Ok, I got a little bored watching the Astros getting hosed out of a home game in Milwaukee against the Cubs so I did a little number crunching.  Saw in another thread a reference to the 2003 team's defensive efforts.  Here are the last 10 years.  (By the way Zambrano (spl?) has a no-hitter thru 8)

Although the Bears lost to Carolina (9-14), Kevin Payne had six solo tackles, an assist, and participated in an interception (he deflected the pass and a teammate caught it).

If only the 03 team and the 99 team could play.

That would be a good one.

Remember, the '99 team gave up 70 of their 126 points allowed all year in one game to eventual state champion and pass happy Malzhan's (spl) Shiloh Christian.  Their average points allowed per game going into that game was only 5.09.  Take the 64 they scored against SC out of the mix and their points scored per game prior to the SC game was still 52.82.

4.4-40

It would come down to two things.  Could 03s defense slow down Mr Godfrey, and could 03's O-line open some holes to run through.

Didn't see many of the '99 games.  Did watch most of the '03 games.  It was amazing watching that group dominate that year.  Was fun going to WMS and realizing after the 1st quarter the Barton game was going to be just like almost all the games that year.  The Rison semi-final game was the closest game that year.  Lafayette County put up a good fight too.  The McKinnon to McKinnon slant pass did come in handy in '03.   Did the '99 team have any pass game to speak of?

The 99 team didn't have to pass.  Marcus Godfrey, Jamario Easter, Kevin Payne, Lorenzo Lee, Corey Hurst, Lamon Creer, all in the backfield behind the biggest most dominating offensive line to come through JC.  Brandon Bovee and Robert Wages were each in the 6'-6'2" 300lb range, then you had Joel Barton and Mario Carter that were 250 plus.  The only small guy on the line was Ryan Hanry at center.  That 99 O-Line vs 03 or 08 D-Line would be fun to watch.  If the 99 O-Line had to face Devin Ball and Grantel Kennedy at the ends, and Big Baby at nose, I'm giving the advantage to the 08 D-Line.  If Grantel is at safety and Devin is at LB, advantage goes to O-Line.  No way on Gods green Earth that Ryan Hanry blocks Big Baby without the help of his guards.  If the tackles have to try to match the speed and power of Kennedy and Ball one on one, I think the defense wins.  Grantel and Devin would neutralize the sweep with Marcus by stretching it out to the sidelines, and Big Baby shuts down the inside running lanes.

You'll need to gather all those old cronies together and challenge the Razorbacks to a scrimmage game.  ::)

Ryan Hanry at center.

Actually it was the Brown (Cody?) kid who played center. Ryan played defensive end and was a snapper.

If you picked just right, it might be a pretty good game.  One of those "old cronies" is a starting safety for the Chicago Bears.

Thanks footballfan, I knew I would mess something up and forget someone.  Cody Brown wasn't a small guy by any stretch.  What a line to run behind.

The family has kind of kept it quiet. He has been sick since the end of March. Mr. Jeff Thurlkill is the one that howls like a wolf. If you know Mr. Jeff you would know that he is the kids favorite. He looks a lot like Santa Clause the overalls and everything and on top of that the kids often ask him to teach them how to howl. THis season there has been NO howling. Jacob Thurlkill the 16 year old Junior has took this very well. He doesn't want it to effect anything. He still gives his 150%. HE is just really small but he has one of the biggest hearts I have ever seen. I recall one of the Coachs commenting that, "He will do anything you ask him to do.". HE also has a sister Amanda who is a senior. These two dont like the attention or change from this. They havent had a "normal" life in a while. They just try to go about their business like they should. Out of a crowd, you would never pick Amanda or Jacob out as children with any saddness in their lives. These two are very down to earth happy go lucky kids. From what I have seen, they are great kids with good heads on their shoulders. Its just a shame that they have to go through this being so young.

This is Jacob and Amanda Thurlkill on Homecoming. Sadly, their Daddy Jeff Thurlkill wasn't able to walk her. Jacob walked his older sister in his football uniform before the game began. (She couldn't choose between her 2 grandfathers or her 2 uncles.) Jacob respresented their father. The sight was tear jerking yet powerful. They both had brave and happy faces on. Pray for their family!!!

BIG NEWS FOR JC!  Byran Jones has been named a member of the Rivals 250 for 2010.  It is a list of the top 250 high school football players in the Nation.  Only three kids from Arkansas made the list, with Micheal Dyer and Claude Johnson being the others.  VERY SELDOM do kids from small schools in Arkansas make the list.

No.

Good answer D1 but hope you don't mind me elaborating.

All students have always been counted for athletic classification.

There is both a Junction City, Louisiana and a Junction City, Arkansas.  Stateline Road divides the two at the one stop light both towns share.  The post office and school are in Arkansas.  The fire department is in Louisiana.  There is no school in Junction City, Louisiana so there is no picking or choosing or recruiting.

Half the school district would be pretty standard.  If you drew a circle around the school with an 8-9 mile radius you'd roughly have the district. The north half of the circle is in Arkansas and those kids are obviously in the district and attend JC.

Where it gets odd is that the southwest quarter of that circle is in Claiborne Parish and those kids go to JC.  Their nearest Louisiana school in Claiborne Parish is in Summerfield about 10-12 miles from that stop light I mentioned.  Claiborne Parish has decided it's in those kids' best interest (and the Parish's best interest) to allow the kids to go to JC.  I believe Claiborne Parish provides some buses and pays the salaries of some of the JC teachers.

The kids in the southeast quarter of that circle are in Union Parish.  Even though some of those kids are less than 12 blocks or so from the JC school, Union Parish does not allow them to attend JC.  These kids have to go 10-12 miles or more down the road to Louisiana schools in Union Parish.

Union Parish did at one time allow their kids to go to JC but that changed over 10 years ago when a funding issue came up.  The withdrawal of the Union Parish kids is the primary reason JC stayed in the lowest football classification when the schools they used to play with like Fordyce, Nashville, Prescott, etc. went to the larger class.

Here's an El Dorado New Times article that details JC's student base:  CLICK HERE

Sorry to be so long winded but someone seems to ask this type question every year.  JC is one of the most scrutinized public schools in the entire state.  The administration has done everthing needed to document the enrollment status of their kids and the school should have one of the cleanest programs in the country.

Dragon baseball  has certainly slipped into mediocrity and the "Powers That be" know it.  It is a shame when your best baseball players will not go out for the team.  I also think there may be some what of a effort to cover this up. I have noticed all year that the Dragon record was mentioned maybe twice in all the articles in the El Dorado paper. At the same time, it seemed every other school mentioned in the paper had its record listed. Then when JC upset two top seeds in the playoffs, mysteriously the paper lists their record in those articles. Coincidence or what? I don't know.
Word is from a friend of mine that Hammett plays favorites, and if he didn't their record would have been a lot better. I have also been told the same statement about some good ball players didn't come out for the team because of this. On a football note, If Carpenter would implement a good passing game, them boys down there would look like a bunch of pimps with all those rings on their fingers.

As far as Hammett, Yeah right.  ::)

As far as JC passing, the problem is not passing when your not forced.  The problem lies with being proficient  when you have to pass. I don't care how good you run the ball, there are times when your gonna have to pass or punt the ball. The lack of a decent passing game has hurt the Dragons in the last several playoff losses.
