I knew the "big time hire" probably wouldn't fall through.  Not enough money they want to dish out in the Dumas school district.

they should be able to pay more than a poor 3a school.

minerjack

Well, it could be a top quality job. And from the amount that was thrown out there, it wasn't too bad. But it just wasn't enough...

You would be surprised some 3A schools pay very nicely if they have the right coach.

evidently not enough in SOME cases. are you from barton?

For the record....somebody else said that the previous guy being talked about would be a big time hire, not me. I think from what I know about Coach Pennington that he is a great hire for Dumas!

with the athletes dumas has had in the past, that will work.

Union Parish is a powerhouse program in Louisiana. They won the 3A state title in 2013. This past year, they made the quarterfinals. They ran a smashmouth I-formation offense. Looks like Pennington was an assistant coach.

Then why leave for Dumas?

Edit: He was an assistant? I was under the impression he was the head coach. Now I get it.

They've always had good size on the line. Motivation and focus seems to be the biggest problem.

Loved watching those Union Parish teams over the past 3 seasons.  They have really built something special there in Farmerville and they've been a favorite of mine here recently.  Maybe it's the fact they're the Farmers, and their colors are orange and black--for AW it would be the Miami "U" on their helmets but I just love watching them play the game.

Smash-mouth, punch you in the chin and run over you type of offense and a very physical, athletic defense.  They beat the brakes off of a pretty good OCS team two seasons ago.  Last season's game with Haynesville will be one they remember in North Louisiana for some time--GREAT football game!

I've wanted Warren to schedule something with Union Parish for the last two seasons.  I think their opposite styles would be a great match-up for the fans to watch but would also help both teams prepare for the remainder of their schedules, win or lose.  Warren needs to play more physical, smash-mouth teams and Union Parish needs to play someone like the Jacks, with speed, athleticism and a spread scheme.  It's a win-win all around for all involved.

Just my two cents.

Funny the names you mentioned were never on the same team

AirWarren

I know that and who cares. There is still talent and potential there.

GotInfo?

This is a job that MANY guys would have gone after if it had happened earlier. There is always talent in Dumas, just have needed someone with good discipline and willingness to work hard himself and the kids as well. Not talking bad about Courtney. Sometimes in coaching you can get complacent and lose that edge.

SUGARTOWN

Just saw where Darion Griswold is on the Mackey Award watch list for the best college TE.
