It's not rumor it's real. We heard about it at a parents meeting. The final vote will come in June. People hate the blended conferences, it makes for some difficult travel. The new classifications will encompass all sports. There will be no more 7A. The Top 18 schools in the 5A will jump to 6A. Wynne and Batesville having low end enrollment numbers will stay 5A. The top 36 4A teams will jump up to 5A. 4, 3 and 2 A will melt into 2 classification. Even with low attendance numbers PA and LRCA will jump to 6A, the financial aid rumblings have become too loud to ignore. No 6A teams will drop down. Also in playoffs the games will try to accommodate and East/West format to limit travel. For example Wynne/Batesville/Blytheville wouldn't meet Hope or Alma until the final. Has anyone else heard this ? from what we heard it's not a possibility, it's all but a done deal.

There seems to be some confusion on how many teams will be in each class if 7a is dropped.

From what I was told, not 100% sure, they will not be equal classes. The 5A would be the largest. Have you heard anything at all. This info came from a very high up on the school board, it was shared in a "what's new in school business" type parent meeting. Obviously when your talking about a couple hundred people attending there was no mention of "don't tell anyone".

Heard it would be broke down
6a top 16
5a next 32
4a next 48
3a next 64
2a next 64
1a remaining schools

This would be for all sports except football.

They should be the same for every sport. Make it simple. Make it the same across the board. They are doing way too much.

The blended conferences is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen or heard of. Makes absolutely no sense. If you don't want to travel you shouldn't be involved in sports. Period. There will be some games close to home and there will be some games far away from home. That's a part of it.

Based on the current student counts in Arkansas, setting a fixed number of schools in a classification prior to seeing the actual student counts is putting the cart before the horse.  AAA has to break away from the fixation of placing X number of teams in a classification because it creates nice round numbers and create classifications that reflect the ability of schools within the classification to compete.

When the numbers are published, which should be within a week or two, the number crunching should begin.

Could always use alma tracksters numbers to get a bit of a head start
