Title: Top teams of the millennium
Post by: JessieP on July 18, 2018, 08:36:30 pm
I have a quick time killing experiment to help bridge us to summer practice, it's right around the corner. If your team moved up or down in classification only use their 5A record. It will be fun to see who has been the consistent Top 10 teams since 2000 ? Obviously PA will take the top spot but who will be 2, 3 and so on ? I'm betting Batesville, Wynne or Camden Fairview will land in the next few spots.  Almatrackster, tmycjy or Air Warren can fill in a lot of blanks.

Since 2000 Batesville is 169 - 54 - 2. That's a 17 year average of 9.9 wins and 3.2 losses a year. Is that good enough for the 2nd spot ?

One of the stat whizzes will look it up, but I bet you're right- it's Batesville.

Re-check your numbers. I included playoffs, Batesville's numbers are taken from the schools archives. According to your numbers CF plays 11 games a year, PA playes 8, Batesville plays 8, Wynne plays 8. Time to change the batteries in the calculator. CF has more wins than PA ? Good luck trying to sell that one.

I'm not getting how CF has played 200 games and the others have played 140ish in the same time period.

Camden has been in the 5A since 2001 and the rest haven't. The others have been in the 3A or the 4A.

Wait, are you wanting to use the 4A from 2000-2005 and then 5A from 2006-Present for this?

The 4A from 2000-2005 (and before) is considered the 5A now for record purposes, etc.

Lol, ok I get it now. We're in the same conference now. Then let the fun begin. Y'all might beat us again this year but I can see our future getting brighter slowly but surely under Coach Monden. Good luck to you guys and see ya soon.

Back in the old 5A South days CF was a distant rival to Arkansas High behind El Dorado and Pine Bluff.

Thank you Almatrackster, I was hoping you would show up. That was my point, the classifications as well as the schools. That was why I went back to 2000. I still use my initial Batesville numbers because the 4A in 2000 grew up to be the 5A.

This could get really involved.  I would factor in 3rd round games played.  State titles and runner-up finishes.  Big increase in points for winning State.

Those factors just might nudge Wynne for the 2 spot on the list of best 5A teams  2000-2017.

GW would be near or at the top in winning percentage since they were in 4A which became the 5A of today from 2000-2011 with 6 titles in there as well in that span...Pretty sure their average wins in the 12 year stretch there would be 10+ something and average losses would be 2+ something,  I believe.  I can't remember exact record in 2000 I only recall the loss to NS to open the year.

It would be an even higher %, if you added in what they did once they moved to 6A (against a lot of 7A competition in the blended conferences). Something like 70 wins and 8 losses in 6 years in 6A (with 5 of those losses all coming in 2014), plus 2 more titles there.

Just think, GW may even wind up back there in the 5A next cycle.

Carry on....

Not sure who wins it on the stats, but some of the best high school football games I have seen in the last 20 years were between the teams mentioned above, absolute dogfights between Batesville and Wynne over the years.  I would come out of those games exhausted, so many ups and downs thru 4 quarters of smash mouth football at its finest.

Over the years warren has played its fair share of 5A teams. I would say since 1998, around the time I started really keeping up with high school ball, the top teams would be:
No particular order.

1. Wynne.
2. Batesville.
3. Pulaski academy.
4. Alma.
5. Camden FV.

Now this is teams that were once 4a now considered to be 5a. I was an 8th grader in 1998. Warren was playing teams like Alma back then and wynne. But Warren was just waking up as a state title team around that time.

Couple of others that have been good 5A teams. No particular order.
1. LR MCCLELLAN of recent.
2. Monticello. 2009 team was one of the best in the state regardless of class.
3. Helena West Helena(Darius Winston years).

I was curious of what teams, former 5A and currently 5A, had at least one undefeated season and what was the year(s)?  I think Greenwood and Pulaski Academy are two.  I believe that Harrison had one in 1999.

This may be a "close, but no cigar" situation but Batesville was 12-0-1 in 2004. They tied Searcy on a missed PAT.

Camden Fairview, 14-0 in 2012. Closest game was an 8 point win over Watson Chapel.
