Don't get too excited about that 40 time, this is the second thread in two minutes I've seen you bragging on about it. Slow your roll, kid.

Well, good.

If I was trying to brag I would have said I can bench 250. And anyways it doesnt really make you look good or make me look bad cause my very first time to ever on an organized schedual was the week after football ended. This is my first year to lift unlike most of these other guys who have lifted for 2 years and for PA guys who have lifted for 3 years I believe. Also when we maxed out and then after four weeks of lifting we remaxed I had the greatest improvement of my bench taking it 20 pounds higher than before. And your not doing better and I'm sure you never will because I have recently started my own workout with a personal trainer along with what I'm doin at school.
I maxed 2 weeks after basketball season was over and I hadn't lifted since summer.
but you had lifted before
yea i jsut started liftin this year
started at 95 and now at 145
He aint braggin bout his bench press freaks, he's braggin bout his forty time. Which is pretty dang good for an eighth grader. . . .unless he failed or somethin. . . I'm ten and i run a 7.0, becnh 85, squat 105 and power clean my little sister (40) who can outrun everyone in kindergartern. but I'm tall and fat, so I eat alot.
nah i didint fail

Im not really gettin why you would brag with 250 on bench if its not true...And we have been liftin at PA for 2 years, not 3. And as for your post earlier in the forum...leg press doesnt show anything. It is all in squats.

No one else on here knows what I bench so I could make anything up that I want toand brag about it. Just because someone brags about something doesn't mean it's true. And that's my bad about the three year thing. Did ya'll not lift after 6th grade?
Hey DatDaMan, do you have something against small schools or do you think that just because someone goes to one that they can't be as fast/strong/ as someone from a large school? Whatever the case, I think you need to get over your prejudice against the small schools. I happen to live in a small town and wouldn't want to live anyhwhere else. Have a nice life.

We might as well get used to it, they are never going to go away.
no small school beat us this year
I ran a 4.86 going into 8th grade and a 4.7 going into the 9th
What school do you go to?
A 4.9 isn't really all that impressive, but it is definitely a great start. I ran a 4.73 when I was in the 9th grade.
If you still want to talk trash about the small schools, here's just a short list of some of the players who go/went to a "small school"- Marcus Monk, Ked Madden, Keun Joplin (EPC), Cedric Houston (Clarendon), Jeb Huckeba (Harding Academy), Bubba Noakes (Ola), Brett Smith, Roshaun Fellows (Warren), Carlos Hall, Elliott Harris (Marianna), Cedric Cursh (Foreman), Justin Bean (Jessieville), Nathan Campbell (Hazen). Oh, and you might want to go to the AAA board and read about a guy named Cruz Williams from Pulaski Academy- 6ft. 4in. 195 lbs. runs a 4.45 and HE'S IN THE 9TH GRADE!!! One more thing- your hero Dat Nguyen didn't exactly go to a large high school, either. Rockport, Texas is a 3A school and has a population of about 7,000.
Way to represent painted fan.

On that note...a couple more, Jacob Adams from Hazen played at UCA and Brandon Stidham from Des Arc plays at Tech. Those are not large schools by any means.

Well I think it would be too except for the fact that I already have. But I laugh about it with my friends all the time. But I think I've probably done better than most of these other guys in my firest year of lifting. The fact that in 6 months I've raised my bench max by 80 lbs. and I still have all summer doesn't sound too bad (or at least to me). I don't really care about the fact that a girl can nearly bench more than me because it won't be that way for very long.
Soccerdude. who are the best 5 bench pressers in your grade and what do they do. jw
Let's see I'm pretty sure I've seen Wes Rhodes and Jonathan Braun both doing 210 or something like that, Shelby Fuertado can do somewhere around 200, Griffin Kuhn can do like 185 I think, and Cody Curtis can do about the same as Griffin (plus I heard we're gettin a new guy from AB that can bench more than them all).

Wow, from looking at your past posts I'm suprised you thought I had credibility. Oh andI talked to George andCody today about Adam (the guy from AB) and from they've told me he said he's coming. And thats probably my brother and sister and Jonathan Graham clapping me.
But anyways I'll get my facts straight tomorrow and ask Wes and Shelby and all those guys how much they do so I wont be "lying"
(where did you talk to Wes anyways?)
i heard adam was coming to lrc next year for sure. wes and shelby are both around wat soccerstud has been saying maybe a little bit off.
Alright I talked to Wes this morning and he told me since we last maxed out he has benched 210. And Nuel either you have no clue what Adam I'm talking about or your makin stuff up but Adam shadowed today and he says he doesn't know who you are. There goes your credibility out the window...........
I thought you were talking about Will Rollins. And to add some maxed from PA- Zack Altizer got 240, Dave Grundfest got either 195 or 200 not sure but i know it is one of those. I am not sure where anyone else is, but i know that we have 10 guys benching over 165.
Awesome. Ya'll will probably be stronger than us again next year
since we are on bench, there was a kid from highland named billy ninemire was a freshman last year, i dont know his what he benches now, but the summer before his 8th grade and 9th grade year he was gettin 255-260, along with a 5 flat 40, talk about a hoss
I know who your talking about and just talk to him not to long ago and he said he only maxed out at 240 and he dropped down some now.... but i do agree he is a Hoss !
im from a small school and run a 4.46 40 yard dash
Billy?, I played legion baseball with him and he was my roommate and i know he has atleast benched 255 before, he doesnt lift weights much over there so it could have dropped
i Maxed out yesterday and got up 175
Nice. Keep up the hard work
Yeah alot of guys have been working hard at Pa, everybody's maxes have gone up alot.

Thank you for that correction.

Ummmm. . . . how should how should i say this u r an idiot, i work out with these guys and dude they have worked there butts off this of season and they are strong and are going to be good football players, but if u look at them it doesnt look like they r that strong except for braune, i think PA will be the best team in the 6AAA conference unless the LRCA comes together and works hard, and i have seen that happen, like last year they were a small team in the size of the players and not strong at all, and everyone said they wouldnt last, but hey idk nething could happen but that lrca coach knows what he is doing, supersoccerstud u know nothing
Jo Mama runs a 6 flat-actually he runs a 5.5 and is in the seventh grade retard

Wow cantthinkofaname, you totally lost me........I never said they look strong, I said they are strong so I don't see what you were talking about there. There was also never anything brought up in my post about whose gonna win conference. Also I don't remember anyone saying we wouldn't last and I don't know why because usually the defending conference champs arn't underestimated, I do remember us destroying just about everyone we played in 7 on 7 so I don't know why people would say that......they must be idiots :). White one can run a 4.9 on good time and 5.0 normally

it is for real. he ran 40 yards in 1 second , and he threw a football 600 yards. he also lifts 1000 pounds.
Well I want him on my team..
i saw him play b4 and he sucks

Wow, Iggy, do you think a 4.9 is some kind of record for a jr. high 40 yard dash time. It's not too slow, but you're not some unbelievable speedster. Also the size of your town has nothing to do with the time you run.
Did you really want to see what times other people ran, or tell them that they didn't run a faster time than you.
Bryce Lunday is 5'8 runs a 4.7 and also is white... Why would you clarify if he's white??? Your just going to start something with other people

And you actualy play ?
What are you trying to say Just cuz I don't run fast and bench alot and stuff I can't play or something?
Cuz as a matter of fact You don't need to be fast to be a tight end ok strong maybe but I have seen some slow rear tight ends and they play And I have some of the best hands grade thank you
well it does matter in the game of football...and i wouldnt be all up tight because u did ask whether it was good or bad. so its constructive critisism. But i tight end that weighs 175 in high school and only squats 265 and benches 155...its not that much to look at when u right it down on the forums. what school do u go to??? But anyways...saying thank you after your big speech of "best hand grade" was kinda weird. The best of luck to you and gettin bigger faster and stronger.
Well I know but thast was my stats at the end of my 9th grade year and i've been working at the gym and all that and I apologize for coming off as a jerk once again and I did say if it was good or bad beut he didn't have to say..and you actually play...I mean I'm 6'2 and that's why coach wants me at tight end plus I can catch really well and I go to lake hamilton so neways sorry ya'll
later
Hey Wolf whats Cole Lorigan's 40 time???
Umm I really can't tell you but I think its somewhere around 4.6 to 4.8 it may be faster
My lil cousin runs a 4.7 for Harrisburg he 6'0 170 last year he played reciever and safety but will be in the backfield and play outside linebacker trhis year.He attended ASU camp this year with us .....................................so can any of you beat a 4.7
.............brother ran a 4.6
but not me. He was the fastest player on the team back when he was in JH
Back in my junior high days i only ran 5.1 LOL but im much faster now
Bryce Lunday... 4.65
but bruce and my brother were both running backs
Well receiver and safety are fast too...
Yeah but they usually need more size to them which tends to slow them down a lil bit more
my big brother ran a 4.5 40 when he was in HS
Was he a junior? cause I find it hard to believe anyone below that ran that unless they had a pretty good time in JH
Hey wolf80, our tight end runs a 4.6 and benches in the 250 range, so if you think you are goin to do any damage with your speed and strength, I hate to say it but your way off. And by the way, everyone in high school has good hands so that really doesn't matter. Also, Kaleb_QB8, I think you have an unhealthy obsesion with Bryce Lunday or whatever his name is. Everytime, I have gotten on this board you are talking about him. I don't care how fast he is he is 5'8, no one has ever heard of him and probably no one ever will.
Um... I think he led ALL of junior high in rushing last year... He also was mentioned on Drive Time Sports today... And by the way, there was a earlier topic that was being posted on during the season... And he was being followed and being mentioned every week... By people I didn't know... So, I think we've hear of him... And how tall was Barry Sanders??? Barry Sanders was 5'8... So hey newbie, read more post less!

This coming from the guy who has "REID IVIE IS THE BEST TIGHT END IN THE STATE!" under his avatar.
Hey Kaleb no one gives a crap about junior high football so it really doesn't matter who was talking about him. Once his little 5.8 body takes a high school hit then you can come talk to me. You can't compare some junior high running back to Barry Sanders. He was quite possibly the best running back ever and he sure as heck didn't run a 4.7. By the way, Jacket I had that there because earlier in the thread we were talking about good tight ends and I think he is one of the best.
I think you are Reid Ivie... And yes I have seen him take HS hits because I've seen him play 7 on 7 and in our spring pratice game... And in everything agaisnt seniors and what not he TORE it up
I was comparing their height... Bryce was by far the best junior high running back last year... He was for more reasons then his speed which a 4.7 is junior high is pretty good... But his stats talk for itself so have at it
hey i'm about to take hs hits everyday in august and i'm only 5'8 145lbs
and their much better than the arknasas athletes
I meant Arkansas junior high back

Ok. I hate to say this but I'm a girl in the 9th grade I'm 5'3" and I can almost bench press the same as supersoccorstud07 and datdaman. Ya'll need to quit bragging because it's sad when a girl can do better.
Aren't girls supposed to be equal? If a guy said that was sad you'd go all "What do you mean by that?!" on his rear.

Yeah, No kidding. He posted "some teams won" under this weeks predictions.
Fastest kid I have seen come out of Jr High was Toehead...Brian Martin from Hermitage. Had a legit 4.5 second 40 in the 9th grade. Hermitage plays included Toehead left, Toehead right, and Toehead up the middle. Never saw him lose an event he was in during a track meet either. I think he ran in 6 events.
Regal Johnson is very fast, he run a 4.6 in a 40 yard dash so be prepared for him to dominate those horses u get those horses ( _RiverCrest_________)

That's a great time for a 5K...you need to head to the Other Sports forum and join our discussion for XC and track if you get a chance.
Ran a 4.6 in college, not many, but had a couple on the books. I was brought in as monster man, the guy who took off on the snap, ran down and took the throat out of the punt returner. 220 lbs bearing down your exposed throat was intimitating, I made sure of it. Sometimes we took the 15 yd penalty, at the beginning of the game, to get in his head, if he was able to get up. I ran a lot of running backs down from behind. What did you run with pads on?
But life changes your perspective and races. In my 30's I ran a 46.... 40's a 2:46, now in my 50's I'm happy with a 24.6. ;)

Four different races - typical progression of an aging male. :-\
I'll be honest valley...I'd be happy with a 5.5 40 now...and I'm only 24...
Can do a mile in 12 min 30 seconds. Pretty good for someone who never was a runner and weighs 216 ha.

24 was good times for me (peak) - just finished football and could finally train without burning everything off. As you get older you have to go the distance races HF, 5K, 10K, maybe marathons.
Airwarren, just because you're a light weight is no excuse. But I know what you are saying, when I was training for the marathon I dropped to about 215 lbs and felt pretty weak for a while. Make sure to eat lots of Protein and good Carbs. ;)
Hey man, for someone who never really ran I'm thinking that's decent!
I run a mile in 7:45 right now.
When I was playing ball, one of our conditioing tests was two miles in 13 minutes. Never missed time.

Slow would be a better way to convert it.
The last 5K I trained for before running, I finished 20:32. I was ok with it, but there were several that smoked my time.

Well I recently ran a 4.5 with a sprained PCL. Wasn't told the exact time. But I was on crutches for two weeks after that. Hoo hah?

All this time I've been running a quarter mile further than everyone else? :o Actually the correct time (pulling out my calculator), if Breitontime ran a steady 7:45 mile pace over a 5K, would be 24:015.
I'm going to have to kick it up a notch, that's slow as Christmas.
Maybe have to get a sixer a week less of my beloved craft beers.
I'm sitting here procrastinating running a 5K right now Bre. Getting a starting point time - I will not be posting the results. :D Been working on 2 mile run times for a month - losing some unnecessary body weight. Another Poster has put the challenge on me. Got to get out there before it gets HOT!
The fastest mile I ran in high school was 4:40. The fastest half mile I ran was a 1:58. The fastest 5K was RIGHT under 18 minutes. Like 17:58.

Hey seriously not pulling a leg here - I think almost anyone can run distance. We might not run Almatrackster times, but I've seen it too many times. First of all you have to be moving pretty fast to be running, instead of jogging. Can you jog 10 mph for 40 yds? Then you can potentially run an 18:05 5K? It is just a matter of building endurance so that you can maintain that pace for another 3 miles. 8)

Hey I know all about endurance. I was in the army and ran the 2 mile. My fastest time was 12.34 and my slowest was at 14. The slowest was the first week in at basic. I scored 300 on almost every PT test. The 2 mile run being my weakest event.

oh I agree but some folks have it and some don't. same as not everyone can run like Bolt.
That's not a good comparison at all lol! Bolt has something not hardly anyone has got or can get, even training. Almost anyone can increase endurance - just a matter of how far they want to go with it up to a certain point, which hardly anyone ever realizes.

How about bionic legs? Do we have that technology yet?
My doctor (who's questionable) tells me that if I'd take testosterone shots, I wouldn't be as sore this morning. I also trashed the Cholesterol Prescription, he gave me, a couple of years ago (I know that's a scam).

Ha ha that's stepping the pace up pretty good Airwarren. Good Job!
You boys keep on timing....;) I'm slowly getting back in shape...and I say slowly!
Me too
Studies show that people who chart their success tend to be more successful. Trust me I've done this for 30 yrs, I have training logs over most of my life. Right now I'm using an erasable pen to write the date, weight, running times, on our bathroom mirror. Almost the first and last thing I see every day :D Keep a log.
So you have logs from years past and right now are using an erasable log?
And why am I not allowed in this section? Every time I try to post it says Error you are not allowed access to this section and I have to log back in.

no women allowed. jk
Ha ha maybe that's because of past smart aleck comments? I'm trying to encourage you youngsters :D I've done it so many times that I know exactly how my trend will go, weight loss, running, etc.. On Atkins (low carbs) I'll avg 1/2 lb per day, or 15 lbs per month..... Back when you were still a teenager, we used graphing paper at work - came in tear off sheets. So I started tracking my daily goals etc in these tablets. I made trends - Dates across the top / body weight down the side. I looked fwd to connecting that next dot trending downward. You know my schedule - I trend it, on paper, two weeks then write it on the mirror (so my wife see's it) for two weeks. ;) Here is what the layout of those trends look like, only I put dates across top and that trend line looks more like my 30 yr trend. Y'all could probably pull up an App and track it electronically in secs?
Okay....so you got me on that one. :-[ I'll add being nice to my goal list too.
I however, do not know of a woman who will write down her weight every morning for her husband too see. I may have to cheat that one to impress him instead of causing him coronary distress!
I charted today's and will continue to do so. I kinda kept up with it but charting is a good idea. I have another friend who started me on this running thing and he charts his miles, weight etc or keeps up with it anyway. I still think charting things etc. is a guy thing. :)
Diehard, men could care less what women weigh. Thats the honest truth. If men cared it would be a question asked before the first date and most definentily before the second. Its a woman thing
Weight, is irrelevant. Body fat percentage, that'd be a better one to look at.
I know girls that weigh 150-165 that are rock hard and look stunning.
Then, I know girls that weight 120 max that are flabby.
Imagine the disappointment when you get one of those out of their clothes.
When i married my wife she weighed 135 lbs and rock hard. (We were both in the army) she now weighs more im sure but looks hot as ever. Men dont care
I am running to relieve stress (which it has been doing for me) and to get in better shape to be able to take care of son. My husband says he doesn't care what I look like
What she means is - she just came in from another round of golf and she's a true Sandbagger! :o

Haha, sorry cuckoo, I wasn't trying to belittle anyone in this thread. Hope I didn't come across like that. Even though I still run most every day, I can't touch those times right now.
I think right now I could run under 6 minutes for a mile, maybe 5:30 if I'm feeling good and someone ran with me for the first half mile to push me. Cuckoo, 12:34 isn't a slow 2 mile at all. That's a 6:15 mile pace, and not many people can do that pace for just one mile.
Just some tips to maybe improve 5K times or just improve endurance (most of these are obvious):
If you're just starting out with running, push yourself, but don't kill yourself. You aren't going to become Jim Ryun in one day. Go out to a track or use a GPS tracker on a trail and just see how far you can go. It may be .25 miles, it may be 2 miles, but just push yourself a little out of your comfort zone.
DRINK WATER. A lot of it. You'll have to pee a lot at first, but you'll get over that.
As I said earlier, you'll need to push past your comfort zone. Yes, you could run a mile at say a 12:30 pace everyday and keep endurance at a steady level, but you won't really build it very fast, if at all.
Breathing correctly is important. Deep breaths are important. It's simple, the more oxygen you take in, the more you can feed your muscles. Concentrate on breathing while running. Try not to huff and puff at first, you're just making things harder on yourself.
Run on days you don't feel like it or feel "bad". I'm not saying run while you have the flu or are dehydrated, but those days where you feel a little off, still try and get out and push yourself. For one, you'll feel better at the end USUALLY. Two, I've had some of my best running days when I felt "bad".
Now in direct contrast to that last bit of advice. Rest days or easy days are important. Most runners say one day a week is great to just do no running. You don't want to have mental burnout or injuries from overuse of muscles/joints.
Strengthen your core. Most of you strong guys know this, but the core is where everything comes from. The stronger your core, the better runner you'll be.
If anyone wanted specific workouts, I'd need to more about your age and what you are trying to do. If you have questions, I'd really think about sending the user RATTLER43 a message. He is the head track and field coach at Magazine and has won a state championship and numerous conference championships. He knows much more than me.
Just remember, if you are running at all, you are lapping the people sitting on the couch ;)

Those are good shoes;)
Trackster....Appreciate the advice. +1. You will make a great coach :).
It gets harder it seems the older you get to run.....what's that saying,"Unless you puke, faint or die keep going"? I'm too hardheaded to stop :)
Nice valley! I'm going to head to the gym later and see what I can do.
So how has everyone done in the last two weeks? Airwarren are you working out in a gym? I alternate running and weights every other day. Run 2 weeks on pavement, then 2 weeks on a treadmill. This is because of my work situation, but I've found that my shin splints heal up on the treadmill, then I'm ready to hit the road again. Times are dropping and I'm thinking of maybe dragging Diehard into a half marathon, if she'll learn what it means to recoup. Even though I can still get in shape and drop those times relative quick (been running again for 3 months), I've found quality rest time is even more important in my old age.

I used to swim competitively for the Warren Waves summer team and Monticello Marlins year around league so I recently started swimming laps again. Surprisingly, the body does not forget the strokes, breathing methods, etc and I am swimming 70 laps just over an hour every 3-4 days. In a 25 meter pool a mile is 66 laps. I alternate between breast stroke, butterfly, and freestyle with sprints. I hate jogging and running but I could swim and swim when I used to be in the best shape of my life when I was on the swim team. Lost 10 lbs so far. Down from 223 to 213 in about a month and a half. I'm more interested in losing inches, gaining muscle, and not losing a whole lot of size. My wife likes a man with meat...not a rail. As soon as I start really moving in the pool, I am going to start hitting the treadmill again and doing some weights.
Plus the thing about swimming, it is hard to overheat, low impact exercise on the joints, and the need for a perfect stroke and motion makes for entire muscle systems to work. The cardiovascular benefits are awesome as well as the endurance you increase. You won't lose alot of weight from swimming but you can really tone up and lose some inches. That's what I'm shooting for.
Swimming is about the best workout you can do.
I hate it. Freshman year, at Mississippi State we had swimming workouts two days a week in the fall. They have an Olympic pool, that's 5 foot deep, we used to run sprints in there, swim laps, anything they could think of to make us do.
Kind of ruined my fondness of swimming.
My wife swam for a little while and she said the same thing. It ruined her love for being in the water. Me, not the case. I can stay in the water constantly. Some people have a love for a sport and they cannot get enough of it. Swimming is my sport that I am like that with. But that's why I qualified for the Junior Olympics at 12 and have multiple gold medals to prove it. It's the one sport I can brag about and know I was great at.
I remember my first meet that required us to swim in an olympic sized pool. It was a meet in Fort Smith when I was probably 7 or 8. It was the first time I had ever swam in a pool that size and I was scared to death. I ended up doing well in that meet though. My second time, I had no fear of it. It was at Searcy and it was an AAU meet where it was a qualifier for the national junior olympics. I remember me and 4 other swimmers from Warren were the only summer league swimmers going against year around teams from the bigger towns of Arkansas. Me and the other guy smoked the other 6 swimmers in our heat and when we got out of the pool a couple of the parents were "who and what the **** is the Warren Waves???". Needless to say, we made our mark in that meet and we both qualified to swim in Indianapolis. Good times. Our championships were always held at OBU. Loved swimming in that indoor pool. Have several High point trophies from meets there.
Thankfully Warren is blessed to have a YMCA that can be a place for a Swim team. For years we didn't field one after I quit at 14 but for the past 4 years it is going strong again averaging 75-95 kids a year. Just another sport that Warren kids excel in because we have a fantastic team.
70 laps in 55 minutes. Shaved off around 10 minutes from yesterday.
Well I enjoy swimming sorta - use the pool to get a rotator cuff in shape every summer. I dropped 10 lbs, but added some back on myself. Have to keep the bulk on, until that monster kid of mine goes to school. Looks like he might've started lifting weights.
fast?

I'm no expert, but normally when I'm having consistency problems in workouts it is usually diet related. Since getting my diet back on track I've seen consistency in workouts and consistency in my gains.

Did my practice test this morning did 58 situps, 45 pushups and ran mile and half in 11:15, it was hot, humid and it hurt!

Bonneville Speed Week. See what that V of yours really has.
Right down the street from Tech ball fields, nice job...
Valley....I knew you would find a way to cheat and try and ride your fancy motorcycle! ;D
That is the only way you could out run me. :)
You just pick the race, when, and where, then will see you die hard! ::)

You can go ahead and say Mercy. I won't hold it against you. It's better to surrender than get beat by a girl:)
Anyone watching the World Championships (I think that's what they are). Anyhow they ran the 10K in 27:21, trotted up to the mic, and interviewed like it had been a walk in the park. The last lap was ran in 53 secs.
Well.....We know your 10k isn't 27:21 but we know mine isn't either! Lol!!:)
Yeah but I could jog a 5K with three of those runners on my back! ;)
Are we posting time or talking smack? Either way:
PT Times:
12:13 2 mile (flat terrain -- per US Army standards)
18:37 3 mile (gently rolling hills -- per USMC standards)
33:42 5 mile (flat terrain)
Pullups: 22 - dead hang, none of that crossfit kipping mess. Seriously, stop wiggling around and using your feet, weight, and abs. Do a regular pullup. Did I mention I hate crossfit?
Pushups: 79 - continuous/no pause
Crunches: 100 in 2 minutes
Situps: 85 in 2 minutes
Maybe we should just start a PT thread.
Both.....Valley keeps giving me a hard time but with encouragement. He knows he would have to carry me on his back to the finish line at this point.
Those are good times but why do you hate cross fit? I have several friends that Love it. I have only ever heard positive things about it plus I know the owners work extremely hard in bringing fitness into people's lives in a life changing fun way.

When I was in the service I maxed all PT test except for the one I took while entering basic. Toward the end of my career I could max the push up and sit ups in less than a min. No need to stay down there and waste energy because you couldn't score but 100 points in each event. I did always struggle with the run though but I found a way to max it too.
The title of this thread is "How fast do you run?? Not how fast did you run when you were in the best shape of your life. So we are talking smack and challenging each other at the same time. Diehard is in training for upcoming races.
Some of us were doing Crossfit, when Crossift wasn't cool. More than 10 yrs ago. Problem is today's Crossfitters are suseptible to injury. The older you get the more you need to be careful doing quick jerk, maximum strength / fatique exercises, with muscles that are only trained once a month...

Haha. That's what I get for coming into a thread mid-15th page. Well, best of luck on your upcoming race.
Those are my current (or pretty current) times. I readily admit that for timed runs I go very early (5am). So it's not as if I am running those times in 102 degrees.
As to Crossfit. I have lived in Austin (where they are on darn near every corner) and St. Louis where they are spawning as quickly as McDonalds. I guess to me they just come off so soccer-mom/"i-did-a-5k-mud-run-and-now-i-could-kill-bin-laden".
To Valley's point. When I first heard about crossfit (say 8 years ago) I didn't even know they had brick-and-mortar locations. It was just checking the website for the WOD and posting your time.
But now it is nearly cult-ish. We have so many 25-45 demographic people flocking to it (spending money in the process) for the very simple workout they could do on their own (and they don't get in that good of shape).
My case study has been a set of friends who started the program nearly one year ago. They go three times per week. And I worked out with them last month (in the park). They carry on about cross-fit and the paleo diet all the time... come work out time:
1. They could not maintain a 7:30 mile pace;
2. Could not perform one (1) dead hang - no kipping- no rubber band pullup;
3. Appeared to lack general stamina for upper body and core exercises.
By I tell you what... they love them some paleo.
In sum, it just feels like a good idea that turned into another fad. I am very certain there are hundreds of crossfit nuts that could absolutely break me off during a workout. So bad that I would be passed out on the other side of the levy while they kept running along talking about eating some more nuts and the pros of a cave man diet.
But I find more and more these people just want to be seen at crossfit.
All in all, give me a pullup bar and some running shoes. Body weight exercises can do the rest. No faux motivation necessary.
CAVEAT: I must admit this one thing. We are a fat country. Anything that gets you off of your arse and moving is great. To that I tip my hat to crossfit. But the culture of paleo/kipping/subaru I ran a 5k mud run zombies it has created is tough to stomach. Moral of the story... if it gets you out and working out... it is better than nothing.
I'm off ye olde soapbox now.
Great post and funny lol!

Great day to run - except when I laid down in the street, the pavement wasn't warm. Kinda like stretching on warm pavement ;D Gonna be on the tractor bush hogging rest of the day, so much greener around here than it was when I went out of town 3 weeks ago. You have to appreciate this summer - especially after the drought last year.
Felt good this morning, but didn't get around to running until 11:30.. Mile 3 started getting tough, mile 4 started fighting for my life, good thing it was only a 30 min run. Crazy how much the heat takes out of you..
Hahahahaha! Blah, Blah, Blah...... ::)
What heat??? 30 min my foot.....4miles? I want proof!!! Lol
I can take a picture of my stop watch?

When you come to stuttgart you can run behind my truck on the way to macks. Its pretty close to 5 miles. Diehard can take my word for it ;)
HF that's a great idea!
It looks like I am going to have to take cuckoobirds word for it:).....something about that just seems odd! Lol!! Just kidding.

Where you a South Side Rebel?
I've found out that my 40 time has dropped several tenths depending on what I've eaten.
Are you talking about recently Wahls? I wouldn't think people would have their 40 timed outside of sports. My best time ever came one spring day. We were laying out in the sunshine, with the girls at the lake. That dreaded time came, when we had to get our lazy buts up and go to practice. All we were doing was 40 times though. I borrowed a pair of running shoes, from an assistant coach, since I was in flip flops. Was expecting my worse time ever. Guess I was running relaxed.
We all know that your times are good. No need to keep rubbing it in Valley! :)
Good thing you give advice too!

Depending on what I ate... stomach pain... running to the bathroom... get it?
I had it timed last year screwing around with some HSU football players and I think it was 4.81. Just for you Valleysports, when I get my health a little better, I'll time it again. Would be ecstatic to get under 5.00 at this point and time.
Obviously I didn't get that :D
My 40's went up pretty quick after I stopped heavy squatting, stretching, and practicing take offs in football.
HF - what can you tell us about the Zombie Challenge, in Hector, Oct. 12? :D
Not a thing.....will ask on facebook and let you know though

That explains why dad was wanting some stuff out of his truck for mom to go hunting tomorrow(Dad can't hunt anymore due to his health...so he makes mom go so he can get some deer meat). Was thinking about going myself...but the wife put an end to that.
Endurance is slowly getting better along with breathing. Hopefully speed will come later! Lol
Why are we not having a fearless friday race of some sort? Grand prize is whatever Venny has in his pockets.
I have a brother(age 24)... trying to move from marathons to ultra marathon .... He is doing a 50K next week in Grapevine, TX in the Dallas area. Then he is planning a 50 miler next fall. I have done a marathon and multiple half marathons but I don't want to ever attempt more than 26.2

Since he's on "vacation", I've got an idea....everybody should meet at exit 84 in Russellville, and Race to the last Russellville exit, at 5 p.m on a Friday. I'll be in a car, and we'll see who makes it to exit 78 first.
the reason this is a legitimate race, is that due to teh construction, the interstate becomes a parking lot around that time of day :D

Aww snap.
Anyone on here by chance doing the RussVegas Half Marathon April 26th in Russellville? Its going to be the first year for it so I am definitely excited to see if it can be a thing that stays strong on a yearly basis. I started running again back in November & I have already lost almost 15 pounds since then & I am back in the low 160's so I guess it was a good decision to start back.
Where you live beach bum? I've been running - almost back in the 260's myself!
I just moved back to Arkansas from Florida & living in Dardanelle temporarily...... I thought it was pretty cool Russellville was starting a half... its good potential to build up to a full marathon one day for the city. I mainly run in Dardanelle but occasionally hit up Bona Dea or around Tech's campus area every once in a while on my days off if I feel like driving into Russellville.
Russellville has gone absolutely running nuts. There's a race every weekend. You aren't the guy who started running on 154, a few months back? We should run Hollabend when it warms up. There are a few, on here, thinking of running that half - but they're are currently whining about the weather. LOL

Ha...for some reason I have no interest in participating in it...even though it happens a quarter mile from my house. Guess I'm lazy.

I don't do running....slow walks with the kids are my thing. I'm only 25, and already having issues with my knees....swelling, inflammation, constant dull ache. Guessing that's beginning signs of arthritis?
But out of curiousity what kind of running shoes would someone recommend for someone already having knee pains? 5K is about the distance from my house to my mom's....wouldn't hurt to lose my beginnings of belly...okay it's more than a beginnings, the recliner and home cooking has not been my friend the past few years.
Most peoples knees, and back, start hurting because they lose the strength around the knees and strength in core. Squats is what keeps my knees and back in good shape. Squats are the last thing you'd do, isn't it? These days doctors are subscribing running to fight off arthritis - more so in healthy parts of the country. The light has come on. Basically if you don't use it - you lose it.
Ibuprofen 3 times a day (for swelling) - ice (15 mins) - squats once a week - and a specific knee brace (rope below/above knee) to align your knee cap until you get the secondary muscles / ligaments around your knee strong again. * See Diehard for testimonial.
I like Asics.
I'm willing to try anything. . . . Dad's knees were so bad the army wouldn't take him back in the 70's so i'm fighting genetics to. . . . Makes sense what you say cause my knee problems have gotten worse since my bike crapped out on my 4 or so years ago . . .
You could try the Jeff Galloway program....it's kinda easy on the knees at first. It consists of walk run ratios and you gradually build from there. It helped me and I had to be told that rest days are important too. I tried to push myself to quickly, and soon realized that it takes time. I'm a woman so I don't have a lot of patience...lol! :) Just start somewhere, and get an app like mapmyrun or a watch to help track your time and distance. Seeing your workouts helped push me to beat or better my time and distance....and get a friend to encourage you. It helps. Good luck!

it happens to everyone at some point. I honestly thought when I started back, I was going to go out and run a couple of miles....NO! I didn't even make it half a lap...and was completely winded. I couldn't breathe...and I would exhaust quickly....but I was stubborn enough to not stop. Just keep moving, walk if you have too....who cares? It's your body and I'll admit I had to tweak the workout plans to fit my needs and fitness level. Now, I enjoy my runs....it's my time and my thoughts and no one can take that away from me. It has really helped me, especially here lately to reduce stress and I am so Thankful for my friend encouraging and pushing me....and I've made several friends since then who run. It's amazing how runners are so supportive of one another. You can do it HF if I can! :)

1,000 miles in a year is a great club to get into! Congrats!! That is pretty neat Fort Smith is getting a marathon. I lived there a while. Russellville got its first half marathon last year in late April that I assume they will add a marathon onto in the future. The half was incredibly successful its first year. I am attempting a race called the Collegiate Peaks 25 Miler in early May here in Colorado. I am absolutely terrified even though I have done marathons due to the elevation rise up 3,000 feet twice during the race. It starts at 8,000 feet and hits 11,000 feet twice. Luckily, the last 7 miles are a slight down hill. Before I came out here 3 months ago I could go 18 miles strong in 2 hr 5 min on the weekend long run. It has taken me 3 months to build back to that distance and not as fast of a time in the elevation here in Colorado.
Have you ever did any virtual runs? Some are for a great cause......I actually have done a few and enjoy them because it allows you to stay home and run for charity. 18 miles is a good distance especially in less than 3hrs. I run 13miles in around 2hours.
I ran across the room last night, and I'm still breathing heavy
Lol! Well, it's a start!!
I have a colonoscopy scheduled for next month - talking about running fast - dreading the prep!!
"I'm gettin' pretty tired. Think I'll go home now"
"Run along then". Prayers for a safe trip home 12th Man.

Good Luck with that....have had that procedure before!
I appreciate that, PL!
Just ask the nurse to pull your finger at the appropriate time. ::)

My friend works at a school in South America.... I could not stop laughing after he sent me this picture today of their first track meet since its spring down there. The grass track and the bare foot kid just made me laugh so hard. Imagine running the 400m on a grass track??
That's pure right there Beach Bum. Go run 100 yd sprints on a grass football field and see how you like it - if you can still find a grass football field. I'm sure you've seen the studies on how good barefoot running is. Reason someone developed those running barefoot shoe things. Get's you off your heels and properly balanced on the balls of your feet.

Exactly, I constantly had little nagging things go on with my right leg from about age 18 to 22 (mostly knee issues though)...... Made the change to only doing at least 70% of my miles on natural surfaces and never had problems the last 5 years.
Some people like running that way better. I have ran at the track barefoot a couple of times. It definitely makes you take notice in the feel of how you are running.

+ 1000 ;D
Ha! I do both, honestly....I'm sure most women and wives do.
True story
Was at a track meet in jr high one time and there was a team there (which shall remain nameless) that was absolutely terrible. We lined up for the 100 and one of their runners took off before the gun and made it all the way down to the finish line without realizing no one else was running. After he came back to the starting line and actually ran in the race some of the guys on our team asked him how fast he ran the hundred...he looked them dead in the face as serious as could be and said..."as fast as I can". It was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen and heard at a track meet.
It had to be Farmington. All there guys were 4.3 40
after 11 years I rechecked my 40 time and now I run a 6.9
