Lamar girls are 4-1. The beat JA Fair and LR Mills. Both games came after County Line game and before the Mulberry game. Don't remember the scores but they won both by 30+ I believe.

Boys game Booneville beats Hackett 60-51.

In the girls game we were down two players including starting post due to illness or injury and finished with four on the court. Proud of them for not giving up.

By the way how do two of our girls get thrown out of the lane on a rebound and the foul was called on us? Search me!

Think it was kind of foolish for Booneville girls to walk off the court throwing their hands up like they didn't do anything.

I am not saying Hackett wouldn't have won anyway. They have a good team and good luck to them.

We missed too many FT, among other things.

Already put it past us.  On to the next.

At Hackett Classic tonight

Mansfield 33 Booneville 25 girls
Mansfield 62 Booneville 56 boys

We just plain did not play well enough to win either game.  The girls will be glad to welcome their starting post player back for our tournament next week, we struggled without her.

After the football guys are back with Charleston and Paris how does everyone feel about their team

Devin Rice, Kris Graham, and Nate Davidson all look like they will be major contributors. Preston Drewry looks like he could get there too. Paris looks deep. Nehus, Hampton, and Atchison look like they will collectively average about 40 points a game, and they have about five guys capable of chipping in 6+ points. If they can quit killing their ball movement and push the ball, their offense could really start clicking. Defense is better, but still needs a lot of work. Turnovers have been an issue so far. Would have beaten Roland 20+ if they hadn't turned it over so much.

Kitty01

How u feel about charleston now with the football players bigman?

BigMan15

I didn't go to the game so I'm waiting to watch the film then I'll let u know.

#EagleStrong

Paris girls will probably only get better as the season goes on. Beat a pretty good Roland team and played poorly. Peevy only had 8 points and just looked lethargic most of the game. The second quarter of that game was brutal to watch. Paris didn't score, and Roland only scored 2 points. They have a very talented freshman in Kieli Robinson, and Highfield is finally starting to get back into the basketball groove coming out of volleyball season. If they can get one more consistent scoring threat, and more consistency out of Peevy, they'll be very dangerous. I think they're behind Two Rivers right now though. I may change my mind on that by the time they meet, but Paris has a lot of kinks to work out, although the talent is there.

Booneville's program is much better off than it was last year.  Both boys and girls are 4-2.

The boys' losses were to a good Waldron team who then turned around and beat Dardanelle who is always in contention in 4-4A, and to Mansfield, where the Cats simply did not play well.  Both by 6.

The girls' losses were to Hackett and Mansfield this week at Hackett. The Ladycats were without their starting post player who contributes a good number of points and rebounds. Hackett still might have beaten them (they have a very good team) but it would have been much closer, and they likely handle Mansfield.  She sprained an ankle vs. Arkoma but returns next week.

Looking forward to our tournament next week.  Lamar, Cossatot River and Mansfield are the 3A schools coming, along with Waldron and Dover from 4A, Western Yell from 2A and Acorn from 1A.

#EagleStrong

Paris boys up 44-14 at the half against Mulberry in the first round of the Golden Arrow Tournament.

#EagleStrong

Paris 66
Mulberry 35

Third string played the entire second half.

1-Adam-12

In Booneville's tournament, Booneville girls and boys both beat Western Yell.  Closer in both games than last time (45-39 girls and 54-46 boys) and it was ugly, but we will take the W's.

Girls play Cossatot River (65-17 over Waldron) and boys play Waldron (came from 14 down to beat CR 63-62) in semis Thursday.

Lamar and Dover have the early games tomorrow with Mansfield and Acorn playing the late ones.

#EagleStrong

Just some random notes on my Eagles:

Since their opening loss to Dardanelle, the Eagles are allowing only 34 points per game and scoring just over 58 points per game. Last year the Eagles set a school record scoring 69.3 points per game.

18 different players have scored for the Eagles this year. Five different players have recorded double digit performances (Wyatt Nehus, Gage Hampton, Tyler Atchison, Talik Robinson, Kris Graham).

Race Taylor is averaging 5.5 steals per game through four games.

However, they haven't exactly faced stiff competition. In two of those three wins (Johnson County Westside and Mulberry), the starters only played in the first half. Mulberry did enter with some confidence after posting a 12-point second half lead versus Lamar (lost 51-53) and blowing out Danville (without their football players) 50-22, but they were clearly outmatched against Paris and probably will be in most of their games this year. We'll find out more about Paris this week though. Tomorrow they play a very dangerous Ozark team that should finish high in their talented 4A conference this year. On Thursday they play Pea Ridge in the semifinals of the Lavaca Tournament. If they win that game they will be in the championship on Saturday, likely against County Line. Clearly not the same level of competition as what Charleston is dealing with in Van Buren this week, but a definite step up from their last three opponents. Next week they travel to Roland and have a home game against County Line. Then they'll close their nonconference schedule with the Bank of the Ozarks Tournament that will feature a couple of quality 4A teams in Ozark and Huntsville.

In the Booneville tournament tonight

Girls--Lamar rallies from 9 down to beat Dover, 46-41.  The Lady Warriors play Acorn in a semifinal game Thursday.
Boys--Lamar drops a decision to Dover 42-37.  The Warriors take on Acorn in a consolation game tomorrow.

The semifinals are set for Thursday:

4:00 Lamar vs. Acorn girls
5:30 Dover vs. Mansfield boys
7:00 Booneville vs. Cossatot River girls
8:30 Booneville vs. Waldron boys

Charleston vs Southside tonight at VB. Charleston will be without coach Ross for the second game. Will be interesting to see how we do against another 7A school.

Will Ross not be there because of his ejection last night?

I would really like to ask BJ what happened but I'm sure he has been asked so many times I won't have him repeat it again. As close as I was to it I still don't know.

I've seen that particular official on several occasions and have always felt he was a very good one. The entire event just seems to be out of character for both him and BJ.

The young man from VB that has commented to Missouri should feel right at home there in the gym with the Antlers. For those who don't know what the Antlers are; they are the most obnoxious, foul mouthed, insulting, and unsupervised, student section in college basketball.

See: Beastie Boys-Sabotage it will pretty much sum it up. Randy Lloyd put a hit out on our coach. We were too physical for his boys and his star SEC player. Had to stop it before it started.

Kern started.  He threw down a couple of jams, but all in all he seemed a little rusty.  Not sure what other football players joined/will join.  The defense had trouble stopping Dover's Roby, especially when it counted late.

Lamar is playing again tonight so I'll have a better idea then.

Well, a lot of teams will struggle to stop Roby. Kid went off for 50+ against Alpena last year.

So, I've been told that the AHSAA does not recognize the Charleston/Pottsville game as a benefit game, so it does technically count against their record. However, Charleston treated it like a benefit game, substituting players they wouldn't normally, so I've placed an asterisk next to the game on the main post. Take it with a hefty grain of salt.

WPWells

No problem. It's non-con so it's not like it matters a whole lot

I'm uneasy counting the loss, because even with the asterisk I know some people will try to count it against them. Apparently Charleston tried to get it changed to a benefit game, but the officials were paid for calling the game which disqualifies it from benefit game status according to the AHSAA. Just a technicality. But, like you said, it's a non con. No one will remember what happened in November when January and February roll around. Plus I seem to recall Charleston getting off to a slow start last year too, relying less on football players, and they ended up just fine. State semifinalist. You'd be foolish to think a slow start this year would mean anything different.

Him and siebenmorgan literally played 2 on 5 on offense for Scranton last year....30 wasn't odd for either one or both to put up...
