Title: 2017 Wrestling Thread
Post by: VHSCoach2 on January 29, 2016, 11:06:53 am
Or am I all alone?  :(

I have quite a few friends who are still into wrestling, but most people I know stopped watching after the Stone Cold Steve Austin/The Rock 'Attitude Era' days.

So, anybody else on FF still into wrestling at all?

I got back into it when I saw an advertisement for Lesnar/Taker at Summerslam back in August. Got the free trial, watched that PPV, and was sold. I watch Raw most weeks and catch all the PPVs with my brother who is PPV only now days. Bought tickets to Wrestlemania in Dallas to see Taker in what will probably be his last match.

The New Day are amazing and are the reason my wife will watch this stuff with me.

My grandpa was a huge wrestling fan. We watched every pay-per-view they had. My favorite was always Ric Flair. He was so much fun to watch

If Strowman pins Taker at WM32 I might get myself kicked out of there haha. Goodness I hope John Cena's wolverine like healing powers kick in.

Daniel Bryan retired today. I'm sad he wrestled exclusively during my lapsed fandom, I've really enjoyed watching his matches on the Network.

Titus O'Neil has been suspended for upwards of 90 days by WWE for 'unprofessional conduct.'

At the end of Raw this past Monday night, after Daniel Bryan's retirement speech, Vince McMahon was leaving the stage and O'Neil grabbed his arm.  On TV, it showed Vince shoving him away and it appeared that they were joking around, but apparently not.

Title: Re: Any Wrestling Fans on FF?

90 days? Jeez. Something must have happened backstage after, I can't see getting a three month layoff for that grab alone.
Title: Re: Any Wrestling Fans on FF?
Post by: VHSCoach2 on February 10, 2016, 12:17:18 pm
Well, now it's being said that it has been lowered to 60.

Still, 60 is the amount of days that people in WWE get for two failed drug tests.  60 seems a bit much for a simple arm grab.

From twitter:

John Cena ✔ @JohnCena
Gamble: take risky action in hope of a desired result. Time to gamble I think. It's gonna be a risky next two weeks #LaceUp #nevergiveup

If Cena is able to make it back for Wrestlemania he needs to donate his body to science after his death.

What even was that ending? I am not a big Roman Reigns fan but I could accept that he was going to win the match but to get up moments after taking three chair shots to win? Ridiculous.
Title: Re: Any Wrestling Fans on FF?
Post by: VHSCoach2 on February 22, 2016, 08:44:26 am
Overall, that show was good. The ending of the main event was pointless. Why even let Ambrose destroy Reigns with a chair if Reigns gets up five seconds later to hit a spear for the win?

The upcoming cities that are hosting Raw are going to boo Reigns out of the building: Detroit, Brooklyn, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia...

I loved that they muted the crowd mics and you could STILL hear the boos. Goodness. I want to like Roman, I really do, but you can't give me that as an ending.

WWE put up a poll on facebook asking if people enjoyed Fastlane. 8300 no, 1800 yes.

WrestleMania began to shape up quite nicely tonight.

Undertaker vs. Shane McMahon in a HIAC match.

Dean Ambrose vs. Brock Lesnar in a No Holds Barred Street Fight

Unused to be a big Stone Cold fan back in the day. Loved the old Memphis wrestling. If you ever watched that there is a documentary called Memphis Heat I believe that is abou the history of Memphis wrestling. They have some of the old timers telling stories and stuff. Pretty good watch.

Man. I can't believe how awesome Raw was for the most part last night. They really knocked it out of the park.

I screamed OH MY GOD at my television when "Here comes the money" hit. I never would have expected that. There were rumblings around the internet that the award presentation was gonna be "Christmas come early" but I never knew how badly I wanted to see Shane O Mac's return.

Then the crowd popping when Triple H posed with the belt after he beat down Roman, wow. It almost looked like it took Trips by surprise. He probably hasn't been cheered like that since he was in DX.

My buddy got our Axxess/NXT/Hall of Fame/WrestleMania/Raw confirmation email today.  Seems like we will have excellent seats for all events during WrestleMania weekend.

$1,250 (per person) well spent in my opinion, considering we got tickets to two Axxess sessions, NXT, Hall of Fame, WrestleMania, and Raw, plus hotel and transportation costs included in the $1,250.

This will be my second WrestleMania and Hall of Fame, but my first Axxess and NXT show.

Roadblock was pretty good, as was Raw last night.

But, man oh man, those boos for Roman Reigns as soon as his music hit and when he was beating down Triple H.

Not looking good for him at WrestleMania.

I will give WWE credit; they have salvaged a pretty stacked card for WrestleMania despite all of the injuries that have occurred.

I really don't care about Triple H vs. Roman Reigns or Kalisto vs. Ryback, but everything else looks good to great.

The final card:

Preshow: Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal:
Heath Slater, Curtis Axel, Adam Rose, Bo Dallas, The Big Show, Kane, Tyler Breeze, and 13 others yet to be named.

Preshow: The Dudley Boyz vs. The Usos

WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match:
Triple H vs. Roman Reigns

WWE Intercontinental Championship 7-Man Ladder Match:
Kevin Owens vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Sami Zayn vs. Zack Ryder vs. Stardust vs. Sin Cara vs. The Miz

WWE United States Championship Match:
Kalisto vs. Ryback

WWE Divas Championship Triple Threat Match:
Charlotte vs. Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks

4-on-3 Handicap Match
The League of Nations (Sheamus, Rusev, King Barrett, Alberto Del Rio) vs. The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods) *-Note: WWE hasn't said if this is for the WWE Tag Team Championship or not

He__ in a Cell Match: If Shane wins, he gets control of WWE and Undertaker is never allowed to wrestle at WrestleMania again
Shane McMahon vs. The Undertaker

No Holds Barred Street Fight:
Brock Lesnar vs. Dean Ambrose

AJ Styles vs. Chris Jericho

Ten-Diva Tag Team Match:
Lana, Naomi, Tamina, Summer Rae, & Emma vs. Brie Bella, Paige, Alicia Fox, Natalya, and ???

I want to go to the pre show but 6 hours just seems so long, especially when I have to drive straight home afterwards. There are a few matches I am eh about but I have a clear rooting interest in all of them so that is good.

I bet the HIAC finishes the show since it has the biggest stakes, which makes me nervous it is going to end with 22-2  :(

What were your impressions of TakeOver: Dallas?

I can tell you that being there live was probably the second-best wrestling experience I've ever had in person (behind WrestleMania 25). It was an awesome atmosphere all night long.

On the short list of Match of the Year candidates for this year so far, Sami Zayn vs. Shinsuke Nakamura tops the list, without a shadow of a doubt.

Axxess was a ton of fun, too! I met Becky Lynch on the second day! Probably the most down-to-earth, sweetest person that I met of the handful that I actually did meet.

I know the Internet Wrestling Community is talking about how bad Wrestlemania was but I had a blast being there in person. Yeah, once I got home and thought about the implications of the matches, a lot of the results didn't make sense (Jericho over Styles, Charlotte retaining with Ric's interference for the 100th time, Lesnar completely squashing Dean after all the talk of how Dean was going to just keep getting up), granted, but the event itself was a fun time and the quality of the matches for the most part was high.

Really enjoyed Raw last night as well. Sad I couldn't have been there in person.

From the clips I've seen since, Mick looked kinda sad.  I mean, he's been open and honest about being pretty broken down by all the insanity he went through over the years, but it was really clear in the way he limped down the ramp.  I'm almost surprised he'd risk the off chance of something happening, even in a situation like that.

WWE is splitting up the roster between Raw and Smackdown on Monday, July 11th.  Just like they did over a decade ago when Eric Bischoff was in charge of Raw and Paul Heyman was in charge of Smackdown.

In addition, Smackdown will move from Thursday's to Tuesday's starting July 19th and will air live instead of being taped.

I used to really enjoy the old school stuff. Best period of wrestling in my opinion was the 2002-2007 era. It has REALLY went down in my opinion, especially when the TV-14 was dropped and they wanted a rated G program. This was a mans soap opera, dumbing it down and making it weaker didn't do much for me. If they ever go back go to that I mignt watch again, but for now im okay without it.

I'm interested to see what they are going to do with Roman Reigns following his suspension for a wellness policy violation. His 30 days is up 3 days before the Battleground pay-per-view next month, where he is scheduled to challenge Dean Ambrose for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in a match also featuring Seth Rollins.

Do they remove Roman from the match, or let him keep his spot despite failing a drug test?

Well as of now they still have him in all the promos and online ads for it but personally Id like to see Ambrose and Rollins go at it one V one but I imagine Reigns will probably still be in the match, Id be shocked If they let him win it back so fast. Id like to see Ambrose keep it at least a few months since He is alot more Exciting and Fresh then Reigns is anyways, Would  not mind Seeing Seth Rollins have it back for a lengthy time either although I feel He will probably be split from the other two after the Draft. I imagine they will create a 2nd world title again for the Brand split anyways.

I think he should sit out as well.. if it was a mid card guy or a jobber they would be nowhere near a ppv ring but Roman is kinda Vince McMahon's guys so we shall see. I also am not a huge fan.. I dont think he is as bad as some make him out to be but I do think there are plenty of more talented guys on the roster.

New women's champion in Sasha Banks
2 fatal four ways with the winners facing each other in the main event to determine the number one contender for the new universal championship against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam with Roman Reigns and Fin Balor winning.

Then in the main event Balor defeating Reigns

For the second week in a row, Smackdown knocked it out of the park and was much better than Raw.

Here's the updated SummerSlam card:

Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton

WWE Universal Championship Match: Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins

WWE World Championship Match: Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler

WWE Women's Championship Match: Sasha Banks (c) vs. Charlotte

WWE Intercontinental Championship Match: The Miz (c) vs. Apollo Crews

AJ Styles vs. John Cena

WWE Tag Team Championship Match: Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods (c) vs. Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows

Big Cass and Enzo Amore vs. Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens

WWE United States Championship Match: Rusev (c) vs. Roman Reigns

That's 5 matches for the Raw brand, 3 for Smackdown, and 1 interpromotional match.  Hopefully the Smackdown women get a match added to the card; I'm guessing it'll be Becky Lynch vs. Eva Marie.

Smackdown 3
Raw 1

Match of the Night was AJ Styles vs. John Cena.  Nothing came close.

I am very disappointed that WWE had Nikki Bella get the win for her team, but considering she's Cena's girlfriend, I expected it.  Also disappointed that Sasha Banks lost the title, but she needs to take time off for injuries that she has had for a while now. However, I am glad they gave time to the women's matches. They got just at 25 minutes combined.

And I am tired of Brock Lesnar.  It won't be a day too soon when his contract expires and he decides not to re-sign.

Other notes: I'm glad the 12-Man Tag Match featuring Smackdown's tag teams got time to shine (almost 15 minutes) and I'm glad that Dean Ambrose retained his title.

Alexa Bliss, Becky Lynch, Carmella (who turned heel tonight on Smackdown), Naomi, Natalya, and Nikki Bella will do battle in a Six-Pack Challenge for the Smackdown Women's Champion.

The Tournament Finals will take place to crown the first Smackdown Tag Team Champions.

Dean Ambrose will defend the WWE World Championship against AJ Styles.

IT'S THE KEVIN OWENS SHOW!

What a Raw tonight (for the most part)!  Owens is the new Universal Champion, Triple H returns and turns on Seth Rollins and Stephanie McMahon to help Owens win.

I'm highly intrigued as to where this is leading. Maybe Triple H leading the NXT guys and gals that have been called up?

Smackdown better be fantastic this week if it wants to make it 5 weeks in a row over Raw.

Smackdown was pretty good last night, but Raw was the overall better show this week.

The build for Smackdown's Basklash PPV on September 11th continued and there are now five matches confirmed for the event.

1) WWE World Championship Match: Dean Ambrose vs. AJ Styles

2. Six-Pack Challenge Match to crown the inaugural WWE Smackdown Women's Champion: Alexa Bliss vs. Becky Lynch vs. Carmella vs. Naomi vs. Natalya vs. Nikki Bella

3. Tournament Final Match to crown the inaugural WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions: American Alpha or The Usos vs. The Hype Bros or Rhyno and Heath Slater

4. Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt

5. WWE Intercontinental Championship Match: The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler

While I have never broken down when meeting wrestlers, it's always a fun experience to meet them.  All of the ones I have met have always been so nice and grateful, especially earlier this year in Dallas.

I only saw Raw from 8:15 to the end of the show last night. It was refreshing to only have to sit through two hours of it rather than the full three.

The show was still rather dull, though. I mean, they already had Bayley eat a pin? Sasha Banks should have pinned Dana Brooke...

And they had Enzo Amore lose to Epico? Really?

At least we get Sami Zayn vs. Chris Jericho at Clash of Champions. That should be a great match!

Raw was alright last night.  Seth Rollins vs. Rusev, Sasha Banks and Bayley vs. Charlotte and Dana Brooke, Cesaro vs. Sheamus, Rich Swann vs. Gran Metalik vs. Cedric Alexander vs. Brian Kendrick, and Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns were pretty good.

Not sure why they had Reigns go over Owens in the main event, though. It is my personal belief that the main champion should never lose on the weekly television shows, unless it is to build up the next challenger. Well, Reigns isn't the next challenger so it was pointless.

I have a feeling the two announced matches for Smackdown tonight (John Cena vs. Dean Ambrose and The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship) will be leaps and bounds better than all of the Raw matches, though.

Anyway, here is the final card for this Sunday's Raw PPV, Clash of Champions:

Preshow: Alicia Fox vs. Nia Jax

1. Match 7 in the Best-of-7 Series: Cesaro vs. Sheamus

2. Chris Jericho vs. Sami Zayn

3. WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match: T.J. Perkins vs. Brian Kendrick

4. WWE Raw Tag Team Championship Match: The New Day vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson

5. WWE Raw Women's Championship Triple Threat Match: Charlotte vs. Bayley vs. Sasha Banks

6. WWE United States Championship Match: Rusev vs. Roman Reigns

7. WWE Universal Championship Match: Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins

Smackdown was once again the better show this week from top to bottom.

Fun fact: Dean Ambrose pinning John Cena last night was Cena's first clean pin fall or submission loss on Raw or Smackdown in almost SEVEN YEARS. The last time Cena lost clean on either show was on Raw on October 19, 2009 in a match against Triple H.

Clash of Champions was very good on Sunday, but Raw was, once again, a drag to get through last night.

It seemed as though the writers had the mindset of, "Well, we're going against Monday Night Football AND the Presidential Debate tonight...might as well make this a throwaway show."

And they did just that.

I mean, it deserves to main event.  It's the only one of the three Cell matches that has been going on for the majority of the year.

Back in the day, these Cell matches were used to blow off a feud such as the one Sasha and Charlotte are having.  In my opinion, neither Roman Reigns vs. RUsev nor Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins should be in the Cell, but it is what it is these days.

My statement above was directed more to the approach of how far women's wrestling has come since debut of Charlotte, Sasha and Becky.  While Becky Lynch is doing the best she can with what she has on Smackdown, Charlotte and Sasha Banks have completely transformed our views on what used to be a dumpster fire of a 'divas' division.

With the addition of Bayley, one can only hope for a Sasha/Bayley III at this year's Wrestlemania.

The Raw main event scene is wierd at the moment for me.  I love Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins. I also think Jericho has done a fantastic job lately with his position as well, he continues to change my mind on why he should be considered as one of the greatest of all time in the business.

It just feels like something is missing, doesn't it?

I actually prefer Smackdown's Women's Division over Raw's.  Actually, I prefer everything about Smackdown over Raw, but that's for another discussion.

With Smackdown's women, they just go out there and wrestle. It seems like the writers for Smackdown don't care about having their women go out and say, "This is what I am doing to help the 'Women's Revolution'" or "Look at me, I'm a proper women's wrestler who deserves what she has gotten." They just go out there and prove it every Tuesday night. Also, it helps that there are two distinct, different women's feuds going on at the Blue Brand right now. You have the consensus favorite in Becky Lynch, as the Smackdown Women's Champion, facing the young and hungry number one contender in Alexa Bliss, who doesn't take crap from anybody (fans, ring announcer, referee, opponent, etc.) and is proving to be a force to be reckoned with. In the other feud, you have the ring veteran in Nikki Bella trying to prove that she can still hang with the young crowd, most notably Carmella, while Carmella is ready to send Nikki out to pasture like Old Yeller. We even see Natalya and Naomi every week in some form, and we were seeing Eva Marie every week before she was suspended.

Over on Raw, we have Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks, which has been a great feud and provided some great matches, but that's all we have. Bayley is facing local competitors every week and then getting beaten down by Dana Brooke, so I guess that it Raw's secondary feud, but it's not as compelling as Nikki/Carmella on SD (shocking, since Bayley and Dana are better workers than Nikki and Carmella), and then the rest of the Raw's Women's Division is very rarely seen.

Agreed on all accounts.

Hopefully we get a good go-home Raw for Roadblock: End of the Line tonight.

Raw has been better lately, but it sure does feel like a chore to get through all three hours.  I still enjoy Smackdown much more.

If I had to rank the 5 WWE shows in order of enjoyment, it'd be this for me:

1. Smackdown
2. NXT
3. 205 Live
4. Raw
5. Main Event

Roadblock: End of the Line was... well, it was something, I guess.

Match of the night was New Day vs. Cesaro and Sheamus.  After that, I couldn't get invested in anything else on the card, including the Iron Woman Match between Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair.

Not a good way to end the 2016 PPV calendar for WWE.  Let's hope they can rebound from this and build up the Raw matches for the Royal Rumble better.

The best thing to come out of this PPV was the fact that WWE now has 6 weeks to build for the Royal Rumble.  (RAW in Little Rock will be the go home show.)

A PPV every two weeks seems quite tiresome for me.  Like a couple of things here and there grab my attention, like AJ Styles for example, but outside of that I do my best to try an find the positives from so many gosh darn PPV's.

Now I might sound like a scrooge saying that, as there really are a lot of undervalued matches that come from the shows, it just makes it hard to invest in fueds that I feel like WWE is trying to get our attention with.

Heel ADRIAN Neville might have been the second best thing to come out of the PPV because he will help restore life into the Cruiserweight division.

Perhaps my negative outlook is derived from that 10 minute match with Strowman an Zayn.   Meh, whatever.  I'll get over and begin looking forward to the Royal Rumble.

Something tells me that we are going to get AJ Styles vs Undertaker soon.

Excellent weekend of wrestling from the WWE.  NXT TakeOver: San Antonio, despite getting a late build up, was a solid show and there wasn't a bad match on the card.  Everyone brought their A-game.  The Royal Rumble event also delivered.  All of the matches were good (John Cena vs. AJ Styles was flat-out fantastic and the best match of the weekend).  I was hoping for a few more surprise entrants into the Royal Rumble Match, but it is what it is.  They, excuse the pun here, perfectly executed NXT's "Perfect Ten" Tye Dillinger as the number ten entrant, so that was pretty cool.

It has been a long time coming. Tremendous booking, having him look super credible by pinning both Cena then AJ Styles.

Smackdown Live! has on fire with the Main Event scene.  Midcard is great as well with Corbin, Ambrose, Ziggler and The Miz.

Hopefully Miz will get a chance to jump back into the main event scene before the year is over. I feel he is long overdue for another run with the world title. His Intercontinental title run in 2016 was the best work of his career next to his world title run in 2010-2011.

Money in the Bank was definitely hit and miss on many levels. Lana definitely looked lost and confused on occasions. While people are giving wwe grief about the women's money in the Bank match ending, I think it did just the job to generate extreme heat for her. Exactly what they were shooting for. And how in the heck did the Ascension sneak into the program. Lol. The tag team match ended as I expected. I was thinking more of a DQ. That program is gonna last up until summer slam. Jinder Mahal won as expected. Is it me, but I rather enjoy the Singh brothers getting tossed around. They'll definitely take a beating for ole Jindy. Which brings me to the men's ladder match. Which was one of the best in a very long time. Definitely wasn't expecting Corbin to win, but was very happy he did. It kinda makes you wonder why they put babyfaces in these matches. They're not going to generate much excitement with a cash in as a heel would. Maybe AJ Styles is probably one of the few faces that would do a sneak style cash in. Show grade: A-/ the mens ladder match, and the tag title match, made up for most of the grade. Everything else was probably a C

I was at the Money in the Bank event in St. Louis. The crowd was loud all night. Hopefully it came across like that on TV. I enjoyed pretty much the entire show. Some of the booking decisions were a bit weird, but you can't find a wrestling show today where everything is booked perfectly. In terms of enjoyment (this show was much better than Raw's Extreme Rules two weeks ago) here's how is rate the matches:

1) Men's Money in the Bank Ladder Match
2) The Usos vs. The New Day
3) Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match
4) Jinder Mahal vs. Randy Orton
5) Breezango vs. The Ascension
6) The Hype Bros vs. The Colóns
7) Naomi vs. Lana

On TV, it came off good. I was just ticked about the misuse of Naomi. Putting her against Lana. I would much rather for her not to compete. And interrupt Carmella during her backstage interview or vice versa. Lana definitely has much work to do. But her drive to do it is going to make her a good competitor in the future. But word from the dirt sheets are that they want to push her eventually. And the match at MITB was just to see how far along she is in her progress. Which I think they would have been better suited to do that on smackdown live instead of PPV. Also the sheets also said that it's because of her looks that they think that it will attract more men to pay attention to the women's division. Which is stupid as heck. Sounds like a Vince move ranther than a HHH or Road Dogg (lead writer of smackdown live) move. Me personally, I'm a butt man, and I love watching Naomi do her thing. But typical Vince though. Also, Baron Corbin isn't expected to cash in any time soon. In fact, there's talks that they may wait until either around Royal rumble or wrestle mania time to do it. They want to continue to develop him into a major championship type of performer. Fans love him, but management thinks he needs more polishing. Sorta like with Mahal. Except he has the Singh brothers flanking him to make him look like he's a supreme champ.

WWE just gave the women a 35-minute main event on Raw. Color me impressed! That might be the longest match on Raw, men or women, all year so far. It wasn't a bad match, either. Nia Jax held her own the entire time.

Post by: jbtiger73 on June 26, 2017, 11:04:38 pm
That very much shocked me as well. I was definitely glad it happened. That may have been triple h proving to Vince that they can have a legit main event match. Because you know there were reports of HHH being upset with Vince over the length of the women's matches and the mis-use of the NXT talent after they make the main roster. Was great to see that, especially in a large market city like LA. Also, kinda figured that after Heyman kept pushing the fact that Joe attacked Brock from behind, I knew that, that would happen. Normally they walk to the ring together. So it was pretty much a dead giveaway. But was happy that it happened. Shows people how much the submission hold, once put on, can even put a beast like Lesnar down. Even though I would have loved for him to eventually pass out to the hold, to show how dangerous it could be. But all in all, pretty good show. Except for the Ball family crap. I know Dean was ticked when Lavar interrupted him. Just a trash segment.

Also will get to see 205 live as well. Do they do that before or after smackdown? I'm assuming they do it before. Because on the network, it comes on immediately. And with the rope and canvas changes, I'm pretty sure they do it before. Has anyone noticed that they have cut Neville's fireworks in his intro. Probably almost gave someone a heart attack. I wish they'd give Little Rock another pay-per-view event.  I was at No Mercy 2002, and if I remember correctly it was far from a sell out. That may have something to do with us not getting another one, but with two PPVs a month we may get lucky down the road somewhere. We had Raw earlier in the year and we get Smackdown in August.

I would love if they'd bring the NXT crew here for a house show. They had a string of shows not too long ago that started in Kansas City, went to St. Louis, then skipped us and went to Southaven, Mississippi. So close, but yet so far.

I've been watching both, WWE and WCW ppv's in order as well. And doing comparisons. I'll let you know what I come up with later. But I do remember the no mercy event in 02. It definitely was way far from a sellout. But we'll get one back here soon. Because they do look at attendance from raw and SmackDown live as a determining factor. As far as the NXT thing goes, they're looking for smaller venues than Verizon arena. Maybe somewhere like the small arena in Hot Springs or the PB convention center. That's the type of venue that they're shooting for for them.

I wonder if Barton Coliseum would be small enough for them to consider NXT? Or maybe the Convocation Center in Jonesboro. There's a Raw house show in Jonesboro on August 26th.

As for my chronological order, I'm watching everything WWF/E that involves live (at the time) matches. So, basically right now, late 80's was the big pay-per-views and the Saturday Night's Main Event specials. I'm currently on SummerSlam 1988 now.

It definitely could be as far as venue's go. Did anyone hear the anti wwe rant that Alberto El Patron/DelRio, said last night after slammiversary went off the air? Well, after his victory over Bobby Lashley for the title, he was quoted as saying that he respects Lashley and the proceeds to shake his hand. Then says that wwe is full of a bunch of losers. Also that guy's like him and Lashley are a couple of fighters and some bad butt m'fers. Not a sports entertainer. Then the crowd of course was chanting a bunch of anti wwe stuff as well. All while Jeff Jarrett and others were in the ring. Honestly, I love more wrestling and less talking. But if you have to constantly talk bad about wwe, that means that they're still in your head. Just move on to another company or other ventures in your life, and be happy. Also noted, was that Paige was in attendance. She was backstage, and was spotted in the audience wearing a lucha type mask sitting on the front row during the main event. Really Paige. All the while, still under contract with WWE. Although she was there as a guest of El Patron, I'm sure wwe officials weren't too happy about that appearance. It not a legal issue for a talent of one company to attend an event of a separate company, unless they were paid to come. Then it becomes a legal matter. But it does look like a black eye on her relationship with the company. Wouldn't be surprised if she was released very soon. Especially after being associated with Alberto after his post show rant.

Just about to finish up WrestleMania V in my chronological viewing. The event where the Mega Powers exploded! Pretty lackluster show overall. It was awarded with "Worst Major Wrestling Show" by Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards in 1989.

I've actually been following the evolution of the undertaker. Via pay per views. From his debut at survivor series, up until now. The errie character that wouldn't talk, to the less errie but still dangerous character that would talk. To the ministry of darkness taker, to the American bad butt. He's definitely evolved his character better than anyone that I've ever seen in the history of wrestling, period.

Can't wait to see Roode vs. Drew McIntire at Takeover during summer slam weekend. BTW, did you catch the rap battle between the new day and the usos. It was actually interesting. Even if you weren't a hip hop fan. It definitely got kinda personal.

Yeah. I heard they did that to set up a rematch between the two at battleground. Also to set up a Summer Slam match with Shinske Nakamura. This was the best possible way to make that match happen.

When younger I loved watching Mid-South, Memphis and Dallas wrestling. I could still name many of the wrestlers of that era.  The AWA, when I could catch it as well.

In the Monday Night Wars I watched whichever one I thought had the better matchups that night. However during the nWo run it was WCW most of the time.

I went to a Monday Nitro in Memphis during its heyday.  That was when TNT re-ran it after the live show was over and I got to see myself holding up a sign.

When they merged I continued to watch Raw until it got way too over the top for my liking, then I stopped watching wrestling, period.

Last Monday I decided, what the heck, I'll catch the last hour or so of Raw.  Finn Balor/Cesaro was for me kind of a throwback to that time.  Very entertaining match. Didn't care for some of the antics involving Strowman later, but the show overall has improved.

Don't like what the Raw creative team are doing to Bayley though. It's as if they've said you've had a championship and now you're done.  IMO she still has a lot to offer.

I'm just hoping that they don't do that with Auska whenever she comes. Bobby Roode definitely should be a WWE champ or universal champ very soon. Basically giving him the same career respect as they gave AJ Styles.

Great Balls of Fire was a very good show. The best Raw-exclusive pay-per-view since the Draft last year.

In order of enjoyment for me:
Sasha/Alexa
Braun/Roman
Wyatt/Rollins
Dublin-07/Hardys
Neville/Tozawa
Lesnar/Joe
Cass/Enzo
Slater/Hawkins

Seen some of the names in the Mae Young classic, women's tournament. Definitely hope some of them make the main roster eventually. Honestly, they have enough to actually create their own show. But I doubt WWE would consider that. Kinda like how they did with 205 live after their tournament was over with.

If you guys want some entertaining wrestling videos, go to YouTube and look up, "WWE Brawl for All". It's literally just wrestlers in the ring Boxing each other. There is a great one between Bart Gunn and Bradshaw
Title: Re: Any Wrestling Fans on FF?

There was genuine heat between him and Bradshaw. Also other guys in the locker room as well, for Bradshaw being a bully. So when he got knocked the you know what out, people were celebrating. Lol. But these were legitimate boxing matches. No angles or story lines. Speaking of Angle, about his story line on Raw, there are reports that Dixie Carter my be in WWE, and that she is the mystery woman. Raw is in Nashville this week. That's where she makes her home, and where the impact wrestling headquarters are. So just saying. But I've heard a lot of different and weird things about that storyline.

There are some interesting rumors making the rounds today...

1) Brock Lesnar will be returning to UFC for another fight. He recently re-entered the USADA drug testing pool and will likely get an waiver on his failed drug test from July 2016.

2) WWE is considering bringing back Saturday Night's Main Event sometime after SummerSlam.

3) The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) are rumored to be the tag team that are constantly trashing Breezango's office and stealing their stuff.
Title: Re: Any Wrestling Fans on FF?

That would be some very great and interesting stuff. I knew the Brock and UFC thing would happen again eventually. They definitely need some heavyweight star power there. And with Angle back in WWE (although on a different show), and with American Alpha splitting up, they would be the perfect tag team to come in and make some noise. The Hardy's and The World's Greatest Tag Team are just the two teams to help both mediocre tag team divisions. Just hate how WWE loves to split promising tag teams up.

Battleground tonight. Should be a good show for the Smackdown brand. Here are my predictions:

-Tye Dillinger over Aiden English.

-Sami Zayn over Mike Kanellis.

-Tamina over Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Natalya, and Lana in the Fatal Five-Way Elimination Match to become the number one contender for Naomi's Smackdown Women's Championship.

-AJ Styles over Kevin Owens to retain the United States Championship.

-Shinsuke Nakamura over Baron Corbin via disqualification.

-The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods wrestling and Big E on the outside) over The Usos to win the Smackdown Tag Team Championship.

-John Cena over Rusev in the Flag Match.

-Jinder Mahal over Randy Orton in the Punjabi Prison Match to retain the WWE Championship.

Other: I'm going way out on a limb and predicting that The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) will return tonight and be revealed as the ones who have been trashing Breezango's office.

What would be cool, if Charlotte wins the match, while Naomi is at ringside. Then they do the faceoff in the ring after the match. Then Tamina and Lana attacks both of them. Then Carmella comes out and cashes in. Sets up a triple threat at summer slam, where a returning Ellsworth, helps Carmella retain in her hometown. I should definitely be a match booker in WWE. Lol😉

While Battleground certainly wasn't the best show, it definitely wasn't as bad as the Internet Wrestling Community is making it out to be.

In terms of enjoyment for me:

The New Day vs. The Usos
Kevin Owens vs. AJ Styles
Natalya vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch vs. Lana vs. Tamina
Jinder Mahal vs. Randy Orton
Aiden English vs. Tye Dillinger
Sami Zayn vs. Mike Kanellis
Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Baron Corbin
John Cena vs. Rusev

Smackdown Live rebounded quite nicely after that Battleground PPV on Sunday.

Chris Jericho returning was quite a nice surprise! Hopefully he'll get a short feud for SummerSlam. I'm not sure when Fozzy goes on tour again.

All four matches tonight were fun to watch. The only negative was that there wasn't a Fashion Files segment, but I guess it'd be hard to do one since Fandango was 'kidnapped' at Battleground.

Just hope they don't have a Summer Slam full of triple threat or fatal 4 way matches. There is also a major rumor going around, that Cena is to be added to the fatal 4 way, making it a 5 way. Don't know how true. But been hearing that. Especially with the Roman and Cena Twitter war going on. Would be perfect opponent for  Reigns to turn heel on. Making the argument that Cena is all about taking opportunities or jumping into the title scene because of his stature with the company.

Oh God. It's "Super Cena" vs Nakamura next week for a shot at Mahal. Let the burial begin. He's gonna be a 17 time champ eventually. Mainly due to his loyalty to WWE. Also because he has the blessings from Ric Flair to do so. In popularity, I still don't know if he's passed Hogan yet. Mainly due to Hogan being able to transition from the, say your prayers and take your vitamins type of guy, to the screw you, Jimi Hindrix theme song, sticking it to the fans type of guy. And as great as Cena is, if he was in the spot where Hogan was, when they changed the face of wrestling, I just don't think it would have gotten over that much, if at all. Hogan as even a baby face, was never considered a "clean cut" guy. That's the reason why I still say Hogan was more over. Because he attracted two different types of audiences. but the ironic thing is, is that Stone Cold still remains the biggest draw, as far as Merchandise and ticket sales goes, in wrestling history.

Cena was never "over" with me.  I am one of those who even in his prime almost couldn't care less.

Yes I will give it up that he was/is a great athlete.  But he was also one of the reasons I gave up watching wrestling for four years until a few weeks ago.

He will probably win the match because it's likely scripted for him to do so.  And many hardcore Cena fans will buy into that.

But many think WWE needs a new "face of the promotion" as it were.  Here's what's interesting:  Some of those want it to be Bayley, at least on the Raw side of it.

Makes me wonder if the Raw creative team are trying to use the Kurt Angle/Jason Jordan storyline to make Jordan exactly that.  If that's the case, so far it's not doing well.

As an aside, it saddened me to see that Big Show has seemingly been reduced to a "jobber for the stars".

I honestly think Shinsuke Nakamura will defeat John Cena next Tuesday.  Cena will get the win back somewhere down the road, but I think Nakamura gets the win first, much like most of Cena's recent feuds (not counting Rusev).
Title: Re: Any Wrestling Fans on FF?

Or he'll get some type of fluky win due to outside interfere by Baron Corbin. WWE logic is weird. He has the MITB briefcase. Why would he care who wins. But they may book him to interfere, to avenge his loss last week. Which may turn a lot of fans away. Worst case scenario is that they have a triple threat match at summer slam. If it was any other competitor, I wouldn't be as upset. But someone like Nakamura, definitely doesn't deserve the Cena burial.

Crazy fact; WWE took control of USWA wrestling out of Memphis, back in the early 90's. That's why you started seeing Jerry Lawler on WWE programming. They would sorta use that as the "developmental" brand.they tested storylines there before they brought them to the mainstream. Acts like ,Too Cool (without Rikishi), the Nation of Domination, men on a mission, papa shango, and others. With the nation of Domination storyline in uswa, they would always talk about Farooq. And how he's the leader, and that he's coming soon. But the problem, was that they couldn't decide who was going to be Farooq. Until they settled on Ron Simmons. The weird part, was they debuted him as the Spartan character shortly after. So I don't know what the logic behind that was.

Oh. man.  This Raw was tough to sit through after the first 40 minutes or so.

Hardys match was very good, probably should have been the main event. Sheamus vs. Rollins had its moments too. Cruiserweights were very exciting.

I don't know, three big guys lumbering about in a triple threat just isn't my cup of tea.  But a good set up for Reigns.

At first thought I didn't get the premise behind Bayley vs Nia Jax, but after thinking about it I see.  Bayley first put Alexa in her place and then outsmarted Jax for the count out.  Looks like The Hugger is getting a pretty hard push.

I didn't bother with the last match bc for one thing I can't stand Enzo.

Bayley may be out of SS.  Looks like she legit hurt her shoulder when Nia Jax dropped her at one point in the match.  Going to evaluate tomorrow.

Nakamura did beat Cena, and might have hurt him as well.

If both are serious, WWE is going to have to scramble.  It doesn't affect the status of Nakamura, but Cena is one of the faces of the whole promotion and to lose him for any length of time would be bad.

Bayley's injury, if it's serious enough for her to miss SS (and she will certainly miss Raw next week), may lead to Alexa vs. Sasha, and maybe Jax in there as well.

Nia Jax is dangerous in the ring. I am not sure why Vince McMahon wanted to bring her up from NXT so soon. There are so many women that are better, safer workers than she is. She should not be anywhere near the title picture, or on TV for that matter, until she learns how to clean up her act in the ring.

I think Cena will be fine. After the match, Nakamura went up to him and said, "I'm sorry," to which Cena replied, "Don't be sorry," before he raised Nakamura's head. After Smackdown went off the air, and before 205 Live aired on the WWE Network, Baron Corbin came out and attacked both Nakamura and Cena. Cena fought back and sent Corbin through the announce table with an AA. If his neck was seriously injured, I don't think he would have been able to lift Corbin up for that move. He'll probably be sore, but his neck is so massive from weight training that I think he'll be fine.

I love Nia. They just book her all wrong. I definitely would turn her face. Have her in a program with Bliss. And turn Sasha heel and have her against bayley, kinda what we're all expecting anyway. I'm still ticked off at wwe for making an aging giant, in the big show, vs big Cass. Someone who has main event potential, but nowhere near it yet, as the main event for raw. Ending the show on a super dull note. You can even tell that the audience was kinda like, "oh, was that the main event". Just like how most of us were. I understand that you want to give guys a chance. But you're on the road to a major ppv event. You should want to put your best foot forward each week leading up to the event. Outside of the main event at summer Slam for raw, everyone else seemed to take a bit of a step back.

Many are asking that Nia Jax be sent back to NXT.  Clumsiness and lack of ring polish have been cited.  But you have to take into account, that's one huge girl.

That makes three that Nia has put on the shelf in the past year:  Sasha Banks, Charlotte Flair, now Bayley.  Those are three of the most popular ladies WWE has and I can understand why the fans feel that way.

But they probably won't "demote" her as it were, because Alexa Bliss's popularity has taken off (even past Bayley's) and Nia is feeding off that.

Many are indeed seeing a heel turn soon for Sasha against Bayley, but that may have to be put off depending on recovery time for The Huggable One.  I have thought about the reverse as well but I don't think it would be a good idea to turn Bayley heel at this time.  Not while Bayley is getting a lot of sympathy for her injury.

This may give Emma a chance to get back into the rotation, and it may also be the time for Asuka to be called up.

As for Show, I am afraid his days are numbered in WWE and that's sad for me.  I can remember when he was the biggest and baddest on the block.  Now other giants like Braun Strowman and Big Cass have passed him by.

I think Enzo is hurting Cass right now. He completely needs to move on from him if he wants to really be more successful. Enzo's popularity is overshadowing cass's come up. After summer slam, they definitely need to put him in a feud with a Roman reigns or someone of that sort.

I really don't see anything special about Shinsuke Nakamura. I kept up with him while he was at NXT and I don't see what everyone deal is with this guy and why they are hanging off this guys nuts for. I think he looks like a Chinese verison of Michael Jackson and looks retarded. I think Smackdown screwed up big time by allowing him to get over Cena to go on at SummerSlam. I'm going to call it right now that Nakamura will win the title at Summer Slam and will be world champion for a total of 3 minutes because Barron Corbin will come in and cash it in on him.

We all know Lesnar is going to lose the title at Summer Slam. WWE needs to come up with better ideas on writing this crap. It's getting worse and worse it seems like. The Miz needs a good title run and I think he would be a great heal with the title. His a good heal at the moment on Smackdown those other clowns aren't doing much. Ambrose got drafted to Raw was a joke, they should had either brought Seth Rollins over. Smackdown is getting weak at the moment, Raw has all the size in the world and is stack at the moment at that. If Raw and Smackdown went fought each other, Raw would get it hands down.

I think it plays out like this:

1) Lesnar loses at SummerSlam, leaves WWE with Heyman to go train for his fight against Jones
2) Stephanie McMahon returns to chastise Kurt Angle about making Raw lose one of their top guys by putting him in the Fatal 4-Way
3) Lesnar resurfaces on Smackdown Live in January, becoming a Smackdown Live Superstar, and enters the Royal Rumble Match
4) Lesnar competes at WrestleMania 34 in one of Smackdown Live's top matches and finishes out his contract
5) Lesnar leaves WWE again (contract now expired) to go fight Jones.

I like Bayley, but I understand your criticism.  To some, Bayley can come off as too over-the-top goody-goody. And I do agree that her promos can use some work.  But she works hard in the ring.

When I got back to watching Raw, it was the hard work and sincerity that got me to notice Bayley. And then when I watched her NXT championship match with Sasha on YouTube, I was hooked.

A lot of those who are turned off by Bayley for the reasons listed above seem to be migrating to the corner of Alexa Bliss.  She's darn good as well (in fact, my second favorite in the women's division) and is better on promos.

As I came back to watching, among the newcomers that have come in since I quit watching, I liked Finn Balor's style. I prefer Ambrose to Rollins. And among what seems to be the "Big 4" (that is, those in the Fatal 4-Way), my preference is Samoa Joe.

Though I don't care for him, the Miz does put on a good show with his interviews.  I can't at all stand Big Cass and especially Enzo.  And I don't care for Bray Wyatt or Elias either.

I had always liked Sheamus and the Hardys among those who were around when I quit watching.  I can't deal with Goldust's theatrics.  And I truly feel sorry for Big Show, even though he was never one of my favorites.  He's obviously on the decline and he may not be around WWE very much longer.

I definitely know that Bayley is very good in the ring. Honestly, I'd rather see her than Bliss any day. I just plain don't like her. She kinda talks in a low tone and talk very fast, when she's insulting other competitors. Kinda like Jinder Mahal when he talks. He talks so low, I pretty much have to turn the volume up just to really hear what he says.

NXT Women's Championship Match: Asuka vs. Ember Moon

NXT Tag Team Championship Match: The Authors of Pain vs. SAnitY

There are rumors of a second Superstar Shakeup to take place after SummerSlam.

But with an added twist: some Raw/SmackDown talent would be sent down to NXT, and a similar number of NXT stars would get the call-up.

If this happens, what moves would you like to see?

Personally, I'd want either Elias or Bray Wyatt sent to SmackDown. Those two are too similar to be on the same brand IMO. As a consequence, Raw might get Randy Orton back. And I would love to see Becky Lynch on Raw, perhaps sending an underutilized Emma to SmackDown.

I've heard a lot about the stable called Sanity on NXT.  They could cause havoc in either the red or blue camp.  Asuka is obviously ready as well.  Dana Brooke and The Ascension, among others, are candidates to get the boot and wind up on NXT. And I wish Enzo Amore would join them.

Bayley is officially out of SummerSlam with a separated shoulder.  They are having two triple threat matches on Raw tonight, the winners of which will meet next week to decide who will face Alexa Bliss.

From what I'm seeing these will be:

Dana Brooke vs. Nia Jax vs. Mickie James
and
Alicia Fox vs. Emma vs. Sasha Banks

Scott Dawson (of Revival) may also be out with a biceps injury.

Hoping for quick recoveries for Bayley and Scott.

I mean, I didn't want Bayley in the match anyway. But definitely didn't want her getting hurt in the process as well. And the revival can't seem to catch a freaking break. Killing all of their momentum.

Frankly, I don't see anyone except Nia and Sasha winning those matches.  The only other one I give any chance to is Emma.

I'm with you, even if I didn't like a particular wrestler I certainly wouldn't want him/her to miss a major event due to being injured.

Yep, Sasha and Nia.

Turned it off about 9:30 because there was no other match that interested me.

Rollins, Ambrose, Sheamus, Cesaro all put on a good show.  Well done.  Still like Balor too.  Jason Jordan is getting nowhere.  And the sooner they get Enzo off the show, the better.

What happened with Bayley's announcement was uncalled for.  I'm sorry, a crowd may not like someone, but they need to show a little respect if they are hurt.

True.  They didn't even respond to Jason Jordan.  Of course, nobody is responding to him in the US either.  That storyline appears to be DOA unless something happens very soon.

In one of the long-ago PPVs that was in Toronto, Edge was booed as a face.  And Edge is from Toronto.

And an update:  Scott Dawson is indeed on the sidelines.  So no Revival for a while either.

I have been watching some of Paige's past matches.  She has now been cleared to wrestle and is under a Raw contract.

I just wonder, might they wait until after SummerSlam and then throw Paige into the mix with Bliss, Banks, Jax and eventually a returning Bayley?  Maybe something like what happened when Paige came over from NXT and immediately ended AJ Lee's reign as Divas Champion.

Or, with the controversy surrounding her fiancé Alberto Del Rio/Alberto El Patron, will WWE move to wash their hands of her?

Also, today is the 20th anniversary of the formation of D-Generation X.  One of my favorite stables of all time, whether they were heel or face at any given time.

As a African American, I should be offended by the famous Nation of Domination spoof by DX. When X pac came out as Mizark with the black face paint on. But that was one of the best promos I've ever seen. I still go back to the network and watch it all the time. And plus, on a recent episode of table for 3, Mark Henry said that X pac said that he really didn't want to do it. But they said they were absolutely cool with it. And the nation actually caught heat about it within the black community in real life. Which, I think most people are racially insensitive anyway. You can tell when someone is a racist jerk or not

I had family stuff going on so missed most of Raw.  But maybe, just maybe, Jason Jordan has the vehicle to get some attention.  I caught that six man tag and it was a very good match.

I understand Akira Tozawa won the Cruiserweight championship.  Didn't see it, but caught the promo about his celebration tomorrow night on 205 during the part I was able to watch.

And Sasha beat Nia for the right to take on Alexa Bliss at SS.  With Alexa watching from what looked like a lifeguard stand.  Is Little Miss Bliss auditioning for Baywatch or something?  ??? ::)

The cruiserweight match was very good. They finally gave them time to create. Neville missed the red arrow, and Tozowa capitalized on it. WWE is conflicted on which one to turn heel. Either Sasha or Bayley. I definitely think after what has happened with her injury and more people booing her each week, I think now that it could be her. And it definitely would be a great character build up for her. I personally think that the injury is a work. And they've noticed the fans reaction to her as of late. And knowing that she definitely needs a change.

Heel Bayley could be pulled off but Creative would have to be very careful how they do it.  Bayley is a merchandise machine and I don't know if WWE would want to tamper with that a lot.  But then, WWE (read: Vince McMahon) has fumbled the ball with a lot of the wrestlers who have come up from NXT so you never know.

If WWE were to keep Bayley as a face when she comes back, they might consider making her act more mature.  Stay enthusiastic, but make it a little less over the top.  And her promos, as we both agree, need work.

A heel Sasha might be more believable.  I've watched a match with Sasha as heel (the classic vs. Bayley at NXT Takeover Brooklyn) and she sold it very well (and turned face after that match). And I think Sasha would keep selling the merchandise whether heel or face, similar to what Alexa Bliss is doing now.

Sasha and Bayley are the hardest workers in the Raw Women's Division, IMO.  Alexa is getting there, but I still think Mickie James and Emma are harder workers.

What might further complicate things is that both Paige and Summer Rae are about ready to come back from injury themselves and both are signed to Raw.  And from NXT there looms the imposing figure of Asuka who is itching to be on the main roster, though whether on Raw or SmackDown remains to be seen.

I don't think they have quite figured out what to do with Nia Jax yet.

I haven't got the Network yet, but I kept up with it on a live blog and on Twitter.

I get the impression that the Asuka-Ember Moon match should have been the main event, just as Bayley-Sasha Banks should have been in 2015.  From what I read, action-packed throughout.  And there was a Ring of Honor invasion at the very end after McIntyre took the title from Roode.

Maybe Vince needs a few lessons from Triple H on how to book wrestlers and matches.  He sure has stunk it up with a lot of the NXT talent that has come up to the main roster, specifically Finn Balor and Bayley.

Hopefully Finn can show what he's made of against Bray Wyatt tonight.  I hear he's going to come as the Demon.

And when you have a #1 contender (Bayley) set to go in a major PPV, it's stupid to book her against someone as dangerous as Nia Jax before that.  Heck, Emma and Dana Brooke were wanting respect, why not have Bayley wrestle one of them instead.

But tonight's show is going to have to go some to beat last night.

Here was my order of enjoyment for NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III:

Asuka/Ember Moon
Andrade "Cien" Almas/Johnny Gargano
Aleister Black/Hideo Itami
SAnitY/Authors of Pain
Drew McIntyre/Bobby Roode

Not a bad match in the bunch.

SummerSlam on the other hand...

Great-tier:
Usos/New Day
Shield/Dublin-07
Lesnar/Strowman/Reigns/Joe

Good-tier:
Styles/Owens
Banks/Bliss
Balor/Wyatt
Neville/Tozawa
Natalya/Naomi
Mahal/Nakamura

Okay-tier
Miztourage/Hardyz & Jordan
Cena/Corbin

Bad-tier:
Cass/Show
Orton/Rusev

Again the ladies stole the show. That was a good one. Alexa wins it back. And then Nia Jax turns on Alexa.  Other than that and the Rollins/Ambrose/Cesaro/Sheamus stuff which I've gotten to like, it was a lot of wasted time.

I was actually rooting for Gallows and Anderson, and I thought I'd never do that. I've never really cared for Cena and I do not like Reigns at all.

And the Emma/Mickie thing was absolutely pathetic. Maybe even worse than the time Alexa did the This Is Your Life segment on Bayley. And that was pretty bad.

This women's division on Raw is getting crazy.  Emma has all of a sudden stuck herself right in the middle of it and stole a pin on Sasha from Nia Jax.  Now she and Nia are both getting title shots in a fatal 4-way with Alexa and Sasha at No Mercy.

And maybe Show is not as washed up as I thought.  He gave Strowman all he wanted in the cage match.  Overall it was a pretty good Raw on Monday.

Smackdown definitely went over the edge a lot tonight. From the picachu seisure comment from Jinder Mahal to Nakamura, to the Dolph parodies. Pair that with the awesome in ring action, and Mr McMahon getting beat down by Kevin Owens, smackdown once again had a great show that made raw look like impact wrestling. And raw was pretty good the other night. So that's definitely saying something. Now if smackdown can bring it like Raw can on PPV events. That's been smackdown's achellies heel. Producing great ppv's. That's mainly due to Vince allowing Road Dogg to have more say on smackdown. But Vince having full control at the ppv's.

What a night of wrestling WWE gave us last night. Smackdown Live, the finals of the Mae Young Classic, and 205 Live were all great shows.  If you don't follow 205 Live, you should. The Cruiserweights are actually allowed to wrestle 10+ minute matches on it (plus, Breezango made an appearance last night).

I definitely see him in a feud with Bobby Roode very soon. They're definitely setting it up for that. With Roode's entrance and everything. Fits in perfect with this feud.

Once she gets well, Asuka is headed to Raw.

So many ways they could go with this.  But all things lead to a championship push IMO, mainly because of her unbeaten record in NXT.

For right now, whoever is champion when she comes in would be a first target.  It would be most interesting if this turned out to be Nia Jax.  She and Alexa actually had a discussion about "someone else" coming in during Raw last Monday.

Another dynamic that will come into play would be a returning Bayley. She and Asuka had two incredible matches in NXT.  Looks like the Huggable One is about 3 weeks to a month away from being back in the ring.

The Raw Women's Division may be about to come out of the chaos that they have been in, I would say since Alexa and Charlotte swapped shows back in April.

I honestly didn't even think about that.  You have a very good point and it might get Dolph back in the spotlight where he feels he belongs.

Wow, what Kevin Owens did with Vince.  Talk about making yourself the biggest heel on SmackDown.

On my last statement, the RWD may even be overloaded with talent now.  Summer Rae is back in action (but only in dark matches right now), everybody is expecting Paige to return at any time, and with Asuka coming on board now I could see moves to SmackDown or NXT coming.

Dana Brooke would be near the top of my list to return to NXT for additional training.  And as an aside, it's pretty bad that they have Mickie James pretty much working as a jobber right now.  She deserves better.

He always had a phrase that I use today. When he would call the fans humanoids. I actually really thought that he had an actual hatred for Hulk Hogan. That what made their feuds in the 80's so great.

Looks like Braun Strowman can focus completely on Brock Lesnar now because Samoa Joe, Big Cass and Big Show are all now out injured and Roman Reigns has shifted his sights to John Cena.

It's like a M*A*S*H unit on Raw right now. Those three plus Scott Dawson and Bayley have all been injured within the last two months.

And now it's Alexa vs. Nia vs. Sasha vs. Emma...

vs. Bayley!

After Nia polished off Alexa tonight and started after Sasha, Bayley hit the ring. Nia got knocked out of the ring by the other three, then Sasha and Bayley double-teamed Alexa.

Even though I like Bayley I have some reservations about how it all went down.

And, is Reigns finally starting to get a little over with the fans?  Actually saw a few hand slaps with the fans after his promo.

I'm feeling the same way about Bayley. I understand why they did it. Maybe for fan appeal. Especially the little girls. I could actually see her winning and setting up the Sasha Banks heel turn like originally planned. Or maybe Nia wins due to Sasha being in control of the match. And Bayley wants revenge on Nia for putting her out. Which sets Sasha off. But I'm definitely surprised they didn't include any of the WCW stuff. But he really didn't have any funny backstage moments there. He had a few moments at the announce table there. Especially with him, Tony and Dusty. Great video package though. Looks like they had so much fun filming those, with Gorilla and Mean Gene.

Ye Gods.  Wish I had gotten the WWEN for this (I almost did).  Been keeping up through multiple online sources.

Observations:  They need to turn Jason Jordan heel  He is getting nothing as a face.  Miz got all the pop, and the win too.

Finn ate a table before the match started and then he and Bray put on a show with Finn coming out on top.  Note:  This feud needs to end.

Cesaro legit lost two teeth in that tag match.  And still kept on.  I already liked him but now even more respect.  Ambrose and Rollins retain but I would not have been disappointed if it had gone the other way.

The ladies had an incredible match.  As expected they tried to take Nia out, hitting a quad powerbomb. Interesting that Bayley and Sasha stopped each other's finishers (the heel turn may come on Raw).  Surprised a bit that Bliss won (thought it would be Jax or Bayley), and hated that Bayley ate the pin.

Reigns/Cena was decent but in the end, one more reason for me to HATE Reigns.  Don't like Cena much either, but I cannot stand Roman.  And it looks like Cena will be leaving for a while, too.

Oh my.  Enzo Amore is the Cruiserweight Champion.  What is the world coming to. That is all I have to say.

I thought going in that Braun, for all his might, was maybe a little clumsy and that Lesnar would at some point take advantage and hit an F5 for the win.  Called that!

No Mercy was a bit of a let down. For WWE hyping up "two WrestleMania-caliber matches," the show sure took a nose dive after the tag title match.

Here's how I would rank the matches last night in terms of enjoyment for me from greatest to least:

1. Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins vs. Cesaro and Sheamus
2. Finn Balor vs. Bray Wyatt
3. Alexa Bliss vs. Bayley vs. Emma vs. Nia Jax vs. Sasha Banks
4. Elias vs. Apollo Crews
5. John Cena vs. Roman Reigns
6. Jason Jordan vs. The Miz
7. Braun Strowman vs. Brock Lesnar
8. Enzo Amore vs. Neville

I'd reverse 2/3.  And mostly because of that incredible quad powerbomb on Nia Jax.  I've never seen anything like it before.  Nothing touches that tag match.

I'd also reverse 5/6, but only just.

And wow, did Mickie James teach Alexa not to run her big mouth too much tonight!  Glad they're putting Mickie back in a feud.  She deserves it.

I never rooted for the Miz in my life.  I did tonight.

Loving more aggression by Bayley.  And the best promo I've seen her have, calling out Nia!  No heel turn though!

Apparently, Enzo and Corey Graves are in a legit beef now. Over comments that Corey made after his so made a play in a little league game. He mentioned that after the play, he celebrated with the Enzo dance. And Graves jokingly said that " he's failed as a parent". Enzo responded by saying that"you didn't fail as a parent, you failed as a wrestler. Now go put your suit on and sit down at the desk" how you doin.

The final build to HIAC happened on a pretty good episode of Smackdown Live last night.  It's always nice to see Tye Dillinger get a win, especially at the expense of Baron Corbin, who oppositely, it is always nice to see lose.

However, I wish Becky Lynch was in the women's title picture.  Maybe we'll get a slow build for Becky vs. Charlotte (who turns heel along the way) for WrestleMania 34.

They're now actually talking about Bayley turning heel. That would definitely be interesting. I believe she actually would make a great heel. If she fully embraced it. But I know wwe's merch sales for her would probably go on a major decline.
Title: Re: Any Wrestling Fans on FF?
Post by: 1-Adam-12 on October 04, 2017, 06:14:19 pm
I'd like Becky Lynch to have a title shot as well. Enjoy her style and love her entrance.  She was the first SmackDown women's champion and I hope she can get another turn.

Mickie James looks like she's finally getting a deserved push on Raw.  She'll have a shot at the title vs. Alexa at TLC.

And I have also seen the Bayley heel talk.  As I stated before Creative must handle it carefully if it's to happen.  The scene at the last Raw, where the young fan got both Bayley's jacket and Sasha's glasses, shows what they have to deal with. Plus the merchandise situation you mentioned.

It wouldn't be impossible from the merch standpoint though.  Kevin Owens is probably the biggest heel in the whole WWE and his stuff sells pretty well.

When Bayley first came to NXT she was a semi-heel, playing an obsessive fangirl who interfered by hugging.

It would definitely be interesting.  Many are saying she might take on a "dark side" character, similar to Paige.

Just read about the death of Lance Russell at the age of 91.

He was the voice of Memphis wrestling for a long time, and I can remember him on the Memphis TV stations (5 and 13) during the formative days of Jerry Lawler and "Superstar" Bill Dundee, among many others.

Definitely excited about war games. One of my favorite pay per views. I remember growing up in Brinkley, and watching channel 5 out of Memphis every Saturday morning. With Lance Russell and the weather man, Dave Brown, and eventually Corey Macklin. That was when Vince started buying out the territories like USWA, Smokey Mountain Wrestling, among others. Lance Russell was definitely one of my favorites.

Austin Idol was another of the wrestlers I remember from that time.  He was a Ric Flair-type character.

While that will delay my viewing of the Big Four in person (I've been to two WrestleManias, 25 and 32, and the 2001 Royal Rumble, but have never attended SummerSlam or Survivor Series), I feel like TakeOver: WarGames is a must-see.

Oh, man!  HIAC delivered, for the most part.  Amazing that the same show that gave us that wretched Battleground event back in July gave us, perhaps, the best single-brand PPV event of the year.

In terms of enjoyment for me:

The Usos vs. The New Day
Kevin Owens vs. Shane McMahon
Baron Corbin vs. AJ Styles vs. Tye Dillinger
Randy Orton vs. Rusev
Chad Gable and Shelton Benajmin vs. The Hype Bros
Charlotte Flair vs. Natalya (would be higher if not for the crap ending)
Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler
Jinder Mahal vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Not many people saw that Sami Zayn heel turn coming.  This, however, may be the boost he needed because he was languishing.

Yes, that was a stinky ending to the women's match. Nattie didn't have to do that, she was in control.  There has to be something coming culminating with Carmella cashing in Money in the Bank on someone.

And I am sick of Jinder Mahal.

That Fatal 5-way elimination went almost exactly as I thought.

You knew they weren't going to throw Bayley or Sasha to Asuka that early.  And Fox and Dana just haven't been factors lately.

Emma does have history with Asuka so that makes sense.

To me, this Shield reunion is just another gimmick to force the fans to like Roman Reigns.

I was wondering why I didn't see him among the lumberjacks in Enzo vs. Kalisto.

The fact that he was supposed to be IN the match would explain that.

Wonder if he was going to have his pride hurt by booking him to lose to Enzo?

Be that as it may, if true that makes two cruiserweights that have bolted, Austin Aries being the other.

The division is just not going over (though DANG I like Rich Swann's entrance music!) like WWE thought it would.

MAJOR changes to the TLC card for Sunday...

Kurt Angle has replaced Roman Reigns in the 5-on-3 Handicap TLC Match. Reigns has been diagnosed with viral meningitis, the same illness that has directly affect another match...

Bray Wyatt has also been removed from the show. Finn Balor's new opponent will be AJ Styles.

I've also heard that is what's been wrong with Bo Dallas (part of the Miztourage) and JoJo (one of the announcers) and why they had a different ring announcer on Raw last Monday.

That may actually make for a much better match for Balor.  While I like him I think the storyline with him and Bray was getting tired.  Balor-Styles should be a heck of a match.

And it seems Nia Jax has taken a leave of absence and may ask for a release.

A different kind of Superstar Shake-up.

I read something that has me concerned. At an NXT House Show in Sanford, Florida last night, the women participated in a Halloween Costume Battle Royal.

Now, hopefully this was a one-off thing with the holiday coming up. I really hope it's not a sign of a reversal back to having the women in costumes or skimpy outfits around all of the holidays.

Reading that Emma has been released.  Shame.  That was pretty abrupt too.

Didn't care for a lot of her antics but a very talented performer.

Summer Rae, too.

If indeed Jax has also left, the Raw Women's Division seems to be imploding.  All three were signed to Raw.

Over on the men's side Darren Young also was released.

Emma was criminally underused during her time in WWE, as was Summer Rae.

Darren Young was brought in with the original Nexus group, but was squashed (with the rest of the group) by John Cena. He never really recovered from that, outside of one run with the tag titles with Titus O'Neil when they were the Prime Time Players.

I honestly thought Emma was going to be on the Raw team for the traditional Survivor Series tag match vs SmackDown, along with Alicia, Bayley, Sasha and Mickie.  She had been getting pushed a bit lately, albeit in a losing-to-Asuka storyline.

Summer Rae had just restarted wrestling in dark matches.  I honestly never saw her in action as her prime time coincided with the time I wasn't watching wrestling.  Same with Darren Young.

With those two women now released, does this pave the way for the callup of what NXT fans call "The Iconic Duo" of Peyton Royce and Billie Kay? (Ironically, like Emma, they're both Australian.)

Why? I mean she was misused, but the WWE never did anything with her to make the audience really care about her.

She was more over when teaming with SANTINO.

My logic was based on a possible fan protest against Vinny Mac as much as anything related to Emma herself.  He has, to used a wrestling term, botched it with a lot of the younger talent.

Chris Jericho appeared at NJPW's Power Struggle event earlier today and challenged Kenny Omega to a match at Wrestle Kingdom 12 in January. Omega accepted, and the match is official and will be for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship.

This will mark Jericho's first match for any promotion other than WWE since 1999.

Watched the last 40 minutes of the 30 for 30 about Ric Flair. Makes me wish I'd caught the first part.  This was excellent.

Recently, I also watched a video about Alexa Bliss and her journey to the WWE.  She had a lot of issues in her personal life including an eating disorder as a teen that almost took her life.  She turned to bodybuilding as an escape.  Very good story that makes me have more respect for her.

And as for AJ Styles taking the belt off Jinder Mahal, "YES! YES! YES!"

John Cena has been announced as Smackdown Live's fifth man for the Survivor Series Elimination Match.

Raw: Angle, Joe, Balor, Strowman, Jordan
Smackdown: McMahon, Cena, Nakamura, Orton, Roode.

On the women's side:

Raw: Alicia Fox (c), Nia Jax, Asuka, Sasha Banks and the other TBA.

SmackDown: Becky Lynch (c), Charlotte Flair, Naomi, Carmella, Tamina.  This could change because Charlotte has an upcoming match with Natalya for the SD Live Women's Championship and if she wins that she would instead go into the champ vs. champ match with Alexa Bliss, and I would assume Natalya would then join the SD Live team.

How will that fifth member be determined?  Will there be a match on Raw next week with Bayley vs Mickie James (and perhaps make it a triangle match with Dana Brooke) with the winner getting the spot?  Or does Vinny Mac have some sort of swerve?

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn have been sent home from the European tour for reportedly "going into business for themselves" after the match between Kofi and Zayn on Smackdown last night.

Apparently, Owens and Zayn were supposed to get beat down by New Day, but they bailed from the ring before it could happen.

I am hoping this is just a part of the storyline.

When the WWE Superstars tour Europe, the crowds seem to really get into it more than they do in the U.S., at least for the ones they back.

Bayley has been serenaded (to the tune of "Hey Baby") at every venue they have gone to with Sasha Banks usually joining in as well, and so was Becky Lynch on SmackDown.  Enzo seems to be over across the Pond.  As is The Miz.

Those from Europe get a lot of pop over there.

One thing is in common.  Jason Jordan gets no reaction there, just like he gets no reaction here.

And that is exactly the way it will be.  Bayley vs. Mickie vs. Dana.

Watch out for some Alicia Fox shenanigans meant to keep Bayley and Mickie out.

I actually think Carmella will cash in on a Charlotte win on either smackdown after her win, or at survivor series after the champion vs. Champion match with Alexa Bliss.

It may not be Alicia Fox who deals out the shenanigans.

Paige is now heavily rumored to come back Monday and be placed in that 3-way match I mentioned.

And if that happens and she wins, I'll be mad and not just because it means Bayley won't be on the team.  Paige has been off for 17 months now, due to injury and failing the WWE wellness program, TWICE.

Make her start at the bottom, not jump right into a PPV.

A couple of "good nights" are in order:

Good night, Dana Brooke. Thanks for coming.

Good night, Jason Jordan. Thanks for coming.  Oh, by the way, you're not on the team anymore either.

Difference being, this may actually enhance Dana's standing (getting into a feud with Asuka), while I think that buried Jordan.  I mean "Thank you Bray!"  and the Na-Na-Na-Na song, followed by a pedigree by HHH?  That message got sent loud and clear.

Bayley got that 5th spot on the women's team, and no sign of Paige.

Well, what a weekend it was in Houston!  As per usual, the NXT crew upstaged the WWE crew.  Experiencing a WarGames Match in person was awesome, and Survivor Series became the third of the "Big Four" events that I've attended live (just missing SummerSlam now).

In terms of enjoyment for me for TakeOver: WarGames:
1) Aleister Black vs. The Velveteen Dream
2) WarGames
3) Andrade "Cien" Almas vs. Drew McIntyre
4) Ember Moon vs. Kairi Sane vs. Nikki Cross vs. Peyton Royce
5) Lars Sullivan vs. Kassius Ohno

And for Survivor Series:
1) The Usos vs. The Bar
2) Brock Lesnar vs. AJ Styles
3) The Shield vs. The New Day
4) Charlotte Flair vs. Alexa Bliss
5) Kevin Owens/Sami Zayn vs. Breezango
6) Men's Survivor Series Elimination Match
7) Baron Corbin vs. The Miz
8. Women's Survivor Series Elimination Match
9) Elias vs. Matt Hardy
10) Enzo Amore vs. Kalisto

Wow. Glad you were able to enjoy them live.  I kept up with it online through Twitter and B/R.

I've never seen an Usos match.  I will look at a few of them in the coming days. Sounds like it would be worth my while.

Heard the WarGames match was insane.  And from what most are saying, two new NXT stars were born in Black and Dream.

I would have preferred Peyton Royce win the women's championship but Ember Moon, from what I've seen, is amazing and probably deserved it.

Now I'm going to have to wrap my head around what (I read) happened on Raw. (Had basketball tonight.)

Reigns IC champ.  Paige back, with a lot of help.  And apparently a face turn by Alexa.

Paige and her cronies sure didn't help the fortunes of the ones in the Fatal 4-way tonight.  With the Raw women's division now very crowded, there may be a move to send Banks and Bayley to SD Live to reunite the 4 Horsewomen.

Or....maybe not.

SD copycatted the Paige thing by calling up three NXT women, one of whom I'd never heard of.
Title: Re: 2017 Wrestling Thread

Paige, Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, Ruby Riot, Liv Morgan, and Sarah Logan have returned/been added to the women's roster over the past two night.  There was a rumor of two things being added for the women in 2018: a Royal Rumble Match and Raw/Smackdown Women's Tag Team Championships.  With these returns/new additions, both of those seem more likely than ever.
Title: Re: 2017 Wrestling Thread

Out of all the NXT callups Liv Morgan was the one I had heard the most about. The Logan girl, I had not heard of before.

They must have something big in mind for Peyton Royce and Billie Kay if they did not call them up from NXT at this point.

So now these two women's groups have names.

The Raw group (Paige, Rose and Deville) are called Absolution.

The SmackDown group (Riott, Morgan and Logan) are Riott Squad.  (They added a second T to Ruby Riott's name.)

Wonder why Natalya abandoned Charlotte and Naomi during that tag match against Riott Squad.

If you don't have the WWE Network (why wouldn't you?) and are not a follower of NXT, tonight is your lucky night. NXT will be airing on the USA Network at 6 PM. Check it out. It's arguably the best of the three weekly shows that WWE puts on.

WWE has also announced a mixed tag team challenge with 6 teams each from Raw and SD Live, with the winners getting $100,000 for charity.

The pairings have not been announced yet, just the available wrestlers.  After looking at them, here's how I'd pair them.

Raw:  Alexa Bliss/Braun Strowman; Sasha Banks/The Miz; Bayley/Finn Balor; Alicia Fox/??? ; Nia Jax/Enzo Amore; Asuka/Goldust.

SD Live: Bobby Roode/Charlotte Flair; Sami Zayn/Becky Lynch; Jimmy Uso/Naomi; New Day member/Carmella; Shinsuke/Natalya; Rusev/Lana.

Of course there are a lot of other pairings that would be intriguing, such as Zayn/Natalya, Alexa/Miz, Banks/Amore or Jax/Braun.

AMENDED:  The sixth male Raw competitor will be decided by a fan vote, as will which New Day member will be participating.

For the Mixed Tag Team Tournament, here are my predictions for the teams:

Raw:
Miz/Alexa
Goldust/Alicia
Strowman/Asuka (winners)
Balor/Bayley
Amore/Nia
Raw Vote Getter (Joe/Jordan/Elias)/Sasha

Smackdown:
Nakamura/Becky
Zayn/Carmella
Roode/Charlotte
Rusev/Lana
Jimmy/Naomi
New Day Member/Natalya

Sad they have to cram all of this into 55 minutes, apparently cutting out Ember Moon/Peyton Royce.

Too many commercials but even so this has been the best show of the three on USA this week.  By far.

Very high quality.  Even the two squash matches gave the underdogs a chance to show off some offense.  That move by Fabian Aichner on Almas was insane.

Black vs. Cole was just WOW.  It looks like the wrestlers get to express themselves more here than on the main roster.

Impressed.  May have to break down and make that investment.

Results:
Heavy Machinery defeated Steve Cutler and Wesley Blake
Aliyah defeated Vanessa Borne
Brennan Williams defeated Kona Reeves
NXT Tag Team Championship Match: Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly defeated The Street Profits
Aleister Black defeated Buddy Murphy (Match of the Night)
NXT Women's Championship Match: Ember Moon defeated Bianca Belair

2. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn vs. Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura
3. AJ Styles vs. Jinder Mahal
4. Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin vs. Bobby Roode

She's not my favorite, far from it, but glad she'll be able to continue without missing much time.
