Alma wont be able to hang with Dedrick and the two twins. This years alma team could have gave them a good run. But not seeing it happen for next years team

Ohh Dale makes a good point. Alma has been doubted the last 4 years! I think we will compete with them well! Alma's got plenty coming back.

Alma is always good.  They develop players and use their system.  Never count them out against anyone.

Love him or hate him, this thread is not complete without Alex Rose from Harrison. I'm looking forward to him going H2H with the kid from Clarksville when they join the 5A West next year.

He isn't even the same league as the Lee kid from Clarksville. Clarksville will be the team to beat next year and rose will struggle against a defender like that.
I guess we'll find out.  They have played on the same team and against each other for years so unless you have seen them both on the same court then you don't know.  And since you said what you did you obviously haven't seen them play against each other.  If he can't score on him
then Alma is in real trouble.  Lee is good but they press and they will be the favorites but Alma nor Harrison are going to back down and lay down for them.  Derek Keaton from Camden is supposed to be the best "on ball" defender in the 5A and Alex got 27 on him.  I worry about us beating their pressure not Alex scoring in the half court.  That's where they are tough is with pressure.
Alma may be more concerned with conference championships than all this other stuff (Alma is in real trouble).
You made my point exactly.  They can't stop everyone and good team play will give everyone a chance to beat them.  My point is if you think they can stop Alex who is one of the better offensive players in the conference (I'm Dad so I'm prejudice) then how are others going to score.  It will be team and execution.

I just don't understand all of the negative stuff about rose.  I have been reading this board for a few years and there is not much positive said about him other than he can score. If I was dad, I might start looking at things a little more closely to see if some things need to change. I have never seen him play but from what I have read he is a fantastic player. It just seems like(from what I have read) that something else needs to change.

P.F.G.

I watched Clarksville play four times this year. They will be the favorite to win the 5A west next year and should walk through it. I watched rose play three or four times this year and still woudnt put them in the same class. Lee is a stud. No disrespect to rose, or any other player in the 5A west but he is head and shoulders above everyone.

Really.

I've told RJ his son is cocky. Everyone who has watched him play will tell you the same thing. RJ has told me in the past, that he's not cocky, just confident. Wrong.

I can handle criticism of myself and my family with the best of them, and have taken my share of it over the years.

If someone is giving you their honest opinion of your son, then it is constructive criticism. Not picking on anyone.

When I say Alex is cocky. I'm not picking on him. He's cocky. End of story.

I will say this RJ. You've handled all the negative talk about your son like a pro.
I think you get the big picture. It's just a friggin message board. People act like this is the end of the world that certain comments were made on here. Lighten up Francis(The movie Stripes).People ask me all the time...how can you put certain stuff on Fearless. People. It's just a message board. Nothing more.

Some things are just not worth the time and effort. I mean, we just lost a FF poster people.
Let's keep things in perspective.

I agree their the favorite and wasn't saying Alex is in the same class as Lee.  Just saying he will be able to score on him.  With everyone coming back Clarksville should be the favorite but the 5A West teams I know are not going to hand it to them.  They will fight them tooth and nail for it.  Alma has enough coming back to make a run at the conference title.  Don't throw in the towel just yet.  BTW, to SP.  The FF poster that passed away is a friend and was a great Goblin fan.  He will be missed greatly in this community.  I went to his funeral yesterday and there was a lot of people there.  Your right it is what's important.

Ask his coach!  he knows him.  He is popular with the coaches, teachers, and parents because he does mind and is friendly to everyone.  He is very confident and some think it comes across as cocky.  I know SP is going to jump on that but he has toned down that quite a bit but can't overcome impression he left with some.  As his coach likes to say if they knew him they would love him.  He's mind but he behaves himself and is kind to people and that is more important to me of what kind of person he is than what some perceive on the court.  Sorry but that's my take.  I know this is only a message board.

Here is my prejudice opinion.  I think three players from Harrison are going to be very exciting to watch.  Maybe not the "most" exciting but fun to watch.  Grant, Rose, and Doshier could be a great show the way they can score.  They will be hard to stop.  All have gotten a lot better and stronger.  Plus, two years ago only John Colliver could dunk for us.  Last year Doshier and Rose could dunk.  This year our athleticism has increased and there are at least 5 or 6 players that can dunk.  It should be a fun year in the 5A West.  Hope we are in the thick of it.

Rj I hope you are right the biggest issue I see is the weakness on the defensive side of the ball and lack of rebounding. With that being said how many 10 point leads has the goblins blown with under 2 minutes left? Someone needs to understand with the guards they have had the past 2 years especially two years ago that has to be game over instead of I am open from 40 here goes. Is anyone home let the air out and knock down free throws. I have caught several games the last couple years that's my take!

Umm, two years ago, I don't believe Harrison had any blown leads, arguably one. They had 6 losses that year. One to Bentonville, outplayed. One to Huntsville (Trumbo went off), one to Greenbrier (Burcham went off), one to Morrilton (Harrison trailed by 20 at the half and lost in overtime), one to Alma (McCoy), and one to Sylvan Hills. Not to mention being down to Forrest City by 16 with 2 and a half minutes to go and winning and being down to Siloam by 8 with 45 seconds to go and winning. The only potentially blown lead was Sylvan Hills. I believe we were up 8 to start the 4th and they tied it up with 4 or 5 to go and then it was back and forth.

I agree but I think this group has matured and I think they will be very good at clock management.  They have been working on that.  They will be playing this weekend in the Harrison MAYB tournament at NAC.  They play at 7:00 p.m. Friday night, 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in pool play.  They will start bracket play Saturday night based on their finish in pool play.  They will play anywhere from 6:00 p.m. to as late as 9:00 p.m. in the first round.  Come by and watch them.

rjrose

Not sure who the most exciting player in 5A is or even the 5A West because there are so many but I watched two from Harrison today perform very well at the ASU Elite Camp.  Both made the All Star Team and had great games in the competition.  Both averaged double figures in scoring and played on BOTH ends of the floor.  Jackson Doshier and Alex Rose I think will be exciting for Harrison this year.  Of course, Alex is exciting to me because I am Dad but he had a good day and ASU liked both of them.  Here's hoping the Gobs have a great year.  One last trip next weekend to Branson to play some AAU teams with our school team and a couple of pick ups to see how we have progressed this summer.

I wish the girls nothing but the best. Alma has got to change something on the girls side. When you have over 15 girls quit over the last two years and win one game and that was against UCA in a tournament that you hosted and set up the brackets than something has got to change. I don't blame you for moving your girls to a winning environment. That is on the court and off. Greenwood ranked 7th in the state last year from Benchmark exams. Alma was 107. Goodluck SNWA, I hope they enjoy the new school and great education.

Thank you Alma, the girls have adjusted well and have enjoyed playing ball this summer with this group, taking 2nd in nationals. We will miss alma and our friends alot, but you have to do whats best for your children.
As for whats going on with the girls program in Alma, there are issues but the coaches do care and there is a great group of girls there, for whatever reason its just not meshing and we did not fit well. Thanks for your kind words.
