On fourth down, a field goal is attempted from the 35 yd line.  The kick is short and lands in the endzone,  where is ball placed on turnover of downs?  on the 35 where the kick occurred from or on the 20 yd line like a regular touchback?
I've seen officials do two different things in the last few weeks, just need some clarification on this.

High school puts it on the 20. NCAA would go back to the previous spot in your example.

Thanks for the clarification.

Same field goal stops rolling at the 2. Now first and 10 from the 2! In high school, field goal is just a punt that can score.

And this one can be returned by the defending team.....just like a punt.  Correct?

Yep. Just so long as it hasn't crossed the plane of the goal line.

OK, let's take this one step further.  What if that exact thing happens, but neither team realizes it's still a live ball.  How long do you as the covering official let the ball stay live if both teams never try to either down it or return it?

Just like they would a punt.

A ball "at rest" with no player attempting to possess is dead by rule. How long you wait can be a moving target.
