Class 5A Bulletin Board Material / Re: HeartbreakingLast post by JessieP - Today at 07:34:04 pmQuote from: Goober on Today at 07:30:53 pmJessie I agree 100 %. Just here in Wynne if a coach gets on to a kid now they threaten to just go up the road to another school. One kid recently left Wynne went to Cross County. Kid came back to Wynne. Kid has been here about half of a semester. Coach gets on to him and now mom has taken him out of athletics and kid is moving back to Cross County. Coach up there doesn't have much discipline so he will be fine up there. Doesn't help the constant recruiting that goes on also. Totty is building Wynne back the right way. Sad thing about it is kids that don't won't to do right and be a team player now has easy options out. So Jessie College and High School athletic are definitely headed the wrong direction. Sad deal. Exactly. 9

Class 5A Bulletin Board Material / HeartbreakingLast post by JessieP - Today at 07:19:34 pmI know people have been wondering "where's that idiot Jessie"? I'm still around and will share my braindead thoughts when season starts. But the sad reality is that the high school football we loved is dead, or at least in hospice care. School choice has turned Arkansas sports into a joke. The NCAA transfer portal has nothing on the lawless cluster "Ph" we have going on. For years I railed against the private schools for looting players when in reality the public schools are far far far worse. The AAA? the AAA is a joke and everyone knows it. Expecting the AAA to step in would be like sending Barney Fife to the corner of Florence and Normandie to restore order when the LA riots started up.
Growing up in LA my high school had 5,000 students. We were ranked as high as 23 my junior year in Parade magazine. We had 7 players get D1 rides, 3 of my teammates played in the NFL and Dana Maclemore won a SB with the 49ers. We were lucky to get 200 people to our games. Batesville gets 3,000 for the fall sports pep rally. When you have the Lakers, Clippers, Rams, Chargers, Raiders, Kings, Dodgers, Angels, UCLA and USC in town no one gives a toss about HS football. When I moved here I fell in love with Friday night lights. The Pioneers represented Batesville, the Yellow Jackets Wynne. Years ago the Dem-Gaz had an article about the Wynne/Batesville rivalry that said Batesville had 12 players who's fathers played at Batesville, Wynne had 16. That's organic civic pride, that's what made HS football awesome. Today players switch schools whenever they want. Parents today refuse to tell kids no. We used to base the upcoming season on how the jr high did, these days you can't base it on returning players, who knows who's coming back or who's running to another school because the coach yelled at him? Wynne got decimated by transfers because of a tornado? talk about unloyal brats. School choice was NEVER meant as a vehicle for sports but it's been hijacked by whiny kids and spineless parents. There is no loyalty or school pride. Coaching or off season workouts have very little to do with success, these days it's all about recruiting transfers. Like I said, sad and heartbreaking but mostly a shame. |
