40th anniversary of the CBS Radio Mystery Theatre today

Probably no one remembers this, but this show covered (amazingly) abortion, homosexuality, ISLAMIC terrorism, communism, witchcraft, and Christianity from a largely conservative point of view...out of New York City to boot, when it was alive and kicking between 1974 - 1982.  No matter what one thought of the series, it's a tragedy today's NYC/Hollywood "mainstream" types wouldn't dare cover some of this material today, at least not in the way the CBS RMT did so.

They also covered classic writers as Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Conan Doyle, etc., including O Henry (remembering the Razorbacks' head cheerleader, journalism side, Orville Henry, in his day) and had some shows that were (in the script) based in Arkansas like Henry's "Jimmy Valentine's Gamble".
