Heard a dad was upset with a call, went on court to argue with officials, eventually getting tazed. Anybody see this game?

SouthpawSensation

Confirmed ... Yes, this actually happened.

jrbballguy

he wasn't upset with a call, he was upset with the official for mouthing his teenage daughter.  The girl was in tears from whatever this official said to her.  Her dad came out of the stands to ask the official what he said, he got tackled by police before he got to him and got tazed in the process.
If this official was running his mouth to a player, he shouldn't be officiating.  And if the police officers tazed a guy without cause... somebody will get sued

smallybells

I have 2 daughters that play ball, barring an injury I am not setting foot on the court.

jrbballguy

so you would let a grown man say whatever he wanted to your daughter?  ???

After the game in the parking lot would have been a better way to deal with it :D......Ok ok I'm not condoning violence, but if the guy did go after the guy in the middle of the game, that's probably not the best thing to do. Gotta wonder what the ref said...If I'm Atkins admin I'm probably telling the guy to hit the showers either way.....

I'd like to say that I have the self control to make sure that the proper authorities take care of the ref....But I guess we'll see in about 10 years.

jrbballguy

I'm not saying marching onto the court was the right thing to do.  I'm not sure what I would have done to be honest.  But you and I both know that officials take care of their own, so as far as him facing any disciplinary action... we will see what happens.

smallybells

Well,  I don't know, was he shouting personal insults or just telling her to be quiet after a questionable call? These refs in 3A are horrid, but I cant see one going on a personal tirade,  but if he did he should be banned permanently.

FreeMoney

He won't Be banned or even reprimanded. Remember this and never forget the AAA holds court over this and there is zero.zero accountability in that class of midget clowns

Never know...if word gets around that dude is mouthing at teenage girls he might get blackballed...as he should be.

I think anything short of the ref actually calling the girl a "B" , should be waited and handled after the game. I think that I would make sure I am in between the floor and the refs room to discuss It with him. But in about 15-20 years when I got kiddies, I may think differently. But going on the court is probably a bit much.

And I'm sure this all is on video on someone's phone or camera, if it is they need to make that be seen. You Tube or something

RedWolf275

Barring injury, a fan has zero business on the floor during games. He should be banned for a while.

HawgBall06

Anything short of injury or physical violence, the only people on the court should be players, refs & coaches.

I have been on both sides of this issue, court security for a state tourney and as a parent who pursued refs into their dressing room after 1 of our all-state players was injuried in a game that was allowed to get way out of hand at the Saratoga tourney.  I was wrong for doing that BTW, but I let my emotions get the best of me and I was very fortunate to have not been banned for that action.  I believe the refs 7 school officials must have felt that I was pretty much spot on with my complaints.

I completely understand the man being upset that his daughter was crying, but that is no excuse for his actions.

24

does anyone know what the ref said?

#EagleStrong

Supposedly he called her a t*tbag. That's what some kids that were at the game told me.

LoL Wut??  Sorry that was my initial response....

a Ref calling a student names shouldn't be acceptable at all..and....I still don't think guy should be allowed to ref the rest of the year...maybe next year, but guy definitely needs to grow up...

...or ever again.  IMO he should have his referee credentials pulled.

smallybells

A "t*tbag"....only one letter I can fit in there to make that slightly insulting instead of ridiculous....was the ref 13 or intoxicated or something?   takes the prize for obscure and unacceptable this year if true. Still should have been an issue for the coach to handle I think, or handled through some other channel.

I would not jump to,conclusions here. Notice he said "supposedly" and also that was what some kids told him. Is there any better documentation of this?

#EagleStrong

I'm giving you hearsay via a teenager that knows the girl involved and was at the game. It could be embellished, altered, or completely untrue, so don't treat it as the gospel truth.

granted a ref shouldnt be calling any kids names. what about the dad? what type of punishment should he receive?

Banned from the gym....Don't care the circumstances, fans/parents should never enter the field/court unless their kid is injured, and then only in certain circumstances...

I was told today by an employee of Two Rivers, whose granddaughter plays for Danville and was at the game, that the guy was given no warning by the police before the whole altercation happened, and that there will be legal action taken against the police officer involved.

arthurhawgerelli

I wasn't there. I was told the dad took the SRO's taser and tazed the SRO, and a policeman from the stands tackled the dad. Anybody confirm this?

Probably going to depend on what people are willing to say in court if anything actually comes of this...

Buddy of mine from Ola tells me it was the Fan that got tazed...

HawgBall06

The story on the state news tonight did not favor the dad.  It sounds like he will be facing changes and he has lawyered up.  BTW, they finished the game yesterday and the Atkins girls won.

24

Funny how the accounts of the event will vary. i was told dad confronted the ref while the ref and coch were talking, SRO saw dad enter the court and went to escort him out, in the process dad and SRO went to the floor and SRO's arm was broken. meanwhile an off duty police officer, still in uniform, came outta the stands and tasered dad. dad hacked pants while being tasered, gym was cleared. dad is facing several charges, with one of the charges being a felony. he could be in some serious trouble.

Lions84

Well keep this one going and let us know how it all pans out.

That's exactly what I heard from several people in the know.

he was asked to leave by the officer first and he told the officer he wasn't leaving and then it all broke loose and went down hill. There are two security cameras in gym plus game film that captured it all so it won't really matter on the he said she said crap the video will tell the truth.

I work with a guy that is from and lives in Atkins, and he said it was the Danville coach that upset the girl, lol, reminds me of a sociology experiment in school once where at statement was told to one person and then spread gradually to see how it was construed at the end of the line. :o Either way it sounded like a bad situation all the way around.

****And I am in no way stating something as fact, just showing how much a story can differ depending on who you ask in these situations, so don't go ballistic****

Examples like this are why I am so glad my dad sat in the far upper left side of the bleachers and kept to himself during my games in high school. I asked him once why he sat there and he told me it was because that was my time and his time to enjoy us kids being ourselves. He said he never wanted to feel I had to see or hear him during a game nor was it his place to question a coach or fellow teammates. He always told me he could keep his thoughts between himself and I...... I hope the ref did not say what he did because that is pretty pathetic if he did talk to a kid like that. However, the guy could have handled it between his daughter and himself after the game with a life lesson... My dad had too many of those after games. I know a lot of you guys know those talks as well.

I have two daughters that play. I have said it before, barring an injury where one of them is laying on the floor, my place is in the stands. As far as the after game talks go, I let them evaluate themselves by their own drive and leave the rest to the coaches. There may be smack talk and pointers goofing around at the backyard goal at home though 😊

MomaLion

I know this family and they are the most mild mannered people I know. For the dad to go onto the court would take something really bad to have happened. Also, the player isn't the type to just cry over nothing, she's tough...It must've really been something over the top to set her off.  I totally support this family, for what it's worth.

FreeMoney

The one referee in this instance has a reputation of mouthing at kids. Didn't surprise me that he said something to ignite this. AAA has done nothing. Same referee calling regional final at Bradford last weekend. Probably be at a state tournament this week. Further drives home the point of how corrupt and incompetent the AAA is.

MomaLion

Can we get a description of this ref so we can watch for him?

WPWells

That doesn't seem right. We have no proof this official said what he did

Knowing the family and knowing they would not react to just anything, that's proof enough for me. I'm tired of these refs with a "God" complex...yes I know not every ref it's that way but I believe this one was. That is my opinion based on knowledge of this family.

FreeMoney

Sorry to report I was right on this!! Said official was on the floor calling state tournament games SaTrudy at Nashville. Sad state of affairs when the AAA and the head of officials allows such a travesty. Actually he did a decent job so maybe the slap on the wrist he got was enough. Sheesh!!!!!

Basically they covered their conference games...Johnson, Pope and Franklin counties are the only places he's banned from games at.

He could watch their home games though. Danville is in Yell County (as is Two Rivers). Also, Booneville and Paris are both in Logan

It sounds like they're going to have to put an ankle monitor on this guy to track his whereabouts  lol...
