In your opinion(s), what was the greatest high school game that you've either played in or watched as a fan?

PS: Happy July 4th everyone! Be safe.

BigLion10

The two greatest I've seen was the Hazen Carlisle 3OT game for the conference crown in 2010, and a few years ago we beat mccrory 66-64 in 4 OT in the playoffs at mccrory great game

Hgalum50

I would say CHG vs. then #1 McGehee in 12 or CHG vs. #1 Rivercrest in 10

Hampton vs mt ida last year.....

Hector @ Harding academy in 2nd round 3a playoffs 2006... Down 22-6 at half Hector lost 35-29 in double ot

Prescott at Harding academy in 2015

Smackover vs Charleston in 2014

Magazine vs strong in 2010.... Kenneth Dixon went nuts and gave eventual state champs everything they wanted in an 8 point game (noone else played them closer than 21 in the playoffs)

mtindian42

(Watched) Shiloh Christian at junction city. That game had a little of everything in it!

Truly great to watch.  Dixon was in beast mode the entire second half.

Great game... our coached called y'all scoring on a screen pass if we didn't pay attention to it and the 2nd play after half went 60+ yards

X2 and the DA JC champ game won by JC on last second field goal.

Of course, I'm a little biased maybe, but...

Rison ending Barton's 49 game win streak in state championship game.
Rison defeating Shiloh Christian with a game winning 2 pt conversion to win another state title.

Non Rison: Basil Shabazz going absolutely crazy on Texarkana in state championship game. Shabazz pretty much did whatever he wanted to.

Ventman

Not high school but the '89 Arkansas vs Houston game in LR. It was awesome!

Augusta defeating Marked Tree 54-52 in five over times.    Homecoming 2013 at Augusta.

Marked Tree scored on a trick play,  99 yard touchdown pass to open the scoring.

The Indians later led 20-6 before Augusta tied it right before halftime.

Marked Tree scored first in the second half to make it 28-20 while Augusta scored to tie late in the fourth quarter along with a two point conversion.

Marked Tree was then stopped just short of the endzone as time expired but Augusta drew an unsportsmanlike (celebration penalty) which was assessed in overtime.

Augusta took the ball first in OT from the 25 yard line (due to penalty) and scored but missed their two point conversion.

Marked Tree took the ball at the 10 in their OT possession and scored but missed the game winning extra point.

34-34 going in to the second OT.

Marked Tree quickly scored but missed the conversion to go up 40-34.

Augusta took their possession and scored but missed their two point attempt by inches.

Entering 3rd OT.  40-40.

Augusta fumbled the ball to Marked Tree on the second snap.

Marked Tree began their possession at the 10,  but lost 1 yard on three plays.

On fourth from the 11,   Marked Tree attempted a field goal.

The kick failed but Augusta was flagged for offsides.

Ball moved to the 6 for another Marked Tree field goal.

The kick failed but Augusta was flagged for offsides.

Ball moved to the 1,   Marked Tree elected to go for a touchdown.   Augusta stopped them  short.

Entering fourth OT.   40-40.

Marked Tree scored but missed the two point conversion.

Augusta scored but missed (barely) the two point conversion.

Entering fifth OT score 46-46.

Augusta had the ball first and scored on third down.   Then made a two point conversion.

Score 54-46

Marked Tree scored a touchdown on 4th down.   54-52.

The Indians of course went for the two point conversion.

But exhausted Red Devil defenders ran over equally exhausted Indian offense and sacked the Marked Tree QB as he rolled to the right.

Augusta finished 4-6 that year and Marked Tree 6-4 if I recall correctly.

Mediocre based on records but hardly terrible.

According to this

http://www.hootens.com/12-23-2013/Class-2A-Week-16-2013/5589.html

There were 17 teams worse than Augusta that year.       Including a couple of playoff teams.

For that matter,   Marked Tree made the playoffs.

first off both MT and Augusta get mercy ruled by JC in the first 6 minutes of the game that year. With that said this was a heck of a battle between 2 schools that were evenly matched...just because schools are not at the top doesn't mean they can play in great games!

Though I wasn't there and it was a few years ago, the Rison-Fordyce game in 1991 had to be a great game. Both teams had won State Championships in 1990. Traditionally, the Rison-Fordyce game is the opener for both teams. In the 1991 game, they played to a 21-21 tie Then both went undefeated winning State Championships in 1991.

Anyone here attend or play in that game? If so, tell us about it.

I was at the end of the streak. Only two teams that beat lil ole Gillett that year and most of our 30 man roster were wildcat cheerleaders that night. And wasn't it a 56 game win streak?

M.I. D

Being from Mount Ida and not missing many games at all the last 15 years. 2002 vs Gurdon in the 2nd round of playoffs was a great comeback. 2016 state title vs Hampton was a great win and one we wont forget. The 2007 state title game vs Bearden was a classic kicking a field goal to win with 9 sec left. Many others. Thumping Rison at Rison in the 3rd round in 02 was awesome. For different reasons 07 and 2016 state title games top my list.

you was getting a cheep shot in lol. You played the game you know better then what you posted truth! You was trolling! Look at what your basing your standards off of! What school could meet those standards? Not all of us have the luxury to base who is good and who is bad off of what could quite possibly be the greatest football program at the 2a level to ever come out of this state!

JC Guy

I have been blessed to see some really good games the past several years. With JC on the roll it was on they faced some quality teams that brought the A game in 12, 13 and 14. Best in 12 would be the championship game with the Bears, 13 would have been the slobber knocker in Eldorado with Carlise, 14 the Bucks came to the border town and played JC physical and close. The Haynesville game in 15 was a mans game also (very physical). I think I have all the years correct on that.

I wasn't in attendance, but:

Bad part is U$C homer announcers.

One of the best ones I saw was the 2006 Bearden @ JC game.  Dragons were down by 22 at the half and came back and won the thing in regulation.

I was there, can't remember too many details except it was a typical hard fought Rison/Fordyce game. The previous year, 4 of the state champions were all along the same highway within about a 50 mile stretch: Pine Bluff, Dollarway, Fordyce and Rison.

Bearden at Strong 2012.

IIRC Bearden was number one ranked.    Strong wasn't.

Bearden's team historian later described it as one of the most brutal,  hardest hitting games ever played.   Both sides lost players with season ending injuries including Bearden's QB.

Bearden won 26-22 IIRC.    On the winning touchdown pass,  the ball bounced off two Strong players before the Bearden receiver corralled it.
