Arkadelphia vs. Stuttgart, Hot Springs @Arkadelphia, Pulaski Robinson @ CAC, Clinton vs. Heber Springs, Clinton @ Highland, Dardanellle @ Booneville, Fountain Lake @ LR Christian, Maumelle @ Fountain Lake, Gravette @ Pottsville, Mcgehee @ Hamburg, Heber Springs @ Greenbrier, Lonoke @ Star City, Beebe @ Lonoke, Lake Hamilton @ Malvern, Mena @ Hot Springs, Nashville @ Watson Chapel, Sylvan Hills @ Newport, Pottsville @ Morrilton, Russellville @ Pottsville, Prairie Grove @ Farmington, Prairie Grove @ Charleston, Shiloh Christian vs. Charleston, Stuttgart @ Warren, Smackover vs. Warren

.....These are all non conference games involving 4A teams that are really worth keeping an eye on to see if a team will be living up to presesson expectations or not as well as some rivalry games.

AirWarren

That Warren/smackover game will be interesting.

beach bum

Its probably the biggest game to look at on the whole list.

AirWarren

It will be the year for a 3a school to get a shot to beat Warren. The last time it happened was against fordyce I believe. When this years seniors who won state were freshman. 6 of them started on the high school squad as 9th graders.

Still making excuses for a loss 4 years ago? Wow.

^^^^  you guys never cease to amaze me on your come backs ^^^^  lol

The Star City Lonoke game is always interesting!
The widest margin of victory between the two teams was 14.
A 21-7 win for the Bulldogs at UAPB in 2011.

HeberFan

Clinton and Heber both graduated strong senior classes. That seems to be the case all across the conference. Is this the year teams like Riverview and Batesville Southside make some noise ?

Clinton isn't in the 2-4A this year, they weren't last year either.

To answer your question though. No.

HeberFan

This post is titled "Non-conference games worth watching." I do realize Clinton and Heber are not in the same  conference and thus are included in this post

So what conference were your referring to when you said "that seems to be the case all across the conference"? Clinton's conference or Heber's?

If you're talking about the 2-4A you're mistaken.

HeberFan

I was indeed unclear. I believe the 2-4A graduated a lot of good seniors and many teams will be looking to fill holes this fall.

Well, I know one who had a small senior class with some athletes but not really great football players

APACHE

The Pottsville Apaches will host the Russellville Cyclones. Last year the game at Russellville had over 5,000 people come through the gate to watch David vs Goliath. The intensity level was off the charts. Standing room only.

Apaches played hard but 5 turn overs is hard to overcome and we squandered a 20 something point lead at half time and the cyclones to their credit never gave up.

I think this game will be even greater as I know the Apaches thought they should have walked out of that game with a 30 something point victory. And I know that Cyclones think we don't even deserve to be on the same field with them.

So if your not doing anything on Sept 18th come on down to John Needham Stadium and watch a slobber-knocker.

Nashville should win that game but I seriously doubt that they'll leave Pine Bluff with a win over Watson Chapel.

He must not know that Nashville hasn't lost a Jr. High game since 1932, no way they lose to Watson Chapel...

No it wasn't a quote, just an opinion.

I didn't pick WC to beat Nashville last season because:

(A) WC was young and inexperienced.

(B) They had a first year head coach

They are a veteran team with good size this season that is deep, quick speedy, and powerful plus the game is being played in Wildcat Stadium so yes, I believe the Cats will get the win.

The fact that Nashville's star player from last years team will be wearing a Hog uniform instead of a Scrapper uniform doesn't help Nashville either.

Nashville won at WC two years ago. 7 starters from that game are now seniors. This is the best team Nashville has had since the start of this non conference series.

Yes they did win that game but to be truthful, WC gave that one away. It was a rainy night and WC fumbled many times not to mention hurting themselves with numerous penalties. This years team just might be the best team WC has had since dropping to 5A.
