What position on the floor do you think requires the most leadership qualities in order for your team to be successful?

On offense the point guard is critical - defense depends on the set.

SirSwish

Sorry...yes....offense. ;D

Point guard. If you don't got a good playmaking PG, then you won't win very much

So, you guys don't think it takes a MAN to be in the middle? Usually the MAN of the group is the leader isn't he/she? :o

JP

In high school, the MAN can be any position on the floor.  I agree with the others that on offense it makes sense for it to be the point guard.  Just like a quarterback in football, the point guard handles the ball the most and initiates most of the plays.  Its hard to beat a good team that has a smart point guard.  This don't mean that he/she scores the most points, gets the most rebounds, or leads in any other stats.
Not all point guards will be great leaders, but the ones that are make a team dangerous.

Your "Go to guy" isn't necessarily always a leader.  Just means he can get you a bucket when you need it.  Your PG should always be the leader, ideally.  Just my opinion. On and off the floor.

PG.. A big man can't do nothing with it if he don't have a guard to get him the ball. PG is the most vital position

A good PG Is a play maker, can break the defense down and find open players for open looks, an effective pg can make your offense run smooth.

What are some things you think that make a point guard a leader of a team?

Silky Johnson

The point guard usually keeps his team level headed and is the mouth piece of the team. Being able to handle the ball and bringing it up the floor are crucial. They need to be good defenders and have to get the team into sets. It doesn't hurt when they can put it through the hoop either.

Point guard is a good leader when he/she is an extension of the coach on the floor, as well as setting positive example on the practice floor,in the lockerroom, and in the classroom.
