What's the scoop on this one?

The girls matchup, LRCA was up by one late in the 2nd when Maumelle sent the equalizer over the net and while they were pushing up got caught in a counter attack in the last minutes of the match. Overall it was a good match which neither side dominated.

The boys matchup, it was 2-0 Maumelle at half. Then LRCA in the first minute of the 2nd half scored to cut the lead in half. Maumelle scored towards the later part of the 2nd half off a free kick rebound and a PK within the last couple minutes of the match. Would say Maumelle took control of the match in the 2nd half.

White Hall @ Stuttgart:

VG 1-1
VB 4-2 Stutgart

Boys game was just ugly.  A couple of cards, sloppy defending all around.  Both teams have some work to do, but it could've just been an off night for WH, they did mercy rule that same Stuttgart team at Bulldog Stadium last week.  Hard to say.  Girls was closer, Stuttgart goal was a little lucky but posession was fairly even.  White Hall VG are really young this year, had at least 3 freshmen starting, more freshmen and new players saw significant playing time.  If those girls gel later in the year they could be dangerous.

Girls game: LRCA vs Maumelle last years score was 2-0 if anyone would recall. Both teams are evenly matched, but LRCA took advantage of Maumelle's mistakes and kept the them contained to only have a hand full of shots.

After watching the Maumelle boys for the first time his year I was impressed. They reloaded with a strong group of sophomores who play club soccer together. They aren't as big and fast as last year but they certainly looked capable of being in contention for the title.  LRCA looked good but just had a couple defensive breakdowns early that cost them a couple goals. They seem to always get better as the season goes on.

Boys: Is Maumelle the same caliber team they were last year, or is LRC down?

No, Maumelle is not the same caliber team as they were last year. And yes, LRC is down.

Team Mom,

Please keep in mind in many cases, these scores offer the only glimpse we have on a good number of teams.  And, last year was the first year the 5A West had a chance to look at Maumelle.  Until we can see them in person, many of us are just trying to see where these teams are this year as compared to last.  The Maumelle boys of last year were a bit of a surprise because they were unknown, but played team ball quite well last year enroute to a very good season (one ended by DeQueen).  The Maumelle girls - with a good number of club players - were a bit more of a known factor but even still ran into a PA team on a roll.

Since we don't have any way of knowing the roster turnover, this bit of back and forth is all we have here...

PA Girls finally kick off the season tonight against Mt. Saint Mary's JV.  Looking forward to seeing how we play.

As an aside here, the forums look a little funky...

Shouldn't we be at the top of the page now...  :)

Episcopal 8-1 Star City

Girls:

5A West:

VG: Greenbrier 1(4), Vilonia 1(3)

A tale of two halves in this one. GB's goal came from a scrum in front of the goal about halfway through the 1st half. Vilonia's goal was eerily similar, halfway through the second half.

PKs went through 8 rounds.

A couple of minor score corrections:
3/14 VG Episcopal 8, Star City 0 (not 8-1)
3/15 VG Warren 7, LISA Academy 0 (not 6-0)

One note on the Episcopal/Star City VB game.  Episcopal was leading 3-0 when a Star City player received a red card.  Episcopal was definitely the better team, but at 11v11 the game was more even than the final score (8-1) would suggest.

There seems to be 4 girls teams that will compete this year, and they seem head and shoulders above the rest.

Lakeside may have had a bad game.  Just by looking at results so far, it seems Lakeside is solid.  They've played a few 7A teams tight, beating one of them, and beat CAC.  If Hot Springs still has Guadron, I'm sure on a hot night, he can light it up.

They do.  He tallied his 100th (and maybe more) career goal last night.

Boys: Is Maumelle the same caliber team they were last year, or is LRC down?

ArkHog#7,
Apologize for not answering sooner. No, the current team is not the same caliber as last year's team which was made up of mostly seniors. Believe there were 14 seniors that left and 9 or 10 were starters. Where most of the boys played together on club for a long time. So, no this year's team is not going to be the same caliber. However, the current team has a good group and mostly are sophomores. On LRCA, heard that they to also lost a good number seniors from last year but are still a good team.

Now conference play has started this week, think we will know more about the teams soon.
