Title: A nice diversion
Post by: sevenof400 on January 28, 2018, 04:00:06 pm
This has nothing to do with anything around here at present, but check out this article: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/26/reader-center/arctic-winter-night.html

Unbelievable how beautiful the north can be.

It's gets kind of strange when you get that close to the Arctic Circle if you are not a native from there. When I went to Iceland 7 months ago just the way the air smells, the people, the scenery is almost out of this world(well at least our world we grow up in).... I went there in June when it was the opposite with no darkness. There would be kids playing soccer even at 1 in the morning in the summer because they are enjoying that sunlight before the dark days when winter comes. I loved it so much I plan on going back to Iceland and Norway within the next 5 years again. I'll post a couple pics below of my time there if I can figure it out(right now they're not wanting to post on here). One is from the plane of us flying over Greenland with the ice sheet below transitioning to the coastal mountains. It took my breath away and if I was ever lucky enough to go to Greenland that would be a dream seeing how magnificent it was from the plane.

I think the Iceland pics and Greenland picture I took from the plane are about 1/3 of the way down the page on this thread
