When the Hogs were dominating on the hardwood they ruled the roost in the recruiting of the Memphis area.  Much of this was done by Mike Anderson.

How important is this area for Arkansas basketball and can Mike pull the talent out of there again?

Uncle Ivan

Define "lock up", at least applied to today's new environment.  CBB has changed.

Just in general, have a real presence in Memphis.  Arkansas got a load of good players out of their in past seasons just wondering if it is as important an area as it once was.

Mike Anderson was playing ball in the hyper today. Whatever else he's a great guy and red blooded razorback.

While this has happened in the past, the Memphis ISD and other School Districts like Cordova, are having a very hard time academically.   Most of the big name Memphis recruits are ticking academic/legal time bombs.  The big reason why Cal was so dominant there was that he ignored these glaring issues.  Recruiting Memphis kids is a 50/50 proposition for whether or not they will play or not.

Lock up your good kids in arkansas and steal some big prospects.  Let your good arkansas boys grow.  Do things the Missouri Valley Conference way, and you will have sustained success, none of this one and done UK/Duke/UNC stuff.  We aren't there yet, and those people would just be a flash pan of trouble and not lead to long term success.

When we are fully reestablished we can drop time and money in nonquals and one and dones, for now, build something good in house.

Those schools have a history of long term success and have the power to take on one and doners (aka people that may only stay for one year because of grades or the NBA).  Because there are so many people ready to replace such people, when those kids flake out, there is really no damage to their programs.

You have to build up to that point.  You don't build up to that point by taking on a bunch of academic dangers/legal dangers/one and doners.  Once we are a top tier team we can get away with that like UNC/Duke/UK, but until then, we have to play it smart.  Get smart, solid in state players, steal a couple big names, and develop, develop, develop!

I gotcha, but am still on the fence about the one and done's.  Go Hogs!  A win is a win!

USC takes on a bunch of one and dones.  Butler does not.  Who has been consistently better in the last 5-10 years?

If you don't have steeped tradition and a pattern of excellence, these one and done guys can kill you.

See Marbury, Stephon for a really good example of this.

However, I don't see UNC and Duke doing the one and done to the extent they should be lumped in with UK.....

Where did you get the idea Cordova is an independent district? Even worse, where did you get the idea Calipari even recruited locally? He ignored the Memphis schools like the plague.

Can Mike lock up anywhere should be the question? The team has looked incredibly bad toward the end of the year. Recruiting has to be on his mind.
