Discuss. Should be one of the better games in the state next Friday.

SouthsideSouthernerDad

I think so!  I'm also looking forward to Arkadelphia at Nashville.

Southside has a solid defense but some inexperience in the secondary. Offense can put up a lot of points when they get in a rythym and controls the clock with their ground game. If they keep the penalties down this week I think they win. Should be a close game either way.

SouthernerPride

We will definitely have to clean up all the penalties if we want to continually see success. One call in any certain situation could be the difference in a win or loss. Especially on the road. ESPECIALLY at Stuttgart with the conference title on the line.

Lumberjackfan1978

Should be a good game Stuttgart will be tough so will Southside.Good game to watch

Coaching and intangibles will decide this game. What Southside lacks in athleticism against Stuttgart is offset by superior coaching.

Yeah, let's see if Southside can coach their boys to run faster and hit harder.

have you seen Southside and Stuttgart both play this year?

I have. I will say Southside looks every bit as athletic and hit just as hard as Stuttgart did. I fully expect this to be a great game but I would not be surprised to see the Southerners up and run away with this game. Just like last year.

AverageJo24

I've watched Southside play twice this year. Their line is big, and they understand what they are suppose to do every week. They are well coached, but to me those boys seem to struggle on the conditioning side of things. I believe Stuttgart takes advantage of this, and wins a close one. Should be a great game.

You must have been at a different game than me last year. I don't consider a 14-7 game with 2 minutes to go a "run away" game. Y'all scored late on a tipped pass to put the final margin at 21-7. And this was a game where Stuttgart had 5 turnovers in the 1st half.

And where have you seen Stuttgart play this year? Were you at DeWitt or Star City?

HeberFan

It will be a good game.  Southside "pride" is away ahead of their ability right now.

Being in the right place and using proper technique can neutralize athletic advantage. Do you really believe that when let's say Greenwood beats Pinebluff it is because Greenwood out athletes them? Execution is an advantage just like athleticism is. In modern football, execution can trump athleticism and vice versa. They are the two sides of the football coin. The ideal situation is obviously to have both the athletes and the execution to put your team in a "heads I win, tails you lose" football coin flip. Warren does this very well which why in this century they have held the advantage over Stuttgart. Stuttgart often has the athletes but lacks in execution. The Ricebirds are not Dollarway bad as far as this goes, but far to often I have seen Stuttgart have to play its way out of a bad situation they put themselves in. The old days of being big and fast being good enough have come and gone you have to play smart as well.

You are underestimating the Ricebirds ability to be coached. After watching play this season...the nod is simply to the team that can hold the penalties down. Both teams are being flagged way to often for a successful run to the championship game.

Razorhummer

Should be a great game and atmosphere in Stuttgart. Southside will pull away in this one.

Potential battle for the conference championship tomorrow and this thread is dead.. Ricebirds, you working OT this week?

Well, you never answered my question...

Nobody HAS to see Stuttgart play to know the program.  Neither do we need to see Warren or Nashville.

Stuttgart always puts a quality team on the field, and, playing at home makes them even more dangerous. I expect a good game.

AverageJo24

Southside didnt just blow Pokey and Cave City out of the water. I think they are slightly overrated and believe the Ricebirds will rolllllllll

AverageJo24

And the final scores of those games do not do it justice. Yes you have to tip your cap to southside for turning it on, but both of those games were way to close for me to call them a top 4A team

SuperFan08

It doesn't matter who wins. Brookland is getting the 3 seed of the 3-4a and will go far into the state playoffs.

Nope, not in this conference.

I have despised Stuttgart (and their punt team) since the 80's. :-[
I pick Stuttgart.

That punt returner that you despise has a nephew playing this year.  :)

Gutsiest freaking call I have ever seen in High School football and ran to perfection. I'm dry now, but still hate the punt team. ;)

That was the worst weather I've ever sat in for a high school game. Definitely worth it though

Maybe from the other side of the field...not from where I sat.

Safe travels to all Southerners today...

If this game does get played, I expect the ball to be wet. I would think that this favors Stuttgart!

Southside hangs their hat on the running game and controlling the ball on offense. Rain doesn't give favor to either team this week.

I was actually referring to the physicality of the teams, but see what you wish!

You will see as I do in just a few hours.

I'm sure that 1-11 lifetime record for SS is going to be broken tonight... At Stuttgart, In the Rain!

AverageJo24

But I hear Southside will have a new turnover chain on the sideline. They are liable to get 7-8 turnovers in this rain  ;D

Love the positive vibe atleast! Apparently, you haven't looked at the Radar today though.   Good luck tonight!

Stuttgart is hard to beat in Arkansas County. Ricecake fans will start tailgating early and give a "warm" welcome to the Batesville boys. Should be a highlight game of the weekend.

KASH dba The Lumberjack

I'm looking forward to this game. Only wish the Jacks/Birds game had gotten played or at least went to the second half so we could have had some inkling on how these 3 measured up. I'm thinking it's going to be a good game with the Birds winning a close one at home.

We know how those three measure up:

1 -- Warren.

Way behind -- Stuttgart and Southside.

the same can be said for literally every team in 4A except Joe T.

SUGARTOWN

As far as the rain goes, it looks like it may be only be light rain or a shower or two during the game. Shouldn't be much of a concern (if the the weather forecasts are correct).

From losing to Dewitt, and looking quite blaaaah against Star City, to putting a thoroughly dominating performance on the ugly, red headed step child from Batesville tonight..... The Birds are out in full force tonight!

You were right...the SS bus just pulled away. Stuttgart exposes SS.
