Marmaduke Boys will be open.
Marmaduke boys job is now posted on the school website.
Josh Bateman to Marmaduke from Tuckerman?
Any truth to Bateman going to Duke? I heard Tuckerman had a lot of talent coming back.
Pure speculation -- The Marmaduke job would be a homecoming for him, and he is a great young coach.
Tuckerman does have a lot coming back, and that might make the decision tough for him.
I gotcha. It will be interesting to see what happens. Is duke supposed to b very good?
Don't think he will leave Tuckerman.
If I was guessing I would think he's going to stay at tuckerman.

Anyone know how their junior high was last year. I know the senior boys don't return a boy over 6ft according to their roster. Hard to compete in 5a with that kind if size.

Brookland currently has 2 Girls playing for the Arkansas Mavricks,
Jr's Rachel Gramling and Bailey Lovrein
Plus they will have Ally Loflin, Whitney Wagganer, and Hannah Lovrein as Sophs next year
Maybe they will bump their elementary coach up to senior high.

Where did coach Richey go?
He told the girls he was stepping down, I heard he was interested in the administrative side. That way he can spend more time with his family
Thanks Olfan for the info.
I've never heard of a coach getting into admin for more free time. Every admin I ever met says they spend way more Time working than they did as coaches
I'm pretty sure he is currently the asst principal already. That with the addition of another child on the way it was just his time to get out. He's done a great job building that program up, I'm sure who ever they choose to fill his spot will do a great job. They will already have the best asset around with Coach Hoffman working with the younger players.
Out of the jobs posted, has anyone heard any rumors about schools getting close to hiring?

This is false. He may be leaving Trumann, but it will not be for the assistant opening at Marion.
Did he apply at GCT?
JMO, but it wouldn't surprise me if Real ends up at his hometown EPC. I have heard a lot of EPC folks weren't happy with their coach at the end of the past season.
Manila Sr girls came open today. 12 month contract with $5k stipend and if you have all state player as a kid, it might turn into a 13 month contract with $10k stipend. Just kidding ;D ;D ;D

Was told that he wasn't going to do that...Never know though... Reason I think the BOys Coach might get the Sr Girls if he wants them is he finished out the year as the 7th Grade Girls, and Jr High Girls HC as well as all 3 boys teams.
I seriously doubt the boys coach will want all six teams. That is a recipe for coaches getting divorced. Especially considering the low stipend associated with that. You don't do that unless a potential state championship run is realistic and you're still trying to make a name for yourself.

It's not real common, but there's enough that do it(Hutchcraft at Guy Perkins, Jackson at Acorn, more common in 1A schools I suppose) that it wouldn't surprise me....Especially considering the job has been "open" since January....and Hector is have some money issues, so it could make some sense there as well. The Coach is also young, believe this year was his first as a SR High HC, after a few years coaching Junior High at Waldron... I'm not saying it will happen...just that it wouldn't surprise me.
Hutch hasn't done all six in many moons. He has a jr high coach in years past. I believe you are correct on Jackson. Its a saver for the school$$$ but it will kill your new boys coach. If you do all six, and dedicate yourself to each team the way the kids deserve, you'll either become an alcoholic, get divorced, or leave. Once again, if you know your competing for state titles, its exhaustion that is easier to take.

Brookland just got a good coach, but prolly just lost Coach Hoffman and the driving force of a very talented middle school program, not to mention Coach Hoffman's 2 Daughters, Lotti Hoffman who started as a 7th grader last year for our Jr girls who were Conference champs , and Beaner Hoffman was prolly one the best 5th grade guards in this area......
Really surprised they didn't offer it to Hoffman.??????????

Yes I could be wrong I don't know. I just seem to remember a Brian Martin coaching at greenwood.
Yes Greenwood! Very surprised he would leave there!
NEA Olfan, I agree with your assessment of the Brookland hire except I am not a big fan of the coach they hired. IMO, should have given Hoffman a shot at this job given the work he has put in at Brookland.
Colossal mistake on the part of Brookland administration. Parents will not go for the screaming and belittling of players on a regular basis. Nettleton had apathy toward their program and parents didn't care and there was very little fan support. So, he didn't encounter a lot of negativity from parents because they didn't care anyway. But, Brookland whose fans are extremely invested will not be happy when Smith throws one of his classic fits. People seem to have a short memory of the things he did at Valley View that led to his departure. I, too, believe they have lost a driving force behind their program. Smith expects to step right in and reap the benefits of all of Hoffman's hard work. But, somebody else will be glad to give Hoffman an opportunity to run their program. What must the Brookland administration have been thinking. All Jason Smith ever won was a few NEA tournament titles because he always had the largest classification school in the tournament. Not an accomplishment! He is just running from a conference he knows he can't win.

He is definetly a screamer. Brookland screwed up in my opinion.
I'm usually silent on a website like this but I'm going to say that Brookland did a great hire. You must not know Coach Smith on a personal level and he definitely doesn't need anyone to toot his horn for him. But I know for a fact when his players leave him, they leave with 2 things. They leave knowing that they left the school a better person and they left a man that they can depend on like a father figure for the rest of their lives. Ask 90% of his players and that's he type of man you will hear about. I'm honestly shocked he left Nettleton but he will do a tremendous job at Brookland. Coaching goes way beyond what we see on the sidelines, just know that. Because he yells at a kid doesn't mean he's a bad person nor does it mean he hates them. Figure out what type of person he is to his kids outside of basketball. That's where you will know the true Jason Smith. That's my two cents, take it how you want.
I would say its a pretty good hire.

I'll agree with RedWolf, coach smith is a great coach and will do good at Brookland. I'm confused by the people who says that he will not be successful and will be ran out of brookland for screaming too much...Unless I'm mistaken Coach Gross is still coaching the boys at brookland. Gross has done an amazing job with the boys program, but he is not always the most kind hearted person you'll meet on a court ;) As far as correct hire, I agree with everyone about not hiring coach Hoffman. Smith will do a great job, but anyone around NEA knows what a great program Hoffman has built over the past few years with Brooklands younger players. He is a 24/7 365 coach, and does more to develop players then anyone else around. They will do just fine with out him there, but anyone who knows anything about basketball knows how much it's going to affect brooklands program if they lose him.
I also agree with RedWolf2014 about coaches and it's obvious that they can take a lot of screaming and yelling at Brookland. Look at their elementary coach and boys coach. People at Brookland don't know how lucky they are for getting Coach Smith. You just avoided one controversy after another and a few years of pure misery. All of you at Brookland had better thank your administration and school board for hiring Coach Smith. You are lucky today. Oh and don't feel bad for Coach Hoffman I'm sure he can find another elementary job somewhere.

Lamar's boys coach retired. Not a bad program. Usually competitive. Downside is pay.
Midland boys are 2nd fiddle to baseball, are they not?
Newport is a tough job due to football.
Who's in the running from Lamar?
I've never heard of them being a baseball powerhouse or anything like that. I do know they have had 2-3 coaches in the last 2-3 years. Maybe they really want the basketball back to how the 1A was when they were. They are consolidated from my understanding.
Newport used to be good a few years back with the Dean brothers from what I remember. Football is going to be tough anywhere for a basketball coach so thats just something to adapt to.

Apparently not a Hoffman fan are you Redrider. If Hoffman has a good 5th and 7th grader coming up he will find a jr-sr position. That's one of primary things a lot of schools look at these days. Especially schools who don't have anything coming up of their own.
Some places have a tougher time succeeding than others generating support due to football culture.
Newport is one of those places

Bay wanted Hoffman last year and he already has offers.
I'm curious why Smith wanted out of Nettleton , he had one of the best Jr girls teams in this area last year, lost Ally Tucker, who also played for Hoopsters, but lots talent coming up for Nettleton with T Walker in the post.
You have to get them to senior high before they can win in senior high. His younger players when he was at Marmaduke ended up beating Marmaduke because they played for Rector when they were older. A lot of others and a lot of great kids from great families quit all together. Some 4.0 + students who were good players because they liked to study more than play basketball. The 24/7 365 coach is the perfect description of him. Very few kids can play 48-50 weeks a year and if he's your senior high coach that is just what it is with no compromises. If you can't do it he will recruit players from other schools to replace you. He is and always will be (the grass is always greener on the other side) guy. Oh and you can forget playing volleyball, softball or track or any other sport. If you hire him you'll love him the first few years and then good luck. He is however one of the best coaches anywhere at teaching young kids fundamentals of the game. If you want him for his daughters you had better wait until the are a little older because they will be playing for another school before they graduate. Don't just take my word for it research his record everywhere he's been. Best thing he did at Marmaduke was to bring Coach Smith over here, we will be forever grateful for that, because we wouldn't have won the state without him and his leadership over the years.

Sounds like the girls from Rector wanted to work hard in the summer and improve and they did,
I know He doesn't force any of the Brookland girls to play Hoopsters , it's their choice. And yes he gives girls from other schools the option to play travel ball in the summer.
Brookland girls has turned around because of the work by coach Archer putting in a lot of time with this last years sr group when they were in middle school., and as they got older Menely Long, Cali Milligan, Alexa Thompson, along with Marmadukes very on Western Kentucky signee S. Bopp all played for Hoffmans Hoopsters.
Ask any coach , you have to put in the time ,practice ,plus travel to raise your level of play
Hoffmans 5th and 6th girls lost a total of 4 games I believe last year, pretty sure the beat out Marmaduke in 5th grade girls League Championship at BIC, so I could see why your not a fan
Marmaduke has Volleyball???
Believe me I went to the Brookland girls game 10-15 years ago and they couldn't win 2-3 games a year , and one year they didn't even have enough to have a team. The last 3 years we have gone to State, Every good High school Program starts at the Elementery and Middle school

So your saying he is very dedicated about developing players , and programs.
The last 3 years we have gone to State, Every good High school Program starts at the Elementery and Middle school
who got this all started back when they had not won a game in two years? Not anyone you have mentioned! This all started with coach richey and has grown to this because of the work he put towards this progra,. Others like Hoffman have came along and helped but give credit to the person who started it when it was nothing and stayed with it and is leaving this program in great shape! Like most people we forget where they came from and where this program was!
The key is this. He is not your Senior and Junior high coach now. He is doing the perfect thing right now. Coaching young players and building players. As for them beating our elementary. Nobody cares or will ever remember what happened in elementary. We just won the state championship with players that lost a lot of elementary games by a lot of points. Who cares. When he high tails it out of Brookland with school choice you can go with him but be prepared to move every three years and move to different states.
You can thank Michael Archer. He is the unsung hero behind the Brookland turn around and also Bobby Gross for marrying Rachel Gramlings mother and transferring her from GCT.
Well RR, sounds like you have a real beef with your former co-worker, does his friend who you sit on the bench with know how you really feel? Spencer Hoffman is a basketball coach and he doesn't care about other sports which is exactly the same way the majority of coaches feel. Show up sometime to Brookland and look at how many parents and kids show up every day from all over the area. Perhaps those angels from wonderful families were not as dedicated as they should have been. Marmaduke's reason for having a ring is gone now, (who enjoyed playing for Hoffman), good thing because I'm not sure your ego could stand another championship.
The last time he coached our seniors was in 4th grade and he coached our juniors while they were in 3rd grade only 2 players left out of that group. I'm pretty sure that would make our current team and future teams Rick Smith's who deserves 100% of the credit for what's happened at Marmaduke. Coach Hoffman is perfect for what he's doing now. I never said he couldn't build or teach young kids, quiet the opposite he's very good at that but they can all come and go as they please and that's a big difference. If you think he cares anything about Brookland you just watch him high tail it out of Brookland since his plan didn't work out. He'll be smoozing someone else before the week is over. And by the way Rick Smith is still at Marmaduke and he and his players hard work is the reason we won it all.
I have nothing against Marmaduke -and I believed I did give Credit to Coach Archer, Baltz does a great job with our Jr. Girls
Coach Richey of course was Obviously essential at turning our program around
I agree with you NEA Razorback. Well said.
The fact is this: While past success is a great thing and shows a knowledge of the game, it does not guarantee success or failure at a new place. Each hire should be judged off of the results, not people's opinions of what a coach has done before.
Will hiring a new coach bring excitement? Yes. Will losing a successful coach bring disappointment? Yes.
Saying a hire is a bad move or that someone is going to move on is purely speculation at this point. Brookland will find out the whether it's a good or bad move soon enough, but trying to tear down two coaches in this is uncalled for.

Manila should announce on the girls opening within 36-48 hours. I would venture to say, there will be some VERY surprised people. Because he yells at a kid doesn't mean he's a bad person nor does it mean he hates him. Figure out what type of person he is to his kids outside of basketball. That's where you will know the true Jason Smith. That's my two cents, take it how you want.
Coach Gross is a teddy bear! He is way to soft on players, that program is nowhere close to where it was when he got there. ;D ;D

Red Rider, This Coach Smith you seem to think so highly of..........................Is this the same Coach Smith that the self-proclaimed Royal Family of Marmaduke made move off their property after a heated dispute over the amount of playing time their Princess was receiving as a Sophomore? Is this the same Coach Smith that the self-proclaimed Royal Family of Marmaduke leveled false allegations of an affair against in hopes he would be fired? Is this the same Coach Smith with a leadership style that so upset a member of the self-proclaimed Royal Family of Marmaduke that he quit his elementary coaching job and sent his resignation letter to the Daily Press? Just wondering. You seem to have a much better opinion of him than they do.
When did they get a "Royalty" in Marmaduke?😳😳😳

Got me to thinking who has won a State Championship (in the area) who would have applied. So my guesses are the following, don't know all their names so I'll just list the schools:
Marmaduke- talent starting to run low, may be looking to get out now.
Riverview - who knows, nothing suprizes me anymore
Paragould - great run, not sure what he has coming back
Mt. View - won in 2011, looking for a new scenery?
Calico Rock - won in 2011, same as above?
So my guess is one of these 5? Plus Manila prolly pays as much if not more than all these schools.
You obviously don't know much about Marmaduke. The Royal family in Marmaduke is a former supt and his family, not the one you are talking about. I guess from what I've witnessed here the former elementary coach that you mentioned since that time I've saw them coaching together many times over the past few years including the last few weeks, so apparently they have put all that behind them and seem to me to be pretty close friends. I know both of them and they both worked hard to get to the same goal and had some disagreements along the way but they did achieve their goal which has been all of ours here at Marmaduke for many years. Knowing both of them and considering both of them friends, I know both of them have put the past in the past and both of them are working toward more state championships for Marmaduke. If you don't believe that just open your eyes and watch what they are this spring and summer.
Does anyone know who Cross County hired?

This former Supt. you speak of...............Is this the same Supt. that the Patriarch of the self proclaimed Royal Family stopped speaking to after the former Supt. supported his son-in-law for the School Board instead of the Patriarch of the self proclaimed Royal Family? Is this the same Supt. that got the Patriarch and his son a job with the housing authority and the Patriarch's daughter-in-law a job at the school?

Just because they interviewed folks with great resumes doesn't mean those folks were genuinely excited to take the job. She may have had the most passion for embracing the situation.
Good Luck Coach Fowler!!!
Woodland and Ramay 8th Grade Jobs are open and didn't know how much interest that would draw from lower level high school head coaches. Have heard some other smaller schools in NWA may be available in the next few weeks but those are just ramblings.

He is just running from a conference he knows he can't win.
pretty harsh review of a sucessful coach, who truly cares about his players? I would have loved for my daughter to have played for a coach with the passion & character of Coach Smith.

I do not know this to be true...just speculation on my part. It has been hard to keep a team (especially girls) fielded for the three Ozark Mountain Schools (Western Grove, B-P, & St. Joe), so I'm thinking maybe one year coaching all four then they will combine basketball as Ozark Mountain like they have all other sports. Again, this is just my thoughts and nothing anyone has told me.

Is Coach Ellis NEW? Don't know that name. Has she coached before?
I'm not sure, I haven't heard to much about her
Angie Cossey Ellis will be a good fit for Brookland. She will do a good job. She coached for a year or so at Nettleton. She played at Clemson and played hs ball at Bradford. Her father, Bill, coached high school basketball for many years.

Yes, first coaching/teaching job period. Graduated from Armorel in 2009 I believe. Hometown guy so he should do a good job.
First job right out of college at your alma mater is going to be a difficult job for Coach Kortan. He will be coaching kids that were in 7th grade when he graduated so they may not look at him as coach and more of a friend starting out. He very well could turn Armorel around and start winning early but from my past experience coaching at your alma mater is a lot harder the younger you are. Good luck to Coach Kortan and the Tigers though!!

The Russellville job would be a good fit for the Paris guy, IMO. I don't know him but I've seen him Coach a bit- demands players work, not afraid to yell, expects kids to play tough.
Russellville could use some of this (from my limited observations of RV program)

His wife got a promotion to a better job in Tulsa, so Sand Springs makes sense. Significant promotion for him as well, as they are a 6A school in Oklahoma.
Wouldn't be shocked to see Elkins promote an assistant to that role.

Totally agree. And he is pretty good now. But the 4A East have several good coaches. Let's see, Westside, Pocahontas, Brookland, Gosnell just to name a few. Then there is Trumann. I'm looking at it like this. He goes in there and stays 4-5 years. The best he finishes is 7-15. What school is then going to hire him when he wants out? I think he can coach, and he is pretty good right now, just hate to see a young good coach get his first head coaching job at a school where things will not end on a good note. Trumann is tradionally a baseball and football school.

They are LOADED. should be a lot of pressure on them not only next year, but for several years after that. Only lost one player that saw significant minutes from this years runner up team. The sophomore class went undefeated in Jr. High. This years JH lost one game. (All 5 starters fouled out at Mtn. Home) now add a quality guard from Western Grove (incoming 10th grader).

The Marked Tree girls job will be hard to fill I'm sure but I think any opening within the 2A-3 girls will be hard because everyone will be in the "Rebuilding" phase now! As a Marmaduke fan I did really enjoy the MT girls play and wish them the best in the coaching search! I'm not really sure who will get the honor to coach MT but there is this guy from MT named hunter vick but most call him vick I think he is attending ASU to become a coach! As a Marmaduke fan I don't know him personally but i do hear alot about him and i have seen him at MT games when we play against them! He seems like a great person if he doesnt apply at MT it will be a shock to me but whoever gets him i hear will be getting a great person and guy that has passion for girls basketball!

As far as I know Carson is in there. The coach that backed out was the Greenwood Girl's Assistant, then they hired Carson.

Ok, thank you. I knew their coach had backed out wasn't sure that they replaced him already.

Coach Spencer Hoffman will do a fine job there!!
His daughters will help build that program
So Hoffman turned down the MO. job for the Riverside job? O yea his daughters are real good.
Carlisle boys just came open...
Any talent at carlisle? They have had trouble keeping basketball coaches on the boys side the past few years. Always a power in football but never hear anything about their boys basketball program
Not much talent left in boys athletics at Carlisle. There will be some down years coming.
Has Greers Ferry Westside hired a Girls coach yet???

Actually, there is talent. Especially in jr high. There are a few sprinkled in there in high school. But it has been down for sure. They are just talent light in the 15 & 16 classes. Just not very many.

How did their Jr high finish in conference last year?
I think they finished 5th or 6th in a 10 team conference
Mostly 8th graders last year. They should be much improved this year. I think the finished 5th.
They just need a coach that will utilize their abilities correctly, and they could be pretty good this year. The high school boys should be improved. Still tough to make regionals out of the conference, but they could sneak in to that 4 spot.
Forrest City hired Erica Taylor away from PW
Will be interesting to watch a permanent sub with no coaching certification or experience take over a 5A school

What's going on at Westside Greers Ferry. That job has been open for a while. It keeps getting reposted.
My guess they are being too picky this late in the game.
I think small school coach jobs are getting harder to fill with the type of coaches that the school board wants. The good coaches like to run their programs , and do not want the board and parents running it. When you gain a reputation, whether true or not, it is hard to overcome and many of the good experienced ones will not apply. With any Class A school the threat of consolidation is always in the back of their minds.

I notice a lot of small schools generally want a core certified coach as well. That weeds out about half the coaches out there many of which are very good applicants.

Small schools can't afford to pay a coach to just be a coach...
If smaller schools pay was competitive to bigger schools then a lot of coaches would go the smaller route. Usually a better atmosphere, have to share less athletes and don't have to rely on tons of talent to be competitive. Small schools lack the $$ to pay decent coaches to make the switch
Money is not always the attraction to coaching at a bigger school.
Also, the ability to pay better is being diminished as time goes on.
Finally, the coaching pay often mirrors the overall teacher pay scale for a district.

Could it be the prospect of having less Teaching Duties as well?

Might be in some cases.
I wasn't trying to be coy. My sense is that the ability to pay large salaries is on the decline.
There are some very good, experienced coaches out there that have passed on the opportunity to move on to the bigger schools for various reasons. There are some very good basketball minds in Class A and 2A that simply want to avoid football. Sometimes the money isn't worth the headaches.
Salary scale on decline is a hogwash... Salary scale is based on teacher pay true. But most schools teacher pay has to do with enrollment thus larger school. I would have to agree that avoiding football is a big plus for staying small. Football is a money pit for most districts

I'm not selling the virtues as a end all be all for coaching careers.
I'm well aware and agree there are some who prefer smaller environments and still are good coaches. I'm just saying there are many reason some want the bigger stage.
Some seek and want that kind of "advancement".
But lets me honest, some of those smaller schools are 'starter' jobs.

Didn't say it was.
I'm saying the inventing of way to pay is on the decline. Scale is scale. But the extra duties, FTE's and more have been refined a bit in districts that would previously pay more.
Regardless coaches/teachers probably don't get paid enough to put up with the Bologna parents and students give them these days.

We've had this discussion before, but in my opinion officials are making pretty good money these days. A far bit more than they made 20 years ago. I do see what you're saying though. Fans can be very stupid and make things personal. I wish some people could see video of the way they act at games. Emphasis on the word game.

Did it for over 40 years...
Consider a game today with a 7:00 kickoff (basketball really isn't much different).
Drive an hour or more in many cases with gas at $2.50-$2.75 a gallon. Forget the wear and tear on the car.
Be there an hour and a half before kickoff; 2 hours in some cases.
Work a 3 hour game.
Take 30 minutes to shower (if you can get one) and change clothes.
Drive an hour or more back home after sucking down a Big Mac.
Get to bed somewhere around midnight, if you are lucky.
All for anywhere between $80 and $95 bucks ($25-$30 way back when).
No complaining, but it isn't as glamorous as you think. Do the math.
But you know something? We did it because we loved it. If you broke even at the end of the season it was a great year! Hardly a profit center.

In the basketball world these guys get to the arena about 30 minutes before the first tip. So if it's a three game night they will get there at 5:00 and leave as soon as the games are over at around 9:30. They are fed at the game. Some places do better than others at feeding the officials but the average guy will eat a cheeseburger and candy bar and usually have a couple of bottles of soda or Gatorade. That's about $6 worth of food they don't have to pay for.
Each man will make $120 per night in our area. So for a 4 and 1/2 hour night that's about $26 per hour. Pretty good supplemental income in this day and age considering that back in about 1993 they were making around $50 a night per man. An official that works only 2 nights per week can make over $4,000 but most will work three nights and make over $6000 unless my figures are wrong.
Now.....the ones that do it for the money ruin it for the guys that do it for the kids and/or the love of the game. But in my opinion, they are paid quite handsomely. But yet they want more, and that money has to come from somewhere.
Make another thread for that stuff this is about coaching jobs not official jobs.. Anyone can be an official

Last comment from me on the off topic topic, but I make my own lunch when I go to work and pay the gas to get there just like every other person. They still make $120 per night. It's their choice if they go to Sonic. No wonder most of them are so heavy if they are eating on their way to the game and at the game. We've added a third official so they don't have to work as hard as they did with 2 man crews. I'm just saying people yell at referees. It's probably never enough money to get publicly humiliated by another adult, but it's still a good lump of change. The good ones are worth every penny. The sad reality is that the bad ones make the same pay.
That's all.

This is the summer..... just sit back and enjoy! I say keep derailing it. Also, you should go to the 4A football boards and hear the banter between Warren, Nashville, and Stuttgart. They are kings of derailment.

Deer and Rural Special are looking for coaches that would probably be coaching all the teams...
Did Rural Specials coach quit that they hired earlier this summer?
Hadn't heard that they had hired a coach..
The head boys' job at Mountain Home could be opening soon. They are on the verge of hiring a new Athletic Director and from the list of candidates I have seen, current head boys basketball coach Mitch Huskey has to be considered the front runner to get that job.

I have made calls to numerous schools. Only job openings that I know of are listed:
1) Scranton
2) Waldron
3) Atkins assistant
4) Two Rivers assistant
Is the Waldron job boys or girls?
Boys. I just heard about the job at Waldron. Scranton has two homeboys interviewing next Tuesday.
Where did Brown at Waldron and Robey at Scranton go?
Cossatot boys is Cartwright I believe
Cart to Cossatot River
Robey to Dover
Shane Davis is coaching boys and girls at west side gf. Irvin Fairfield is at Paris. Megan tutor got the Shirley girls.
Boys: Carlisle is filled as well. Only one on that list that I haven't heard about is Waldron.
Didnt West Side Greers Ferry hire a young man to coach some of the teams? I didnt think Coach Davis was coaching all of them??
Believe the hire was head 7th and assistant to Davis on the other 4.

Boys: All I know is that a friend of mine tried to apply and the AD said they were hiring a guy at the next board meeting. Deer and Genoa have been open a while now, would think they have already hired.

Correct, the Mountain Home school board hired Mitch Huskey tonight as the school's next athletic director. And he will be giving up his duties as head boys basketball coach so that job will be open
Mountain Home is open now with Mitch Huskey becoming the new Athletic Director, but would not surprise me if they filled from within district from one the assistants
Yeah that is possible but by law they have to advertise the position. Even if they do promote a current assistant, their will be a spot open somewhere along the chain

He had some (not as good as he did have) talent come back and they he would only have had the boys this year (Grove already hired Kelsey Smith to coach girls). My guess since he has left is after this year, the school district will combine all three schools into one team for each Jr & Sr High teams.

They have bought some land in Western Grove. I bet that is where the new Sr High campus would be held (just speculation). Plus it is the central most school of the three. The other two campuses are 15-25 min away (depending on traffic).
I don't see the logic in having one Sr High and separate Jr High teams. I may be wrong, but that would be a scheduling nightmare, especially district play.
Smackover's girls basketball Coach Moss has taken a position for Haas Hall Academy.
I dont think th e scheduling would be a nightmare... just have to play some week day games that aren't related to the senior high games...will be a headache making the schedule, but wouldn't be imppssible...I've wondered why they've kept st Joe open for as long as they have anyway
Mountain Home promoted their assistant Grant Greenhaw to be Interim Head Coach, will open the position back up next spring. Quality of applicants was very slim.

Lendal mostly made his name for coaching at Wickes where he spent the most years took the boys to the state championship game, although he actually won a state championship at Van-Cove with the girls team. The last few years he has mainly been a superintendent at Battest, OK and at Cossatot River in SW Arkansas. He retired (for a 2nd time) a year ago, but when Western Grove called he decided to take 1 more run at coaching. He just can't get it out of his system.
BTW, Wendel Cartwright is the new boys coach at Cossatot River and he played for Coach Martin back in the day.
