Third time was the charm, could have easily been JHS' third consecutive state championship. Congrats to Wes Swift and the Canes, great job.

Well done.  You can legitimately lay claim to best in the state this year.

Not sure we'll get that, but we'll take the championship. I loved the games against NLR, PV, Benton, this year, and Hall in the previous years. Playing great competition makes you better. We went down to Fort Worth minus a starter after Christmas, and came back a ball team.

Did ASU offer Ross? If they didn't they missed that one

Yes, both they and UALR did. I don't know how hard they recruited him, Mike Anderson has been in Don Riggs gym more times than John Brady has.

Outstanding photo in the statewide paper today of the team about to get their trophy.

You can see our AD lurking in the background, making sure no one misbehaves.

I saw Jonesboro in person three times this year, both Marion games and their first-round tournament game.

They were always a great-looking team, but I told anyone who would listen after they blew Marion out at The Arena in late January that they were the best I had seen all year.

For starters, that night they came into Marion down two starters and Marion had their full deck. The Patriots were at home and looking for a signature win.

Everything was set up for Marion to beat Jonesboro and set up a reality where each team was 5-2 in conference play at that point.

Instead, Kahron Ross did his thing and Jonesboro beat Marion by 14 on their home floor.

Then they beat NLR and laid waste to everyone in 6A, including a Parkview team that everyone thought was superior.

I know that we don't have the Overall Tournament anymore, but that's a real shame this year because I would pay $20 to watch Jonesboro and NLR go to war one final time.

The Hurricane will have to settle for my seal of approval, but they're the best team I saw all year.

Thanks, Coach Swift does a great job of getting guys to buy into their roles, that's the key to JHS success. Of course, it hasn't hurt to have one of the better PG's for four years.

Yep, youngest was in a tennis tournament and literally, flew into and out of HS.

Those were kind words Blue Devil. I was curious about the Doss kid. Do you know who he will play for this summer ?  He was one of the most talented ninth graders, in this part of the state.

I haven't heard! I'm wondering if he'll end up with Davie, Dontae Garrett and that crew. They finished second last summer.

Doss is a great-looking kid. I suspect he'll have a big impact on the varsity next year as a sophomore.

Dragon77

He could have been a contributor for the Sr. squad, this year. My kid played for MacArthur, so I watched him in the regular season, and district tournament. Doss is a future college ball player.

In the Regional Tournament, Marion built a seven point lead against Siloam Springs, and then began slowing the tempo on offense. That was curious, but hey, I am not a coach.

Yep, when you have better athletes from 1-15, why hold it for a brick 3 pointer? Hey, they couldn't break JHS' 3/4 trap, scored like 15 pts in 3 quarters.

Talent hasn't been the problem at Marion.

This was an especially crazy year as well.

Marion had a lot of off-the-court issues and it affected their play on the floor, IMHO.

Remember, the Patriots started 12-1 and 3-0 in 7A/6A East play and absolutely fell apart down the stretch.

Clay has had a lot of success here and I still believe he's the man for the job, but it'll be interesting to see if the same sort of issues pop up with Marion next year.

That happened all year long.

We were up 15-10 at the end of the first quarter and was down seven headed to the fourth quarter I believe.

I hope the kids are issue, and conflict free, next year.

Same. They were a lot of fun to watch when they were playing for each other in November, December and half of January. After that point it got hard to stomach.
