Proud of our boys!! They played with determination and class throughout this season.

I am curious, has the mercy rule ever gone into effect in a state final before? I heard several people saying Saturday night that they'd never seen it before, but would love some facts?

bdubyab60

EPC beat osceola by 33 for thier first title but there wasnt a mercy rule back then. But here as of late I havent seen it.

Osceola beat Harrison in the 4A state finals in 2001 by 30...
Girls MOrrilton beat Heber Springs in the 4A state finals by 37 in 2003...

How many back to back state champions have there ever been?

I have been going to Hot Springs for the finals since 2008 (except of course for last year when it was in Little Rock) and there has been at least one mercy rule per weekend. Last year the one that sticks out the most was the Greenland girls over Jessieville in the 3A title game

Well there were THREE two-time state champs this weekend. Besides Cedar Ridge, North Little Rock won is second straight 7A championship and the Malvern girls won its second Class 4A title

EPC, CR, Althiemer, BIC twice and those are just the ones I know that went back to back of the top of my head.

OK, I did a little research on that and come up with all the back to back champs for boys and girls. There are several with three in a row and a few with four in a row. Probably the most famous of the back to back state champions was West Memphis in 1980 and 81 as both those teams were undefeated those years. And in 1979 and 1980, BOTH the Parkdale boys and girls won back to back titles:

In 2007, Anderson scored 43 points to lead Junction City to a 68-35 mercy-rule win over Jessieville

And I had forgotten this but probably the worst beating in the state finals history (since 1993) was the CAC girls' 75-24 win over Ashdown in 2006 at Alltel Arena.
