Pitbull

I got a beautiful white pitbull from one of my friends for Christmas.  She bought the dog from a guy in Houston who still has the papers to him.  The problem is that she doesn't know how to get a hold of him and I need papers on him.  My question is this: Is there anyway I can get my pitbull registered?  I went to www.pitbullregistry.com and I think I found a way but it just confused me so I stopped.  So could anyone please help?
