Yes I cleared a few post off this thread in case you're missing them. Call me a Mod-Nazi if you wish, but the subject matter could only go down hill and I don't want to have to shut the thread down.

Would anyone really care?
Actually, that's very close to how I moderate. Not "Would anyone really care" but more "Would I care". It's rare that I step in to enforce board rules, that's for board mods and admin. When I see an individual being addressed, I ask myself "Would I care". If an anonymous person made this negative assertion about me that by the policies of my employer or by my position in the school system I'm not allowed to address, would I care? If the answer is "YES" the post gets deleted and I always take credit for doing so. I feel that if the poster is truly committed to letting their opinion be known, perhaps they should contact the individual and air our their complaint.

backatyou

I wonder how well that would work out for the poster who had sons or daughters trying to play?

That's actually a valid and understandable point, but it falls back on what I said about how truly committed a person is to letting their opinion be known. We pick our battles and with each choice we make there are consequences. Sometimes the fight's worth it, other it's best to just keep our thoughts to ourselves. On this board though, it's one sided and I'll fend for the unaccounted.

Unfortunately, the GW boys team might rival that record and stats.

I think they play hard and don't discount the effort, but just not enough there to work with and commitment to the program as in other sports or something.

Burks

Question? Why don't the GW Boys Coach recruit a couple of football players to play Basketball? Several Coaches have won State Titles with a mixture of basketball and football players.

Its not like their playing a bunch of bad teams.  MSM is bad this year, but all these other teams are pretty good!  Alma is down this year and playing in a tough league.  Cut em some slack.

Shagnasty

Your obviously not from Alma. Alma has been down for years and talent is not the problem. :-\ but that's all that is allowed to be mentioned in Alma. >:( >:(

As long as they continue to fill their non-con schedule with 2 and 3A opponents, they will not compete in the 6A/7A. So sad for the girls and the families that have to endure this year in and year out. This actually is the best record that they have had in the past several years.

This isn't true, since Alma made the playoffs in 5A last year.

What was the record last year?

8-6 in conference last year. Not sure of non conference, but very comparable to this year.

Sorry if I'm wrong I was talking about overall and pretty sure that they had a losing record last year worse than this year so far . Does not matter. Same song different year no matter how anyone sugar coats it.

how deep they make it in the state tournament?

backatyou

I would think the best indicators for a programs success would be the support from the community which it represents, the attraction and retention of players, and some sort of consistency in its record, along with highly motivated student section, heck we know we have the finest facility in the state we pay for that every year!

AT

Alma travels to Bryant tomorrow. I don't see it as being a very likely win for the ladies as Bryant knocked off Greenwood's girls not too long ago.

The boys big game is next Tuesday against Siloam Springs, but this one has some implications of it's own. The Bryant game at Alma was very chippy for two teams that have no history with each other. I'm sure Bryant remembers and it should be an intense game Friday night.

Yes, they have kids to worry about on buses on slick roads. They would have rescheduled if Conway didn't have a full schedule already.

AT

It seems that Alma-Conway will not be rescheduled since state is next week and Conway is already playing a game tomorrow. I won't put it on the original post yet, but looks like it will just be a cancelled game. Neither team forfeited from what I've heard.

I am somewhat surprised that AAA doesn't require all conference games to be played - is there nothing at stake in this game?

Nope. Neither team can win a conference championship. The game won't matter in terms of the playoffs.

Alma basketball since 2009:

2009 - Win conference, lose in first round of playoffs
2010 - Win conference, win 2 playoff games, lose in semi-finals
2011 - Win conference, win state championship
2012 - Win conference, win 1 playoff game, lose in quarterfinals
2013 - Tied for 2nd in conference, win 3 playoff games, lose in state finals
2014 - Tied for 3rd in conference, lose in first round
2015 - 2nd in conference, 1st in classification, at least 1 win and semi-finals.

Plus there was 2005 when Alma won conference and state. Pretty good.

Playoff record since 2009:

Since 2005:

15-5

Scrappy team. I hope they pull off another tough game Tuesday.

Wish I could make it! Going to interesting game hard to call since I've never seen Alma play. To be honest PB is playing with house money...no way were we suppose to be in the semis! Still if we go out and play like we have nothing to loose...I like our chances.

I hear PB is big (no surprise). They had a great run to get this far, I do hope the Dales pull it out though. It ought to be a good game and ZD is right Z's weren't penciled in to be here by many, so no reason not to go all in at this point.

Exactly! I for one didn't think PB would get past Parkview...no one did. But like ZD said, they're playing with house money. Put it all out there and go for it.

Big but not really we only have two players that are taller than 6'-3" but boy the two we have! Put it this way All-State 4* DE John Tate is the baby! Sission is about 6'-5" maybe 6'-6" and he is much bigger than Tate! Both are very athletic for their size with excellent hands and they know how to use their body. I've never seen them on the court at the same time so it gives us a nice inside rotation that keeps the pressure on in the paint.

Wow, just saw one of the worsts calls I've ever seen that led to a Pine Bluff 3-point play.  Sequence of events:

1.) Pine Bluff player penetrates and runs into Folkerts.  A blocking foul was correctly called as Folkerts got there late.

2.) The player who penetrated dumped the pass off to his big man after he made contact with Folkerts.  Pine Bluff's big made the layup but not until AFTER the blocking foul was called on Alma.

3.)  Somehow the player who penetrated got to go to the FT line for one attempt to complete a 3P play.  Meaning Pine Bluff completed a 3P play with two different players.  The player who penetrated and drew the foul should've been shooting two FTs.

To be blunt, it was one of the worst calls I've seen in a long, long time.  Not that it effected the final outcome of the game, because it didn't.  Pine Bluff was clearly the better team today and deserved to win.

On another note, that game was a slogfest.  Both teams got called for every little bit of contact the entire game.  It was one of those games where the officials might've had just as much of an impact on the game (both ways) as the kids, meaning they really didn't just let the kids play and decide the game themselves.

Congrats to Pine Bluff on a well-played game.  That was a much deserved win.

60 plus fouls called between the two teams, I heard. Ouch!

Yeah I heard the officiating was not good BOTH WAYS!

Unbelievable season Coach Finely is Coach of Year regardless of what happens in the Championship. To take this team this far with practically no seniors and 1 returning starter from last year....
