Um.....they've made it 50% of the time since the move to 3A....anyone else got numbers like that? I think all of you mighty "3A" rejects are just upset because a school that shouldn't even be in 3A is ruining everything! I laugh every time I think of all of those JC can't compete threads! We drove through Clinton this week and it is just amazing to me that JC is able to compete, much less win, against these large schools. Clinton is one of the largest 4 or 5 3A school in Arkansas with an enrollment of 100 more students than JC. The population of Clinton is 3 times that of JC and the city footprint of Clinton is probably ten to twenty times that of JC. The vast amount of business, many national chains, lends to a lot larger tax base for the school district not to mention more opportunity for special funding for the school and athletics. From my standpoint, its that indifference and not the "infamous" Louisiana kid argument that is unfair. ;)

Obviously some do, or they wouldn't have football.............The majority of hacks on here have been pounding their chests about how "now JC sees real football" and how we couldn't handle it. We tried to tell y'all the best in 2A was no different than the best in 3A, it just drops off fast after the first 2 or 3. Fact is, JC is proving that very thing this year. Every team they have played this season, minus HA, has had a larger student pool to pull from, and it hasn't mattered.

Go look at the classification numbers JC turned in the years they dominated AA then go look at the school annual and see how many kids took school pictures in those grades and look at the number difference. I know all schools get new kids every year and a lot of good programs get good players that way but don't try to argue the fact. I have many friends and family from across the border. That fact has been proven.

The goal is that when the game is over to have spotted your opponent less points than they have spotted you. When those points are scored just go to how interesting/nerve-racking the game is. ;D

• Artificial noisemakers shall not be used at any indoor event. Artificial noisemakers are items such as, but not limited to, megaphones, air horns, bells, whistles, clickers, thunder sticks, explosive devices, tape/CD players, and radios.
• Balloons are not permitted at any AAA state play-off or championship event.
• Bare chests are not permitted. Shirts must be worn.
• Throwing objects onto the playing area be- fore, during, or after a contest is not permitted. At no time before, during, or after a contest shall spectators be permitted to enter the playing field. Verbal harassment or derogatory remarks directed toward an opponent or official are not permitted. Spectators are not permitted to hold up newspapers while teams are being introduced or when teams, cheerleaders, or dance teams are performing.

Exactly, Not Indoors..... but apparently War Memorial has their own rules. Many were concerned about the bells last night at JC, so I had the rules on hand just in case something came up. Although, JC Admin did ban air horns and whistles.

Believe me, I wasn't happy about it...... Myself and several others did all we could this week to motivate our fans to get up and get loud for our guys. They did a pretty good job of it too, but there's always room for improvement. LOL
I do kind of understand the ban on whistles. Using those during a game is pretty classless.

At the GNR concert you couldn't even have cigs and a lighter, and couldn't exit to smoke....but the peoole two rows in front of us smoked no less than three joints all through the concert.

I've followed JC football a long time, even when they were in 2A they could beat most teams in 3A. Coach Carp was a darn good coach and mentor. Good luck too both teams. 8)

JC was lucky to survive the play offs-2 weeks ago they had 3 fumbles on that last drive and recovered all 3, that's luck. Last week they fumbled in the end zone and recovered, that's lucky. Friday Ocseola was running it at will on their last drive and running clock but coach calls pass play inside the 25, interception, that's stupid play calling. I read where the QB was all this, had a strong arm but he didn't look good to me. Wobbly passes and under thrown. Neither D can tackle, If Rivercrest D can tackle someone, JC will have a long night.

Ive been watching Jc the last few weeks . I disagree with your analysis. I see a very physical defense . 5 is a bull dozier . He just runs over folks . To be the smallest school in 3a outside HA I've been impressed . When 5 ahd 8 decide they want to take a game over and 3 in the fourth quarter they do it .
I don't have a problem with eldo but when u talk crap about us I'm gonna say something about y'all lol just the way it is. I would of loved to see Union county teams win state again like it was 5 or 6 years ago

I have a hard time seeing Rivercrest winning this one. Team is so banged up, freshmen filling slots. #1 running back out, Linebackers decimated, and the list goes on. If the Colts had ALL their linebackers playing, I see a different game. I do believe the starters could partially stop that powerful JC run game. If the Dragons continue the penalties and turnovers, the Colt offense must take advantage of each and every one. Neutral field helps both teams and hurts both teams. The Colt linebackers will be the difference one way or the other.
However, it's a state championship game and I am a homer. I pick the Colts.

I have a hard time seeing Rivercrest winning this one. Team is so banged up, freshmen filling slots. #1 running back out, Linebackers decimated, and the list goes on. This has been a long and crazy year for this team. I drove down to Wilson this summer during volunteer workouts and saw this team and said to myself, this is a state championship team. I mentioned that statement to a few people who looked at me like ???. Fast forward to week 2 of the playoffs and I'm thinking, it going to be tough to win tonight. We not only lost #1 and #7, but now #25 and #73 quitting looms big over this team. Add in the fact that #4 was playing on one leg, most teams made up of kids, 15-18 year old would have folded the tent and headed to the basketball ball court. Fast forward to last Friday night. One of the guys that a I told this team was a state championship team said to me after the game," You said this before the season started, but I just didn't see it. I replied, I didn't see this team doing it either. I know there is one more game, but "this" team has the Hearts of a Champion #finishdamission - Go Colts!

Agreed, but I wasn't sure what CW affiliated served MS County.
The CW affiliate that serves Union County is located in Monroe, LA and they have never shown interest in paying the fee to pickup the games.

I've seen a lot of Rivercrest playoff football in the last few years.
Their biggest issues are when their offense gives the ball to the other team. The defense this year has played on a different level, sort of like 2010. I'd say that we could see a tight defensive battle, come down to who makes the last mistake.

Ok ppl this is a public forum so ppl come on here to talk trash not to brag or boast. Everyone in J.C. knows that Rivercrest is a great football team and is going to be a tough win. If they don't know that they are ignorant to the game of football, especially high school football. Im from J.C. and I know some of these guys are just trying to get a good argument going because that's what they like. So yall get after it. Furthermore, I do think J.C. will win but I do not see a blow out by any means. J.C. is a very talented team but they cant seem to put a full football game together. They get up and coast and then play comeback. They have a don't quit mentality, very physical, and very very talented. With that said, they are very inconsistent at times and have a strong tenancy to make stupid penalties. Just like last week, if J.C. can keep the penalties to 70-80 yards and play good special teams and not give Rivercrest a short field I say J.C. will win 34-28. Good luck to all you trash talkers hope yall have fun and get the argument that floats your boat. Hope everyone is safe and I look forward to a great game and being back at the Rock in December.

Yep. The 2016 fotball team finished 6-1 in district and 8-4 overall with a second round playoff game that could have gone either way. Not quite up to historic standards (11-2 average over the last 19 full seasons with 12 semi-final or better playoff appearances during that time), but more than respectable and something 30+/- other 3A teams might would have liked to have done.

No. 2 Rivercrest vs. No. 1 Junction City
This is the second playoff meeting in the past two years. Rivercrest downed visiting Junction City 14-13 in the second round last year at "The Cotton Patch." That was the last time Junction City lost, while Glen Rose eliminated Rivercrest the following week. Rivercrest coach Kelly Chandler and Junction City coach Steven Jones lead their alma maters into this game. These teams are headed in opposite directions following this game with Rivercrest ticketed for Class 4A in 2018-2019 and Junction City bound for Class 2A.
Rivercrest salvaged a share of its third straight 3-3A title with a 28-25 Week 10 win over archrival Osceola. The late-season dramatics were necessary following a Week 8 loss at Newport. "I think with some other teams a game like that may have sunk our ship, and we'd have folded it up," Coach Kelly Chandler says. "But this group has the right attitudes and just wouldn't be denied late in the year." Rivercrest rides a six-game winning streak to War Memorial Stadium and has allowed 14 points per game in the playoffs. Junior quarterback Demilon Brown has passed for 612 yards and seven touchdowns and rushed for 1,211 yards (9.7 yards per carry) and 17 scores, both team highs. Super sophomore J.D. Winda paces Rivercrest with 14 catches for 287 yards and five TDs and 74 tackles (19 for loss). Winda has rushed for 967 yards and six TDs. Senior Jamyka Franks collected 69 tackles (20 for loss). Junior playmaker Kentavious Robinson is questionable on Friday after breaking his arm Week 10. If he is active, he likely would play in a cast.
Junction City earned the outright 6-3A title but had to rally in the fourth quarter of all three playoff wins. Last week against Osceola, the Dragons watched a 30-7 first-half lead evaporate into a 38-30 fourth-quarter deficit. Junction scored the game's final 14 points and intercepted two passes in the red zone to advance to its first state final since 2014 when it won its third straight Class 2A title (38-6 over Hazen). "You'd rather not trail in some of these games," Jones says. "But I'm blown away by the resiliency of our kids. They haven't stopped believing at any point." Senior running back Hishmma Taylor owns the school's single-season rushing record with 2,405 yards (7.7 yards per carry) and 28 TDs. QB Shuvasceiaye Frazier has passed for 1,198 yards and 17 TDs and sprinted for 1,397 yards and 18 scores. Senior Jalen Davis has corralled 35 passes for 705 yards and seven TDs (all team-highs). Senior linebacker Terrell Gibson fuels the stingy Junction City defense (20.2 points per game) with 112 tackles (16 for loss). Gibson returned an interception 99 yards for a score last week against Osceola. Nasty senior lineman Brock McGoogan collected 56 tackles (9.5 for loss) this year with five sacks. Junior Kevontae Haynes intercepted five passes this year. Junction City does not expect anyone to miss the final.

Thank you gentlemen. From the JC games I've seen the Dragons seem to have a few more challenges with a power back.
Now back to my common opponent question. I know the JC-McGehee game was early, and I heard more than a few Dragon faithful who didn't want to have to face them a second time, but while the JC-McGehee game and Rivercrest-McGehee games both ended with Owl losses, those results were in very different ways. OM, what are your thoughts?

Probably due to the fact that Rivercrest and JC are two totally different team. What I can guarantee you is that whatever Rivercrest or JC done or didn't do against McGehee, will not matter in 1 day 23 hours and 26 mins.

We were a much better team late due to cool temps and being healthy. Crest had a veteran bigger line against our sophomores. How that plays out on the finals I have no idea. Two great teams. I think it will be close. I will leave the camp fire to watch.

That's downright silly. No one has overlooked JC in the playoffs. They entered playoff season ranked No. 1 in 3A. Besides, even if people were inclined to overlook the No. 1 team, numerous JC posters would have made that well-nigh impossible.

The only exception I see to the above is if the Dragons continue to put the ball on the ground but fail to recover almost all of their fumbles as they have done to date in the playoffs.

I agree, Rivercrest doesn't have enough points to get comfortable, JC has a knack for scoring fast and lots!!
Bad snaps, turnovers and penalties. Can't afford those in week 15.
Doesn't seem like the officials are calling against the colts. Zebras seem to be doing a fine job, except one motion call and that awful late hit call against the dragons.
5 turnovers 3 of which was lost to RC is a lot to overcome. But JC hasn't seen a D like the one their playing tonight. Those turnovers have been caused not just given away....

Wow! I didn't see that massacre coming. I guess I better keep my day job. It seems I have no future as a prophet.
However, I did leave myself a loophole. [I practiced law once upon a time. We do that, you know.] The Dragons must have used up their rabbit's foot in previous playoff games. This time, they lost 3 fumbles to go along with two interceptions, and a failure to recover a Rivercrest onside kick.

I dont think jc was overrated in 3a, they beat a lot of 3a teams the last two years. Just not RIvercrest. Those weak defenses you talked about were 3a. If anything, jc was hurt by some of the lower caliber teams they played to prepare for tonight. By the way, how many undefeated teams did the lowly 3-3a put out of the playoffs?

So much nonsense on here sometimes. Congrats. to both Rivercrest and JC. JC had a great season, almost perfect, and was fun to watch, even though sloppy at times. One of the most exciting backfields in the state and one of the very best in school history. Though I get the vibe that some JC fans would rather take poison than say this. Id rather see JC stay in 3A and don't care about the numbers as a football fan. I'm glad HA has to play up. Props. to JC on the season. Showed a lot of talent for sure, and a lot of heart when on the brink of defeat a couple of times. Really great season.
And Rivercrest looked like a disciplined and well-oiled machine and the team that deserves to be the state champs. this year. Clearly the most consistent and best defense in 3A, IMO. 14, 13, and 14 against Mayflower, McGehee and JC. And playmakers on the offensive side. I actually had the Colts in a very close one here because of that D. Congrats. on winning the state championship. Its not an easy thing to do.
Congrats to the Colts, they did a heck of a job and manhandled jc line on both sides of the ball. That was the big difference. I hated to see us lose especially that bad but 13-1 on the year and runners up is not bad at all.8 championship appearances in past 14 years isn't bad either regardless of classification. I'm glad we was able to compete in 3a unlike some predicted and would love to see us stay in 3a bc it has made for some exciting games. Now on to the hardwood. See y'all on the other side lol
Rivercrest has tradition and hard nose kids that win. They have had nfl players, cfl players, and several d-1 players. They have won every decade since the school was formed in 71. They win. They dont get statewide press cause they are basically in tn but they have a great program. CONGRATS south Missco

JC was misclassified last year and this year due to the AAA not realizing the ADE changed the way the ADE data was sent to the AAA.

I kind of expected Rivercrest to win because their defense was pretty salty. However. I didn't expect a blowout. Congratulations to both teams for making it this far. You just can't fumble the ball 4 times, throw 2 INTs and get that many penalties in a final game and expect to win. I really would have thought atleast one of JC coaches would have told the players to stop carrying the ball like it was a loaf of bread.

By 30? It's been a while. I think Hampton did it in 2004.
This is however their first bad loss in a finals and the first bad loss overall since 2010 to Bearden and losing to Smackover 41-21 in 2005.

Junction has lost 36 games in the last 20 seasons. Most would be same class losses. It's a little difficult determining where the LA schools would fall under the AR classification system. If I remember correctly, the Bearden loss in 2010 was a mercy rule where the Dragons scored late.

You cannot win games without it. JC showed up as a bunch of players not a team. I apologize for such a poor showing, but JC never showed up. But I will say JC has had a few really good 2A teams that could beat some 4A, heck I will say there is a 6A team they could compete with, LR Fair, those guys can't beat each other in practice!! But seriously though, congrats on making the finals, I think your new coach will always have them in the mix, he seems like a good offensive guy. Not sure who the DC is, if he brought someone in or he has been there, but this wasn't your typical JC Defense. Maybe they were young?

When a game is never really going to be played, I'd prefer to take into consideration a non-biased third party that utilizes objective data rather than what just turns into a he-said-he-said opinion fest.
I'm with you on this year's JC team having an atypical Dragon defense. Jones brought no assistants with him. All the current assistants have history with the program and no change was made at DC. I'm not sure if the hurry up is to blame or not. It puts up points (except last Friday) but it seems like JC morphed into the college teams that use it and those teams generally have little or no defense. The kids this year bought into the offense scheme change and that's a lot of the battle. This year's team did well but too often played sloppy. The good news was they had confidence and were able to out athlete all of their opponents but one. Hopefully, as the kids in the system get used to the change they can play it with more discipline.
Wildcat_booster wasn't talking that smack when he sent me this PM several weeks back. If you're going to talk it, talk it even when you have no audience.

Thoughts about the game. Rivercrest did get beat by Newport wasn't their night to win. Rivercrest beat Osceola it was their night to win as it was Junction City night to win against them also. It wasn't Junctions night to win for sure but it could of been. The old saying any team can be beat is a true statement. Rivercrest played a flawless game and certainly earned the title. But there's always contributing factors. Think about them. Great season and congrats to both teams especially to Rivercrest.

FYI Crest defeated Gosnell the team that won the conference they are going to. They will be fine. At least they are moving up and not down lol. Do JC want a non conference. game with Crest or they wanna stay undefeated in 2A ball. So far they are 0-2 vs Crest right ouch. BTW one of Crest championships happens to be 4A so they been there done that. Relax JC game over yall did good. Good luck next season.

Oh only difference Colts will not come on here making a post saying they will win 4A they know they will have to battle. I had a Fordyce fan tell me J Davis is her cousin that she hate they lose for him but glad to cause JC been bragging how they were gone run through 3A this year. Oh well end of story. On to 4A for the 2017 3A Champs RC Colts.

The Dragon staff was in a similar situation in 2003 when they beat Barton 40-12. I always appreciated that the JC staff made an effort to make sure every Dragon got on the WMS field that game. The freshmen on that 2003 JC team did make it back in 2006 as seniors, but for some players 2003 was their only chance to participate in a state championship game. Steven Jones was a sophomore backup QB on that team and an example. His and others getting in late in the '03 game was their only state championship playing experience.

I believe Everyone touched the field. It's hard to tell when a "4a team" don't have but 30+ players.

You really should research your facts. That game was the ending of a era for Barton. I guess you aren't old enough to know about Barton and Papa Frank. If you were you wouldn't be talking that way. Junction posters might talk some smack but they also recognize a team that beat them. I don't think anyone forgot to congratulate Crest. JC had its first team defense in because, even with a 27 point lead - in the red zone - with 3 minutes left in the game, RC still had their first team in. C'mon 7, it's the coach with the big number on the score board who dictates when the 2 and 3 deep kids get to play.
No excuse, the 2017 3A final was lopsided, but watching Carpenter be on the big number side for years allows for a pretty good point of reference on how those game should be handled.
Somebody (not a JC fan) mentioned something about JC and ordering rings. I mentioned the sign Bearden used in their Mt Ida game and how it didn't work out that way, I said JC wouldn't do what Bearden did. I was wrong. Copying Bearden's sign sure turned into bad juju. Although in JC's previous WMS appearance they used a reference to "put a ring on it" and that game worked out better. That was a 38-6 win over Hazen in 2014. On a lighter note, I still think the playoff banner sign that many teams have used to have the other team tell their girlfriends they'll be free next Friday night is clever. :)
Over the years, JC has had some gifted freshmen who started too. Congratulations to the RC player who led RC in tackles. But my reference to getting players in the game was the freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors who are considered the 2 and 3 deep players. The JC seniors were freshmen on that 2014 state champion team and got back to be significant contributors. But for many of the non-starters, last Friday may have been their only chance to play in a state championship game. In a blowout game, which this year's 3A game was, everybody, players and the players' families, should have had an opportunity to bank that memory.

The 2010 game was actually a 3A game (Colts in 3A here). I was at it. An almost miserable game to attend weather wise. Not wet, but 40 degrees and the wind blowing 20 mph plus the whole night. Advantage to the running team that night which was RC.

Yea. Both teams were very physical and both with speed. The weather was really awful in that one. HA depended more on moving it though the air that year (as most). Had Seth Keese who was both all-state as QB and also defensive player of the year in 3A that year. But RC went a perfect at 15-0 in a dog fight and showed they could win a game against anybody that year no matter what the weather was doing.

If I remember correctly, RC's biggest challenge was against Earle in the playoffs, where they got down 27-0, but pulled out the win.
