher by the notion that long-term membership in the 4A-4 won't be guaranteed, even with Booneville's eventual return.

CC was 6-5 in 2a football with two OL/DL men with multiple D1 offers. Something doesn't add up.

A lot are gonna have to consolidate. I firmly believe Woodlawn will go private if it gets to that point tho. Which in turn would mean they could be moved up 😂.
