Conway High School is hosting the second annual Preseason Tournament of
Champions to be held March 2-3 at the football stadium.  This will be the
second time the state has had a preseason soccer tournament of this
magnitude.  We are bringing in the past few years state champions for all
classifications to Conway to play.

The accepted teams are as follows:

7A Little Rock Catholic-5 state titles (2002, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011)
7A Conway High-2 state titles (2004, 2008)
6A Searcy High-5 state titles (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011)
5A Siloam Springs-1 state title (2011)
5A Central Arkansas Christian-1 state title (2008)
4A De Queen High-3 state titles (2009, 2010, 2011)

While there are many preseason tournaments, Conway's is the only event that
brings in all the state champions from the previous year and one other team.
Last year the at large team was Siloam Springs and they went on to win the 5A
state championship.  So this year's group of teams should be challenged
early and will have a chance to gauge themselves against the other
championship teams in the state that they rarely play because of conference
alignments.

Games will begin on Friday March 2nd at 4:30 pm with the championship game
being played on Saturday evening March 3rd.+

I will post the schedule once it is finalized.

CAC? Seriously?

Well, as a club soccer parent, I've watched soccer for many years. I will be at the tournament to watch Dylan Sherrill of CAC, very athletic and fun to watch, I'm sure there are better soccer players but as yet haven't seen one in this class. In addition Matt Hopkins of CAC signed to play w/ CBC.

Siloam was down at the half struggling to control the ball but they got it together and scored 3 goals in the last 15

saw Catholic over Dequeen in the early game 1-0
Searcy/Conway was 0-0 at the half with Conway subbing out most of their first unit

Anybody got any scores ? Especially curious about Conway v CAC....

Today's games:

Catholic over DeQueen 1-0
Searcy tied Conway      1-1
Siloam tied CAC             2-2
Searcy over DeQueen   2-1
Conway over CAC         3-0
Catholic  over  Siloam    1-0

Catholic vs Siloam was championship game so Rockets repeat as champions.

It is for sure still preseason as most teams were still struggling to find legs through all the games today.

When CAC has fresh legs they may make some noise in the 5A conference.  Though I believe in the end it will be Siloam Springs and Little Rock Christian playing for the title.

A similar showing for Catholic to what they did last year, and this, after Catholic lost 14 seniors and now has freshmen playing on varsity. I know these are meaningless pre-season games, but one could make the argument that no high school soccer game is very meaningful until state tournament time. Additionally, Catholic has a big target on their back and every team, especially the non-7A conference teams, play them like it is a championship game. Does this put to rest the debate that has occurred in previous years with some fans of lower division teams like Searcy arguing that they are better than Catholic?
