The Bruins are going for their fourth straight championship, which has only been done by Barton from 1986 through 1989 in the modern playoff era which began in 1968. ... Senior quarterback Layne Hatcher already owns state records for 15,059 career passing yards and 182 career touchdown passes, and 5,355 single-season passing yards, and 737 single-game passing yards against Little Rock Christian earlier this season. ... Hatcher has thrown for 63 touchdown passes this season.

The Lions are making just their fourth appearance in a state championship game, losing to Pulaski Academy, 50-30, two years ago, losing to Pine Bluff in 1994, and beating Hot Springs in 1971. ... McClellan and Pulaski Academy are both members of the 5A-Central but McClellan will move to the 5A-South next season. ... McClellan played all three of its playoff games on the road, winning at Batesville, 16-12, in a defensive struggle, then at Alma, 60-52, in a high-scoring affair, and last week at Wynne, 22-14, last week.

This year's group of seniors at PA have had quite a career. They are 40-1 since their 10th grade year. While I'm not positive on this, it's my understanding they were undefeated in 7th, 8th and 9th grade. So this class is about 64-1 since 7th grade, with one loss their first game as 10th graders when few even played.

These seniors were finishing 6th grade when I left for Harrison.  I believe they were undefeated in 5th and 6th grade as well.  Also, I've been told that Hatcher has not lost a wrestling match in his high school career if you need any more evidence for the type of competitor he is.

How about Coach Kelley's record: 178-25-1 (average of 11.9 WINS and 1.7 LOSSES)...and a 75% winning percentage in the playoffs!!!  That is nuts!

If you take Hatcher's football and wrestling record, he's like 175-1.
