Coach Mann has a long road ahead of him. Not because we lost to Lamar. But because our girls just really don't know the game of basketball.

They haven't been taught. Our girls program was in such disarray that it will take a few years to build back up.

Agreed, but I think we are already starting to see payoffs in the junior high from what him and his staff are trying to build.

Exactly. We won't get better until the younger girls get up into Sr High. When Mann's system is completely understood on all levels and it's been in place for 3 or 4 years.

Im from Lamar my daughter is a starting Freshman on the Lamar team but did not play last night due to ankle injury, however we play allot of summer ball and i have seen the younger Alma girls in tourneys this summer your Sophomore class has been busy hitting tourneys even went to nationals, and i have  see your younger classes as well.  So I bet the program is headed in the right direction.

Beautiful gym by the way, I mean WOW!

Coach Mann will get the program rolling. He built Russellville into a respectable program in 4 short years with 2 trips to the semifinals and a trip to the quarterfinals. He also won a conference championship with a team that no one gave any chance of winning many games at all. He worked hard building the program from the younger programs up to his high school kids. He is definitely going to have to be patient because he inherited a program at Alma that was a little behind in terms of basketball IQ. If people give him time he will do the same thing at Alma. I played for Coach Mann at Russellville and wouldn't want another man coaching me. He cares about his players and will do anything for them. Alma is very lucky to have him.

Thanks for the kind words, cyclone1313. Very encouraging to hear.

The Airedalettes fall to Webb City tonight in the opening round of the Rogers tournament to move to (0-2) (0-0)

Last night in the Morrilton tournament opener, the Airedalettes lost to Morrilton by 3 in a close fought game by both teams.

I've heard different scores on this one, but it's not really a big deal, Alma's senior high boys beat Searcy last night in the first round of the Morrilton tournament. Good first win for the Airedales.

I believe they play host Morrilton today in the Semifinals. Should be a game that decides seeding for the conference tournament at the end of the year.

It will not have any thing to do with seeding, as the 5A is split between east & west for district tournament.

sevenof400

Building on what Cajun Hog noted, the 5A West is split into east and west halves:

5A West / West: Farmington, Alma, Harrison, Clarksville
5A West / East: Vilonia, Greenbrier, Morrilton, Maumelle

Games within the splits DO count for seeding within that split come conference tournament time.

This could have some weird outcomes though - let's say Greenbrier wins all of it's games EXCEPT the six with Vilonia, Morrilton and Maumelle.  It could be the case a 16-6 Greenbrier team was seeded 4th in the East split of the 5A West.

Clear as mud?

AT

Good stuff, Cajun and seven. It's about as clear as mud, but you guys have gone a long way in making it make more sense for me.

The Airedalettes beat Bryant's girls tonight in the loser's bracket of the Morrilton Tournament. I believe you are only guaranteed 2 games if you lose your first one and 3 if you win your first one. Since the Airedalettes lost their first one, they are done in the tournament after tonight's win.

Great win...another win over a 7A opponent.

AT

I said I thought Alma would play Morrilton in the semifinals of their tournament but I was wrong, the Airedales played Beebe in the semifinals and won 49-47 in overtime. I BELIEVE (key word) that the Airedales will play host Morrilton in the championship game tomorrow night.

AT

Alma Senior Boys beats hosts Morrilton in the finals of the Morrilton tournament to win the championship game.

AT

Alma Senior Girls loses to Fort Smith Southside 44 to 54. Senior boys about to tip off in a few minutes.

AT

Alma senior boys beat Southside last night by 5 after letting a late lead slip away again, but this time they pulled through late in the 4th. Fourth win in a row for the Airedales.

AT

Last night, at Springdale, the senior high Alma teams were swept before Christmas break.

AT

Both teams beat Elkins in the opening round of the Airedale classic last night.

AT

Both teams win in the semi-finals of the Airedale Classic tonight. Finals for both teams tomorrow night.

AT

The girls beat Scranton in the finals of the Airedale Classic while the Alma boys fell to Bentonville West in the finals.

AT

Alma sweeps Greenwood!

I think that may be Alma's senior high girls basketball first win over Greenwood since the 2011 semi-finals? Correct me if I'm wrong.

AT

Alma senior high teams played Providence Academy today in non AAA/non conference action.

The Girls lost while the boys won. The teams played in the old Crabtree gymnasium to commemorate 50 years of Alma basketball.

AT

Sorry, busy weekend. Alma swept Siloam Springs in what I've heard were both great games at Siloam.

The girls won a close one 49-46 while the boys won 54-52 on a half court buzzer beater.

Here's the video for the buzzer beater:

Is this the first time that Alma has been to Harrison since they went to the 6A and back to 5A in any sport?  Too bad we didn't have our new arena ready yet.  Let's welcome the 'Dales one last time at the old Spook House.

Quarter by quarter updates for both games tonight. Girls to start in about 5 minutes.

AT

Girls

Harrison - 12

Alma - 10

end of 1st

Harrison pressed most of the quarter and got some turnovers but Alma started breaking it and Harrison backed off. Harrison rebounding well on the offensive end. Alma didn't hit a field goal until a minute left in the 1st and then got some offense going. Harrison had a 10-2 lead.

AT

Harrison - 28

Alma - 12

Halftime

Alma scored a quick basket to start the quarter off and then Harrison clamped down defensively, leading to their best offense. They caused a lot of turnovers that quarter and were able to score off of them. Alma just not handling the bell well right now. Harrison went on a 14-0 run to end the quarter.

AT

Harrison - 40

Alma - 19

end of 3rd Quarter

Not much to say about that quarter. Harrison got a few more turnovers and got some points off of them. Alma found a little offense towards the end of the quarter.

AT

Senior Girls

Harrison - 53

Alma - 28

FINAL

Harrison played great defense and caused a ton of turnovers. They shot the ball well after the 1st quarter and rebounded superbly. Alma just didn't handle the ball or shoot well. Great game, Lady Goblins.

Nah. We still have a wonderful conference tournament to play.

Let's actually see how it plays out.

AT

Alma splits with Russellville tonight in a makeup game. Alma's girls win while Alma's boys lose, both in close contests until late in the 4th.

AT

Alma splits with Greenwood tonight, with the girls losing and the boys getting off the losing streak and winning on the road.

AT

Last night, the Airedales and Airedalettes split with Russellville on the road. The boys won and the girls lost, switching outcomes from a few nights ago at home against Russellville.
